Kas Information
The town of Kas is situated some 168 kilometres west of Antalya on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Founded by the Lycians, Kas was originally known as Habesos, and inhabited mainly by Greek people. Following the Greco-Turkish war the Greek population returned to Greece, leaving the town with many old Greek buildings. Originally dependant on agriculture, since the 1990s the tourist industry has boomed with visitors mainly from the UK and Germany. Kas has a number of beaches and is served by a growing number of tourist facilities such as bars and restaurants. The town is one of the leading diving centres in Turkey with a diving school, and many other diving related resources.
