brilliant apartments - really clean with friendly staff. Every thing you needed - don't very often get a toaster and a microwave in self catering any more so was a bonus.
Fantastic location for the night life. Looking to go back in February. Don't know why people bad rate the Roque Nublo apartments.

A last minute trip booked us into the Roque Nublo hotel. We found the hotel to be clean, staff were friendly and within easy reach (two minutes walk) of bars/restaurants and entertainment.
It has basic room items - toaster/microwave/fridge freezer and coffee maker. Ladies - no hair dyer and the hot water is a little slow when having a shower but manageable for two adults.
Would we go back there? Trying to get booked now (24 hours after arriving back in the UK).

"Don't Stay Here!"
Travel date:
August 2009
We were booked to stay at the Roque Nublo for a fortnight and didn't even last a full day. The reception (for what it was) was a hole in the wall and it was pot luck if someone was there.
A lot of these apartments are owned by local Spaniards and it was a case of 'spot the holiday maker'. In the morning all that could be heard was a lot of Spanish mothers screaming at their children.
The room was very dirty and items were broken e.g. mirror on the wall, handrail in the bathroom and we had to hold the shower head so that we could take a shower as the head was falling to the wall. A broken bulb was still in the lamp between the beds and if a child had touched it, goodness only knows what might have happened.
We paid for two weeks use of the safe in our room and in the light of day, we contacted our holiday rep and informed her that we had no intention of spending another day in this accommodation and if they could not find us an alternative hotel, then we would be taking the next flight back home.
It did take us the complete first day of our holiday to get another hotel but it was worth it. On leaving this dump, the porter refused to return the money including the deposit we paid for the safe in our room for the fortnight so I asked him to call the policia and only then did he return our money to us.
We stayed at the Liberty apartments and these apartments were how I would expect a holiday to be. I can recommend staying at the Liberty, where the staff are more than happy to help you with what ever you require.
There is no form of entertainment what so ever at the Roque Nublo or even a bar. The only good thing about this place was the weather and you had to leave it to get that! I am asked to give this place a rating between one and ten but I'm sorry, this dump gets a zero from us.

"Wouldn't Recommend To Anyone"
Travel date:

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. I had 600 euros stolen from my safe. The hotel said this was impossible and were not very helpful at all. I was told the police were coming in to check the safe for about a week and nothing happened.
The pool has a lot of tiles missing, which my friend ended up cutting her foot quite badly on. There also weren't any doctors open.
The rooms are very basic. The floor is disgusting - you get black feet if you walk around bare foot. The beds are very hard and uncomfortable and air con is definitely needed.
There also weren't many facilities within the hotel such as a bar or any entertainment. I didn't feel safe when at the Kasbah as the PRs can be very rude. My friend also had his wallet stolen from his back pocket.
Overall I didn't like the Roque Nublo hotel. Reception were very rude and unhelpful. The rooms are clearly not safe if some can get into your safety deposit box and take your money. I am having a lot of problems trying to claim this money back.

The Roque Nublo apartments are very central to everything and basic. Only thing we didn't like about the apartments was the single beds and you had to pay to watch TV.
Me and my boyfriend were there for a week and really enjoyed Gran Canaria. Plenty to do and see. You must go to 'Benny Hill's 'just down below the apartments. Staff all so helpful.
If you get any wet days, go to the bowling alley which will cost you around three euros. There's a bar and fun fair at it. Weather in January this year was around 24 every day, I'll definitely be back in Playa del Inlges.

We are two gay guys from Manchester. The Roque Nublo apartment is right on the Yumbo Centre and this place has got everything going for it apart from the gardener who starts at 5 a.m. most mornings, which really does your head in.
Rooms were very clean. I would come back here again. Pool was lovely and gay friendly. Playa del Ingles is very good. I love coming here. Looking forward to next time. Ideal for any age, couples, gay or straight - beaches and pools - can't go wrong. 100% much better than the old fashioned Benidorm.

We stayed at the Roque Nublo due to the proximity to the Yumbo Centre which was adjacent to the hotel. Plus and minus points here though - quick to get to in the evening, but noisy up until 4 a.m. and sometimes 6 a.m., so not great if you have a family or want an early night!
The hotel itself was basic, but clean and very pleasant staff. The pool area is lovely but no bar. Shops and restaurants are all very, very close and it really is a quick walk to the main night life.
Facilities in the room were OK - no kettle, but it doesn't take long to boil water in the saucepan.
Will definitely stay there again. Booked through Thomson Cook and Sunset holidays. A great holiday with good hotel and brilliant sunshine!

