Santa Ponsa Information
Santa Ponsa (Santa Ponca) is situated on the south west coast of Mallorca, 21 kilometres south west of Palma, 31 kilometres from the airport and five kilometres south west of Magaluf. This is a densely populated resort that is generally family orientated but which has many bars and late night venues, as well as some discos and clubs, although it is not as lively as the neighbouring resorts of Palma Nova and Magaluf. It is especially popular with both Irish and Scottish visitors and there are a number of both Irish and Scottish themed bars and restaurants in the town.

Santa Ponsa beach is quite large and in recent years it has been extended with imported sand to accommodate an increasing number of visitors to the resort. Nevertheless, in high season it can still become very crowded. There is a smaller secondary beach of Calo d'En Pellicer that is set in its own sheltered cove and is about 15 minutes walk away.

Review title: "Santa Ponsa?"
Travel date: September 2009
I was recommended Santa Ponsa for a week and I felt like I was in mini Ireland with the sun. There was a lot good about it and a lot bad too. The weather was perfect all week and the beach was nice. However, the resort was very quiet, recession maybe but it was very quiet and in chatting to the locals they said it had been quiet all year. A lot of the bars are for sale there so that shows how bad it was. The prices in the restaurants and bars fluctuate so much too. Some of the best bars were cheap and some of the worst bars were expensive. Work that out?

The 'Dubliner' bar was extremely expensive and unfriendly and we ate there one night too and found it to be basic for the price and not very good. Across the road in 'Tony's Pizzeria', we had three lovely nights - nice food and nice friendly service and cheaper than the 'Dubliner'. Go down to the beach bars for atmosphere. 'Daniel's Corner Bar', 'Zanzibar', 'Sean's Place' and 'The Shamrock' are all top spots for craic. With the Celtic supporters converging on the resort in May, it might give the place the much needed boost it needs.

Review title: "Don't Be Fooled By Cheap Drink And Food Deals"
Travel date: August 2009
Have been to Santa Ponsa several times now and each year it's getting more and more expensive without any of the businesses reinvesting in modern culture and in turn the resort is getting less and less tourists with last year being so so quiet. Places on the main strip vary so much in price for the same drinks and food that its hard to comprehend why. For example the 'Dubliner' bar which has been there for years sees fit to serve awful food and poor service but charges way more than anyone else? Up the road from this in 'Made in Italy', you get fresh produce for half the price? Why? Other bars like 'Simplys' and 'Hotshots' offer cheap drinks at the steps but when you actually ask for them they are cheap sickly Spanish versions of real alcoholic beverages.

Aside from this, the resort has nearly a guaranteed heat factor, friendly atmosphere in most places and something for everyone. Someone just needs to get together and decide on placating tourists like us and charge reasonable prices and it could all become a busy resort again.

Travel date: August 2004
We found Santa Ponsa 'ticked all the boxes', in the respect that it had a beautiful beach, lots of sun, a wide variety of nightlife, we could always find a sun lounger, it offered traditional Spanish cuisine for an enjoyable evening out and a true English fry-up for the morning after. We also discovered that there was little money needed for drinks, as almost every bar or club will offer you one free drink if you take a leaflet from one of the (lovely and non-pushy) people stationed out outside. This therefore enabled us to sample almost every venue within our stay and spend practically no money! Be wary, however, that a couple of places offering 'free drinks' actually require you to by several before you get one free.

Travel date: September 2003
This is the best holiday we have had. We first visited Santa Ponsa in 1994 when our children were 12 and 13. We have been back four times since with and without them. We went two years ago with friends who didn't rate Majorca but Santa Ponsa is now their favourite place too.

Don't miss going to ?Steps' if you are in your 40s or 50s or 60s. It's such a good night. The Argentinian restaurant is not to be missed. It's up a side street (don't know its name) Not expensive but soooo good.

The Rey Don Jaime is a good hotel to stay at but if you prefer self catering try the Jutlandia Apartments. Not so convenient as the hotel but still good accommodation. Don't think you will be disappointed.

We went to 'Crocadillos' for a meal on our anniversary and it was absolutely fantastic! The service was efficient and friendly, the food was well tasty and lots of it for a great price. We liked it that much we went back before we went home! We totally recommend you go but in the summer months we were told it is packed out and people have to wait for a table, it's that good!

If you happen to be rambling in the town of Santa Ponsa with you and your family peckish for a bite to eat, why not try a meal in the 'South Wind' cafeteria located in the main street. It is very reasonably priced and the food is fresh and is served very promptly. It is family run and they serve a wide range of dishes - my own favourite is peppered steak with jacket potato, mushrooms, fried onions and salad, but then again choose your own. Bet you the kids will want to go back!

An awful place, unfriendly and full of a collection of dirty underwear hanging from the ceiling - someone's idea of a joke but its so tacky and distasteful. They have drink offers on boards outside but when you go in, it's only local brew that's on offer and it's cheap nasty booze. Proper drink is very expensive and it's a shame to say but it reflects a rip off image.

Santa Ponsa is a fabulous resort and it's as good for families as it is for party people. The beach is beautiful and well maintained, as is the town. There are many restaurants and bars to choose from but be careful for prices, some are are a rip off.

Good restaurants were 'Crocs', 'Made in Italy' and 'Rafters'. Good bars were the 'Shamrock', 'Sean's Place', 'Kms', 'Funkys' and 'Rehab'.

Bad restaurants and bars were the 'Dubliner', 'Hells Bar' and 'Simplys'.

The shows were the best we've ever seen in Santa Ponsa and the music was brilliant. If you visit Santa Ponsa, you must go to 'Hill 16'.

Oh dear, what has happened to the 'Duke Of York'. We ate here in the summer and the food was great - real home made soups, great steak pies, with fresh pastry, big steaks with creamy sauces and lovely pasta. All big portions. ten out of ten.

But now, arghh! The soup - straight from a packet - disgusting. Can't they be bothered to make soup? The pies - (no steak in them) were microwaved (tough and dry), the steaks have shrunk and no nice creamy sauces and the pasta was bland beyond belief. As for the coffee (dishwater) - avoid it. What a shame. This place used to be great.

The glass bottom boat trip is a lovely way to relax whilst getting a sun tan at the same time and keeping the kids happy. We did the two hour trip but you can do a five hour trip with food and drink included. The staff on the boats are really friendly and tell you all about the island and different attractions. Recommend to all.
