Montilla is a town situated some 50 kilometres south of Córdoba. It was the birthplace in 1453 of the Spaniard, Gonzalo Fernandez de Córdoba known as 'The Great Captain'. Today the area produces olive oil and a pale light dry wine, Montilla, which gives its name to the pale Amontillado sherry.
