Basque Country

Basque Country (Basque: Euskadi, Spanish: País Vasco) is an autonomous community in Spain, the capital being is Vitoria (Basque: Gasteiz). The following provinces make up Basque Country: Álava (Basque: Araba), capital Vitoria-Gasteiz (Basque: Gasteiz); Vizcaya (Basque: Bizkaia), capital Bilbao (Basque: Bilbo) and Guipúzcoa (Basque: Gipuzkoa), capital San Sebastián (Basque: Donostia).

Bilbao is the financial and economic centre of the region. It is also one of Europe's main reference points for architecture and contemporary art.
