I read the reviews for this hotel and decided to make up my own mind. The trip from Reus Airport was swift, 15 minutes, as there were plenty of taxis. The cost is 29 euros one way. Taxis are expensive in general. Three euros on the meter right away and clicks upwards as soon as you move.

The hotel reception staff were polite and helpful at all times. I had a problem with my room safe and within five minutes of getting back to my room from reception, I had the maintenance man at the door and the safe was fixed in less than five minutes. I also had a problem with the room telephone, again fixed within ten minutes. The restaurant staff were friendly and helpful as well. The bar staff and maids were likewise. Towels changed every day.

The food was good with a large variety. Lets face it, fowl, pork, beef and fish and veal with a selection of vegetables - how many way can you cook and present it? This hotel does very well indeed and I had no problems with the menu for the 14 days. The pork and beef steaks cooked at the hotplate were first class. The chefs were very friendly especially 'Henri the magnificent' the number 1 chef of the period. He was always in the same frame of mind and mood. I guess that the people that say the staff are not friendly probably have not tried to learn to speak a few words in Spanish. There is of course the language barrier and not all the staff can speak English and this could account for some comments. If they don't know what you are saying it is not ignorance.

Sun beds were never a problem and there are plenty of them. The location of the hotel is also first class for the town and theme park. Walk around the corner to the Hotel Caribe Resort and there is a train to take you to the theme park. There are plenty of bars near the hotel. The 'Titanic', '007', 'Murphys', 'Robin Hood' for mince and tatties, 'Idol's', 'Fox And Hounds' etc. Just around the corner from the 'Titanic' is 'Linda's' - first class fish supper if you are missing it.

So, on summary; I can't fault the Vil.la Romana hotel, or any of the staff, nor the food, or location. I would recommend this hotel to anyone at all. It is also disabled friendly.

Finally, there is the 'House of Illusions' a magic show lasting for two and a half hours at the cost of 35 euros for inclusive meal and drinks, or 25 euros without the meal. A wee night out worth the effort.

Review title: "Villa Romana Should Be Five Star!"
Travel date: August 2007
I went to the Villa Romana with my mum, dad, brother, my mum's best friend, her kids and another family. I was 11 at the time and we enjoyed it so much we are going back this year (the same time). The weather was immaculate all the time and the staff were fantastic. One night my grandma tried to ask for a table for seven even though there were only five of us. The staff were very kind and taught her how to count to ten in spanish. By the end of the holiday she could count perfectly.

I would recomend Villa Romana to anyone.

Review title: "Best Hotel I've Been To!"
Travel date: August 2007
Vil.la Romana was the best hotel I've stayed in in Spain! The food was lovely and so was Henry, who did the omelettes in the mornings. The gala dinners on Fridays were brilliant, the hotel giving a red rose to all the women.

The rooms were very good and the bar tenders were so good looking, ha ha!

But overall the best hotel you could hope for!

The Villa Romana is a lovely hotel. It is ideally situated within walking distance of the parks, town and beach. We all found the staff friendly and the food very good, although there could be more choice for children!

The rooms were very clean - only thing we found was the air conditioning could have been more effective. We had a great time.

Would say this hotel is a three star. Food same every night. Rooms are fine. Staff were OK until you had a problem, then forget it, they don't want to know. I had to change rooms and left a pair of brand new leather shoes. I asked for them next day and was told that maid said there were no shoes left so I was afraid to leave anything out. Other people told me the same thing. Thank goodness it was not cash I left. I tried to tell reception but to no avail. They just start speaking in Spanish. I felt as if it was me in the wrong.

Would go back to Salou but not this hotel. Didn't feel belongings were safe. Have a visit to the 'Hole In The Wall pub. Anna and Charlie make you feel at home. We had a great time with them. Say hello from us!

Review title: "Best Hotel In Spain!"
Travel date: July 2006
I thought the hotel was very big with friendly staff. The swimming pool was warm and also fairly big. The food had to be one of the best things - it was delicious and there were tons of choices and I liked the help yourself idea.

The rooms were nice, the beds were comfy and nice balcony views.

There is an internet room and a games room, a lift, air conditioing, a gift shop and a mini park. The beach etc. was not far either! Five star - recommend the Villa Romana for every age!

Review title: "Fantastic Hotel!!"
Travel date: July 2005
Our first time staying in a hotel instead of self catering. Booked two rooms, one for us and daughter, other for two teenage sons. Rooms were right next to each other! Very clean spacious and comfortable. Maid in every day to do beds and clean. Pools inside and out were fab!

Our sons loved the gym and activities during the day. Kids' club was a bit disappointing for our eight year - nothing really organised as such - ok for younger kids but the mini disco at night was very good - prizes etc.

The hotel food was fabulous - great selection for all and plenty of it! Friday nights gala dinner was superb! Red roses for all the ladies! Would definitely book this hotel again and would recommend it to all.

Port Adventura is only short walk away and is a must for families! Salou main shopping is also a short walk. Train nearby - we went to Barcelona for the day ourselves - beautiful and worth visiting! Beach is gorgeous.

We would have no complaints about this hotel but would say for you to bring your own hairdryer as the one in room is not powerful!!! Also if you like your cups of tea at night in your room there is no kettle. You can have room service but it will cost you! Other than that we definitely recommend this hotel for a great holiday!

Review title: "Villa Romana - Beautiful"
Travel date: May 2005
I stayed at the Villa Romana Hotel for one week in May 2005. I found the staff could not do enough for me and my family. The food was first class and well presented with plenty of choice for every nationality. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Salou.
The only fault we could find was that we only stayed for one week. Myself and my family would like to thank all the staff at Villa Romana Hotel for a wonderful week in their beautiful hotel and a beautiful country. Hope to see you all next year, God willing.

Review title: "Impressive Hotel"
Travel date: September 2004
This was my first visit to Salou and I found this hotel to be excellent. The standard of food, accomodation and service was second to none, so much so that we have booked to go back this year.

The location is ideal for families and couples as it is within walking distance of the resorts imenities. We had a rooms at the front of the hotel with views of the theme park and were able to watch the firework displays from our balconies.

The only fault that I could find is that some of the parents allow their kid jump over the settees in the foyer/reception with their wet bathing clothes which is ruining the furniture.

The resort itself was quite quiet with a beautiful long and wide promenade with fountains and a small play ground for kids. We didn't sample any of the other restraunts in the resort as the food in the hotel was exceptional for a buffet menu and therer was ample of everything without repeating too much over the week.

Wait until you see the restaurant, if you love food you will be in heaven. Close to resort centre and Port Aventura. The entertainment wasn't up to much, that is why have given nine out of ten. We are going again this year and can't wait.

Something for everyone in the resort. Lots of shops, bars and restaurants and sandy beaches. Will suit families and people of any age.

These opinions are those of HotelStreet visitors and not of HotelStreet.
