Patalavaca is situated on the south coast of Gran Canaria, between Puerto Rico and Puerto Mogán. It is a quieter resort than Puerto Rico and has a beach and a yachting harbour as well as shops and restaurants.

A short distance away is the old fishing village of Arquinequin, with its many fish restaurants and a harbour, where visitors can take a ferry to Puerto Rico and Puerto Mogán. The market, held on a Tuesday in Arquinequin, is the largest on Gran Canaria.
