The town of Alora is situated 40 kilometres north of Málaga and just 12 kilometres south of El Chorro. It is a typical 'pueblo blanco' from which visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Guadalhorce river basin. The village is said to be the birthplace of Malagueño flamenco.

The village of Alora has a series of very steep slopes and cobbled streets. The whitewashed streets are lined with lemon trees and converge on a square on the lowest level, overlooked by the 17th century church of La Encarnación. Alora's economy is based on agriculture, in particular the cultivation of tropical fruits, olives and grapes.
