Cordoba Information
Cordoba is the tenth largest city in Spain and is situated some 120 kilometres north west of Granada and 140 kilometres east of Sevilla, in the region of Andalucia. The history of the city dates back to Roman times, when, as it is at the highest navigable point of the river Guadalquivir, it was an important port. In 711 it was conquered by the Moors who established the Caliphate of Cordoba and started to build the famous Mezquita Mosque. The Spanish regained the city in 1236 and were so impressed with the Mezquita that they built their cathedral inside the old building.
