The island is about 63 kilometres long and 28 kilometres wide, with its highest mountain, Mount Pantokratoras, reaching 906 metres. It is one of the greenest of the Greek Islands, with extensive Olive plantations, but today its most important industry is tourism, with over 90 sandy or shingle beaches. The capital of the island is Corfu Town where the main port and airport are situated.
