Review title: "Do Not Rely On The Entertainment"
Travel date: February 2008
Our kids who are five and six look forward to the mini disco when we go away. The Puerto Tahiche has a mini disco in their entertainment lounge but it is set in a completely dangerous location right next to some steps. I had read this in a review before I went but had foolishly not taken this in. Imagine a stage ahead of you and imagine you're a child on the dance floor facing the stage but at the side of you is an eight foot wide staircase. Now imagine you're the parent in the audience, are you having a relaxing time? No. We were a nervous wreck and found other entertainment.

I am no health and safety expert but I assume this layout would not be tolerated in the UK. It is an accident waiting to happen.

Our children went to the 11 a.m. activities a few times but they were cold as they were held in a cold area of the hotel. They were also bored as the activities involved the same things - a game called 'Cookies' where you roll discs through holes.

It took nearly an hour to check in and most people were told to come back in half an hour for requests such as safe keys and extra keys. Of course everyone went back in half an hour and there were equally long queues. The safe key costs around four euros a day and that adds quite a chunk to your holiday bill.

Communal toilet areas were not kept clean and there was no toilet roll. The pool is freezing. The rooms need a good clean and ours smelt musty. When the person above us showered water poured into our kitchen area. For self catering we had one pan, two plates and one bowl. When I told reception we didn't have cutlery and crockery, they brought us a few more plates.

In terms of location the hotel is perfect for the beach and both ends of the resort, that's about it.

It was great. I went with my parents and 11 year old sister and it was great. All the staff were friendly and the cleaners did a great job. Our apartment was never untidy.
Th pools are great and there was always a relaxed atmosphere.

There are some great restaurants close as well so we never needed to go far as the bars and clubs around were all family places and I would recomend anyone with kids to go there. There's also a kids club! We never had any problems when we went to the Puerto Tahiche, not a thing!

On arrival, we turned on the kettle and this blew the whole of the electrics so we had to boil water on the cooker, not a good start. We had a TV in the room but were told it would cost us to buy a remote but this would have been a waste of money as the TV systems weren't working anyway.

We had a nice day out to see the Carnival and returned at 2 a.m. to find we had been broken into. We were one of ten couples who had been robbed in the last few hours. When we arrived the reception SOLD (not a deposit) us a key for 27 euros for a lock box. This was crow barred out of the wall and floor packed into our suitcase and wheeled out. It contained our passports, money, keys and other personal items. A lock box is supposed to keep safe. When leaving we were offered five euros for safe return of the key. You can imagine we won't be returning.

Stayed at Puerto Tahiche twice and going back in October. Very good value for money. Ideally situated, staff very good and friendly, basic accommodation but clean. I love Teguise - very laid back and relaxing.
