The town consists of white houses in an Ibizan style and certain urban rules regarding new buildings have ensured that the style is strictly adhered to. The town has few, if any, high rise buildings. The centre of the town is almost all pedestrianised and has numerous bars, restaurants, cafes and shops. Cala d'Or could be described as a more up-market resort in Mallorca as it a popular marina with 380 moorings that attracts those keen on yachting.
Evening entertainment is generally hotel based, although the resort does have a small number of lively bars and discos centred around the pedestrian zone.
