"Get Around "

Best thing to do is to visit other places around. So easy as the local buses are easy to use and regular. Visit Mogan on the bus - the ride is very scary but brill, over the hills, and Mogan is beautiful. It's only just over two euros each way for two persons on the bus.
Go to Las Palmas. The city is worth it, 6.45 euros each way for two persons. Last direct bus back is 8.15 but you can get one that goes through other places on the way back to Puerto Rico about 11.00 p.m.
Playa del Ingles is about 40 minutes on the bus and is the biggest resort on Gran Canaria. Worth visiting as loads of areas to go to. Yumbo area is good. Last bus is outside at 11.48 p.m.
In Puerto Rico not a lot to go to after two or three nights, but recommend the 'Bora Bora' bar on the upstairs floor of main shopping centre and the Irish bar on the corner. It serves good food. There is a big bar/live music place at the back of Mcdonalds that has different acts each night of week but repeats each one on a weekly basis. Good though, great Elvis and Bob Marley acts, and a good soul duo as well.

My partner and I are flying out to Puerto Rico in two weeks time. We booked the holiday up six months ago and were told some really dodgy comments by people. We are glad that we found this site as it had put the record straight!
We were told that we would be mugged, stolen from and left in the lurch. But obviously looking at these reviews, that's not the case. I've never been abroad before as I'm too scared of flying! But my partner has been many times and I'm now looking forward to our holiday thanks to all of your reviews! So thanks everyone, it's been a huge relief!

I went to Puerto Rico last September and I am planning on going again in October 2008. I thought it was a fantastic holiday and I would recomend it to everyone.
Puerto Rico is a family orientated place and there are things to do for everyone. The night life was brilliant and if you have children, like me, then you can take them to a quieter part in the centre. There's a bar called 'Hooters' that you can sit outside and have cocktails and it isn't disturbed by teenagers. I honestly thought it was amazing and the whole place has a ten out of ten from me!

First time I have been to Puerto Rico and it was OK, only OK. In the day and night the people that are trying to get you into a bar or restaurant was really bad, worst I have ever seen and I go away twice a year. They hound you in packs and I can say that because I sat at the bar in Bora Bora with my wife and when this family said no thanks to one girl she pointed at two lads who then moved in, followed by two girls. I mean the woman had a baby about one year old . They are not going to sit in a bar with booming music, yes?
During the day the touts are blocking the beach so you have to get past them. I would not go back, sorry and I do mean it. It's a nice resort ruined by hasslers.

I love Puerto Rico. It is so good. I am going to live over there in July. It is absolutely wicked. Only recommended for young people though and families, not the elderly, as there are lots of loud bars and hills. Everything is so cheap over there and a great holiday overall. I have been about 15 times and now I going to live there!

Gran Canaria is the best place on earth. The sun shines until about 8 o'clock. The people are very nice and helpful. The drink and food is cheap and great. The hotels and apartments are good. Everything is good, even the water park. I am going back this year and I can't wait. I love it.

Puerto Rico is certainly not a hell hole, its the only resort I've ever gone back to and I've been to many! I love the white buildings lining the valley. If you look around, you will find some excellent restaurants.
The only thing I would point out is that the place is much better between November and April as you don't get all the lager louts.
You should take the ferry to Puerto Mogan. Its a nice little village just 30 minutes up the coast and you will see dolphins on the way if you are lucky. Amadores beach is the best in the whole of the Canaries, lovely white sand and blue sea. Of all the resorts in Gran Canaria, this is the prettiest in my opinion. I miss it like crazy! I'll be going back one day.

Depressing place. Full of bars, clubs and ghastly restaurants offering mainly greasy food and costly drinks, all situated in the shopping centre. White apartments litter every inch of the town and the surrounding mountains. You need rose-tinted glasses to see ANY resemblance of a tropical island in Puerto Rico.

"A Great Holiday"

Me and my boyfriend were looking for a relaxing holiday, and that is what we got! The food was great, drinks were quite cheap, the only problem was that our apartment was at the top of the hill, but taxis were cheap and walking down it wasn't too bad either. We found the beach in Puerto Rico a bit busy, so we got a taxi to the Amerdores beach where everything was a bit more relaxed. There are a lot of mountains and hills but what would you expect form a volcanic island. The only bad part of the holiday was coming home!!!!

"Reply to Reviewer (Hell Hole On Earth)"

This is a reply to the reviewer who found Puerto Rico a 'hell hole on earth'. There are marinas and beaches in and close to Puerto Rico, with lots of activities such as the dolphin searches, scuba diving, snorkelling, sport fishing, pedaloes, jet skis, parascending and lots more, the beautiful Puerto Rico and Amadores beaches, tennis, water parks, putting greens, to mention a few. All the land excursions, safaris, mountain trips - too many to mention.
This is a volcanic island in the canaries, where you are bound to find black volcanic mountains. The local beer is 90 cents a pint in many bars and you can get a great meal for around £6. There aren't very many days the sun doesn't shine here on this beautiful tropical island. There are three shopping centres here. The shops, bars and restaurant prices can't be anywhere near as expensive as London. We have lots of very happy visitors come back year after year and also a lot of Brits are happy to live here in wonderful Puerto Rico.

Black mountainous hell hole with nothing to see but the sea and one shopping centre containing all bars, restaurants and pricey, trashy shops. Netto supermarket charges exorbitant prices, 50% higher than elsewhere on the island.
Boredom was a huge problem, especially on all the dull, windy days when the sun did not shine. Most pools are unheated and freezing cold. Local beer is 3.30 euros.

Having been to Puerto Rico three times now, I can say with some authority that the best night out is at ‘Tiffany's' music bar. Situated on the upper level of the main shopping centre, it is a very lively, friendly pub. The evening's entertainment gets underway quite late in the evening but is well worth the wait. Steve the DJ is a very amusing bloke and does a pop quiz every night. Free drinks for correct answers. He also plays any old rubbish.
