Tortosa is the capital of the Baix Ebre area, at the southern end of the Costa Dorada. It is situated about 80 kilometres south of Tarragona, on the Ebro River, and is the most important commercial city of the region. The city dates back about 2,000 years, and has many examples of medieval, Gothic, baroque and modernist architecture.
