The history of the city goes back to the seventh century BC. In 711 the Moors took the city and under their rule many buildings were erected, the most famous being the royal palace of Alhambra. In 1497 the Moors were conquered and Granada became part of Spain. Today there are still many historic buildings and parks to be visited in the old town area, in addition to the Alhambra. Being a university town, the night life is popular in the clubs, bars and restaurants of the more modern part of the city.
