The Bars

"Quick Review"

Just got back from a short break and enjoyed most of the bars there. Here's my quick review on these: 'Rovers' has gone downhill. Geordy has left, Ronnie says he's gone to another resort and I think the good will in the place has gone. They never stop moaning about the other bars and wouldn't even take the tomatoes of my breakfast, hence I didn't use the place any more.
I used the 'Black Bull' for my drinks and the 'Legends' bar for my food. Both gave a warm welcome and don't seem to get involved in the back biting and name calling elsewhere in the resort.
My advice would be not to go straight into the first bar, try the others.

'Legends' is great. Gary and Sandra are the nicest people you can ever meet and the service is great. I have been to Malgrat five years in a row now and 'Legends' is the only bar I visit. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Used 'Legends' after finding it after trying a few of the other bars. Guy is from Manchester and is a good laugh. Service and food better than most. Food cooked as ordered so slight delay in getting the food to you but it is really hot when it arrives. Sunday lunch is to die for, but be careful if too much food overbears you as they serve big portions. It's in the middle of the bars so you may overlook it and pass by, but don't, as it will be your loss. Big portions and big measures on the drinks. They are cheap too. I was drinking a pint of vodka energy drink at only three euros - that's about £2.40 - brilliant.

All Man United fans heading for the united Barca game head for 'Legends'. The guy who owns it is a K stand season ticket holder who is trying to arrange buses to the match. It's also the best place to eat and the drinks are plentiful and cheap.
There are a few other English bars in the street but they are not real United fans. One is a Celtic bar and the other is run by a Leicester fan who is OK. Also in the street there's a bar called 'Cantonas' run by two Barca fans who have an interest in all things Cantona and it is worth a pop in.

After two days of wandering round Malgrat trying a few of the other English run bars, we found 'Legends'. We didn't know if it was because it was nearing the end of the season but in all the other places the staff seemed really down in the dumps and it was refreshing to see so many friendly faces.
Gary and Sandra are such great hosts. They work their backsides off but they've always got a smile on their face! Ben's a sweet kid and we can't leave out Sian and the other staff behind the scenes.
If you can handle the northern humour and the jibes and if you can give it and take it you'll get on well.
Highly recommended and we're even looking to go back just to see these guys. They made our holiday a laugh a minute!
Oh and try the 15 euro steak - I'll put money on you not finishing it.

After trying a couple of bars and restaurants, we finally stumbled on this little gem of a bar - fantastic! The menu was great for us and the kids too, with loads of vegetarian stuff choice as well as the traditional English fare.
But what made the place 'legendary' was the staff, in particular the boss Gary, (even if he's a Man U supporter). He's a great guy and impeccable host! Nothing was too much trouble and we felt so at home that we found ourselves returning there most evenings throughout our stay. The kids wouldn't let us go anywhere else!
I would recommend anyone on their first visit to Malgrat to go to 'Legends' first. You will be like us and want to come back.

Great fun bar, lots to eat. We found 'Trotter's' one of the best bars to eat and drink with no loud music or people grabbing you some other bars.
As for the 'Ulrika' bar - scandal! Serves three quarters of a pint, not a pint at all. 'Legends' not bad, 'Rovers' not good. Trust 'Trotter's'

We have just returned from a short break in Malgrat. We found the 'Legends' bar after trying a couple of others and returned there every day. I only wish we had read these reviews first and we would have gone there sooner.
The hosts, Gary and Sandra, are quite simply the best! Sandra even went and organised the local supermarket to save me a copy of my morning paper as it sold out before I could get there!
The food is superb. It is quickly served, well cooked and the portions are too big! The drinks are also very good and reasonably priced.
The atmosphere in the bar is great. I would thoroughly recommend 'Legends' bar to anyone.

What a great pub. Just had a week here and found the 'Rovers' Return' on the second night. What a great set of lads - Tommo, Ronnie and Al and all the kitchen staff also. They gave us (a family of four) the best British welcome ever. My kids asked to return night after night, which is exactly what we did. This bar is the best, the food is great (well worth booking Sunday lunch), the beer is great and the atmosphere is fantastic. It is located in the street opposite the Amarigua Hotel. A good night to be had by all and a very big welcome to everyone who walks through the door.

This is a fantastic place to visit. Very clean and smart, a great couple and the food and drinks were top! The steaks were to die for (massive) and the prices were very good too. I am so glad we visited. We were there for two weeks full board and were in this bar most of the time. Our hotel was average and the food was ok, but we were glad to spend our money there. We were made very welcome and we had a lot of fun. Thanks again, guys and we will see you next year hopefully. Good luck!

This bar is great. It's lively yet family based. One warning, you are forced to do the raffle which means you may be asked to do the sack which is where you have to swap clothes with the opposite sex. Also lads may have the wax!
Besides that, the staff are friendly and fun and you are bound to meet friends there. We met two great girls who go there every year. Once you go there you would definitely want to go again. It not only caters for families but for adults and groups of friends. 10/10 definitely.

In 2005, I visited Malgrat twice – in May and October. In May, I had the experience of visiting 'The Rover's Return' bar - what a place I found it to be. It was brilliant. I used to visit in the morning where I usually ate an 'Eddy Yates' breakfast. In the evenings I returned for a full night's entertainment with Phil (Geordy), Tomo and Rob who had every one cracking up with laughter with the antics they acted out. Almost every night there is Sky sports on the big screen with all the big matches being played etc.
In October I returned and as soon as I entered the bar, all three - Rob, Tomo and Phil remembered me and made me truly welcome again. Everything was the same as it was in May.
The following year, 2006, I returned again in May. Everything was the same on the outside but owing to the Spanish authorities, one or two new laws had been implemented to hotels and bars etc. One rule in the 'Rover's' was the fact that they could not play cash bingo anymore and the doors of the bar had to be closed at midnightish. The pumps inside still flowing though, until what ever hour the management thought was time.
But as I have said, the welcome and the entertainment was second to none again and I will be going back to Malgrat again this May and you can rest assured that I will be spending most of my evenings in the 'Rover's Return' bar. Bravo, bravo to the boys at the bar and will see you all soon. So if any of you holiday makers here in the UK are considering a holiday or short break in Malgrat, you will not be disappointed if you were to visit 'The Rover's Return'.

Well, we went to Malgrat de Mar for a stag do. After working round the resort, we walked in to 'Legends' for a couple of beers like you do and we never looked back. What a fantastic time we (the lads) had. We were made so welcome it was hard to go else where. The staff where fantastic.
What topped it off us was the food. Its not often you can find somewhere you can have a few beers in the sun and have great food. Legends being a family run English bar do know how to serve a very good Sunday dinner. I, no we, were on holiday but a touch of home cooked food was great. Thanks to Gary, Sandra and the lads for a brill time. See you all again soon.

We have just retuned from an all inclusive holiday but we couldn't eat at our hotel so we went looking for some where to eat. We found the Robin Hood and didn't look anymore. They are a friendly bunch and the food was great. The half chicken and chips was a favourite but everything we had was lovely. The meals were very reasonably priced and you got plenty. I would highly recommend it - well done, Robin Hood. The staff are friendly, even if a bit mad. Entertainment is good – try it for yourself. Real value for money.

This venue offered a friendly and welcome entry. There were no age limits. The users behaved outstandingly. There was little smoking and drinking on the dance floor. The music was well up to date with a good variety of R&B, reggae, Spanish and Latino mixes. You could dance all night if you didn't get dehydrated. Lovely place - can't wait to go back.
