La Rioja is bordered by the Basque Country (province of Álava), Navarre, Aragon (province of Zaragoza), and Castilla y León (provinces of Soria and Burgos). The Río Ebro flows through this region, as does the Río Oja, for which it is known.
La Rioja has three different types of landscape: the Ebro Valley, to the north, has gentle slopes and includes the River Ebro and the lower sections of the rivers; the Sierras Ibéricas mountain ranges to the south which have areas of woods, scrub land and pastures and Piedemonte with medium-height mountains located between the depression of the River Ebro and the foothills of the Ibéricas mountain range.
