Located on the western part of the Andalucia coastline, the Costa de La Luz - 'coast of light' runs from the border of Portugal and Spain in the north, right down to Tarifa in the south and faces out to the Atlantic. This coast is often divided into two sections: Costa de La Luz (Huelva Province) which stretches from the Portuguese border to the Donaņa park and the River Guadalquivir and Costa de La Luz (Cadiz Province) which stretches from the River Guadalquivir to Tarifa at the mouth of the Mediterranean sea.
The area boasts golden sands and the beaches tend to be backed by sand dunes and pine trees. This part of the coast has not seen the high-rise hotel development of other areas, although the modern resorts do offer sporting facilities and entertainment and the often strong Atlantic winds and waves are favoured by wind surfers and surf boarders. However, the area also offers the ancient cities of Cadiz, Jerez and Seville and it is close to the Donana national park.
