Watch out for excessive drink prices in the nightclubs though! It is very hot in Summer and in fact many residents leave the city in August to head for the countryside or the coast. Some shops may close during these times but there is still ample choice even then.
Things not to miss:

• Barri Gotic (Gothic quarter)
  Take a walk around the maze of streets which is the Barri Gotic, with a surprise around every corner. Cathedrals, squares, shops, bars and restaurants abound in the oldest part of Barcelona.
• La Rambla (popular pedestrianised boulevard)
  The place to see and be seen. Expect to pay over the odds here, coffee can be up to five euros (just over one euro elsewhere!). A wonderful, popular street which runs primarily between the harbour and Placa Catalunya alongside the gothic quarter.
• Sagrada Familia (Gaudi's most famous architecture)
  Examples of Gaudi's work can be found all around Barcelona, which is one of the city's many charms. The Sagrada Familia is arguably Gaudi's greatest work and the construction continues today, from Gaudi's original plans.

From the airport, taxis cost between 20 and 30 euros with additional charges for luggage. The best option is the Barcelona aerobus which costs 3.90 euros and runs between the airport and Placa Catalunya (central Barcelona) every 15 minutes from early morning to after midnight. The metro (Barcelona's underground) is cheap and efficient as is the national train service.
