"Not Disability Friendly"
Travel date:
April 2006
Having travelled to Puerto del Carmen this year after all the stories I have heard about how accessible it is for disabled and on how family friendly this resort is, I could not believe was awaited me! I have a young child in a buggy! For those with young children in buggies, this is not the resort for you!
The footpaths are desperate and of a very bad standard. It is not possible to walk more than a few yards without difficulty! Tiles are repeatedly missing on the footpaths causing major difficulty when pushing buggies!
I have a relative in a wheelchair so I am very aware of the difficulties of those in wheelchairs and with walking difficulties!! Puerto del Carmen is definitely not the place to go for a holiday! Also the resort is very hilly, so if you still wish to travel here, be sure that your assistant is extremely fit to be able to push you up and down the hills!

"Places To Go!"

Puerto del Carmen, lovely place for families and couples mostly, not a really mad group holiday place. There are plenty of really nice places to eat such as New World Chinese, Lani's Indian down past the casino on the right and the Grapevine, my personal favourite, beside the Mucky Duck. There is plenty of night life. Central Atlantico has a few good bars, Fire, Big Apple. Also for live entertainment you can not beat Mulligan's (Collie Farrell, ex Usual Suspects, is brilliant!) and 928 is the place to be for a good drink good music and friendly staff (Lucy and Alex!)
The beach is lovely despite the black sand but can get very busy during the day. The resort is clean but the paths could do with fixing as there are a lot of holes and cracks in the pavements to be wary of. The PR's can get very annoying also but I suppose you get this everywhere. I will definitely be going back to Lanzarote next year it may have been my first time but certainly not my last!

'Casa Sian' is highly recommended as is the 'New World Chinese'. Both of these two restaurants were fantastic - the food was excellent, as was the service and the layout of the restaurants. The Chinese restaurant is situated at the bottom of the hill from the Parque Tropical apartments and 'Casa Sian' is situated at the Music Hall where 'Titti Trollops' is.

The Dolce Vite restaurant in Puerto del Carmen(near McDonalds) is a great place to eat during the day and for evening meals. They have a great staff who show great time for children and adults alike. Their menu is fantastic for adults and they also have a great variety of food for children.
As a family who have travelled to Lanzarote almost every year since 1997, it is hard to beat this place for food and great value. A must if in Lanzarote.

I work a lot and suddenly there was a trip available to Puerto del Carmen and I decided promptly. I stayed one week on the island but wish it had been longer. During my stay every day I had my meals at 'La Ola'. The restaurant was so enchanting in design, interior, service and food. I am looking forward to my next stay in March to come.

'La Braseria' is possibly the nicest restaurant I have ever been to and that's a lot! Not only was the food absolutely delicious, but the staff were so friendly and basically just good at their job. During my week long stay, I went there four of the nights (and regretted not going the other three!) Each time I went, they were as nice as before. I am a steak fan so would get steak and chips each time because it was just so nice! My friend had the lasagne each time and loved it! The desserts were beautiful and presented very well! The price of the food was great and if I remember correctly, the cost of a steak dinner and lasagne which included two cokes, was only €21! I definitely recommend this restaurant to everybody!

We visited this restaurant a couple of times during our holiday and it was definitely our favourite. It is located in the Old Town harbour area round the corner from 'Mulligan's' bar. Owned and run by an Irish/Polish husband and wife team, the menu is an eclectic delight. Very friendly staff, great food, lovely decor and not overpriced. Result!

"Spenders Bar Is The Best"

There are 100s of bars in Lanzarote, so how do you pick your favourite? Me and my husband have been going to Lanzarote twice a year and last time we were there, my husband found a little place called 'Spenders' bar that just reminded him of his local at home where everybody knows you and makes you feel right at home. 'Spenders' bar is off the main street and up a hill. The staff there are very friendly and even remembered us from last year, which was very nice and you got to know some of the locals. Highly recommend.

Well,'Jasper's' is a bar and restaurant I would recommend to everyone. If you want a nice quiet drink and a good bite to eat, well you should go there and if you like a wee flutter, there is a bookie there. If you like your football, then go in here because there are multi TV screens which show different matches on each screen. So go here for a nice quick drink which is cheap too so I would recommend here to everyone.

This is undoubtedly the best pub on the island. Wee John is the perfect host and in all my travels, I have never been made feel more welcome than I did in the 'Ibrox House'. Although small and inconvenienced by its very location, this pub is by far a must for every rangers fan visiting the island as you will be made welcome and enjoy the company of fellow fans from far and wide.
