Playa Blanca Information

Playa Blanca is situated at the southern end of Lanzarote, in the centre of a bay which contains three smaller bays, each with their own sandy beaches. Originally a fishing village, over the last few years Playa Blanca has been developed into one of the major tourist areas of the island, although as it is not as large as Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise, the traditional character of the village is maintanied. Apart from the main beach, there are a number of secluded sandy beaches nearby. There are many shops, bars and restaurants in Playa Blanca, but a busy night life takes place in Puerto del Carmen.

The island of Fuerteventura lies to the south of Playa Blanca and a regular car ferry service runs from the harbour to Fuerteventura, the journey taking about 40 minutes.

The Cay Sun Beach Aparthotel is so close to the beach, only a ten minute walk! Playa Dorada is lovely and there are many bars and restaurants on the seafront: I highly recommend the Chinese 'Mandarin' (fairly inexpensive and the waiters are very attentive). It also take 25 minutes to get to the newly built Marina Rubicon which is well worth it: there are some lovely restaurants such as 'Lanis' and there is an arcade, bowling, bars and shops.

I would highly rate the excursions Thomas Cook offer: we went on the Catlanza Catamaran where you swim in the sea and jet-ski etc. We also went on the 'Southern Tour' which takes you to the National Park, on camels, to caves and vineyards etc., which was highly enjoyable.

Great food, banquets very reasonable (12 euros per person). Lovely location and very friendly staff.

If you like Chinese food and you don't want to pay through the nose for quality and service, try this one. Located in the middle of the bay on the promenade. Ask for Angela.

Middle of the bay with an outlook over the bay. Can easily be missed as it's on the upper floor level with the street. From this end the door belies the size of the room. Good honest beer and food.