I stayed in the Roque Nublo for two weeks with two of my friends. We had a fantastic time.
It was a two minute walk to the Yumbo centre that our balcony looked onto. Also, it only costs about two euros for a taxi to the Kasbah centre which we went to every night.
There is everything for everyone to do, e.g. mini golf, shopping, eating and brilliant sunshine.
I would recommend 'Benny Hills' for a bite to eat and also the staff are brilliant in there.
Only thing is the pool is very busy at the weekends with the Spanish kids and there is no air-con but we just left the bedroom window open to let the air in.
I wish I was going back this year. (Overall I would definitely recommend the Roque Nublo for younger people wanting a very lively holiday.

I stayed in the Roque Nublo - four girls for a week away and it was fantastic! The apartments were in walking distance to everything, they were cleaned daily, the pool and exterior of the apartments were clean and well presented and as it is a Thomas Cook/Sunset resort daily excursions were put on, although I felt that we didn't need to do all of them as there was plenty to do within ten to 15 minutes walk.
All in all the Roque Nublo is a brilliant place to stay and I would happily go there again and again!

I thought Roque Nublo was fine. The rooms were very clean and the maid was there every other day.
The lifts weren't very big but nothing to complain about. The rooms could sleep up to four if someone doesn't mind sleeping on the couch. There is internet access in the reception area. The pool is bigger than it looks but tastes of salt.
It's a bit noisy at night but not that bad that you cant sleep. Overall it was good.

Great two star place to stay if you want to stay by the Yumbo centre. Clean and tidy. Beware that the cleaner changes towels every other day and bed linen only on Mondays.
Noisy at night and during early rush hour. No air con. Shops and places to eat directly under apartments including money exchange and pharmacy. Residents also live in the apartments.

The photo for the apartments really does not give it justice. It looks a lot better on appearance than you can see.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helped whenever they could. The pool was very nice and clean and rarely busy - so you don't have to be up at the crack of dawn to guarantee a bed!
The rooms are very spacious and have all you need - TV, fridge/freezer (which is really cold), microwave, cooker and coffee maker!
Added bonus is the they have two internet computers that are very cheap to use in the lobby.
Overall it made mine and my mate's stay all the better.

"Brilliant Holiday At The Roque Nublo Apartments!"
Travel date:
July 2007
Me and my boyfriend have just come back from the Roque Nublo apartments and we had a fantastic time! The first thing I must say is that picture doesn't do the place justice, it's better in real life!
We were unsure of what the place would be like as we got the deal pretty much last minute but we were pleasantly surprised. The apartments are very basic but comfortable and spacious. So if you are looking for a luxurious place to stay and are expecting five star hotel quality, don't go here.
The apartments have the usual things like a balcony, fridge, cooker, living area, television (I must add, the TV is a slot machine TV so you do have to pay a little bit of money) and if you want a kettle, then you have to pay a deposit. You also have to pay a deposit for the safe key but its so cheap that its not a problem.
The apartments are not ideal for people that want a quiet holiday and want to go to bed early as the apartments are situated behind the Yumbo centre and there are also bars below. The night life is fantastic and the people are extremely friendly! I would advise anyone to go to the bars below the apartments such as 'Paddy Murphy's' and our personal favourite 'Benny Hills' where you will find friendly staff who make you feel very welcome!
Everything is within reach of the hotel such as the Kasbah centre where you will find all the clubs such as Ministry, Cream, China Whites etc. The market is down the road and the beach is about a 15 minute walk away, but if you want to be lazy, you can get a cab which won't cost more than three euros! One good thing about this island is it is extremely cheap, we couldn't believe how cheap everything was!
Overall the holiday was excellent and very good for the money! We will definitely be back again!

"Great Stay at Roque Nublo "
Travel date:
April 2007
Just stayed at the Roque Nublo Apartments during the Easter fortnight this year. The apartments were excellent value for money - I admit they were basic, but they were spotlessly clean and the towels and bedding were regularly changed. The maid must have come in every other day leaving fresh towels and cleaning up. What more can you ask for? I found all the staff very friendly.
I loved these apartments - they were a two minute walk from the Yumbo Centre (gay centre). A visit to 'Ricky's Cabaret Bar' is a must - we went there most nights, where there's a drag show on every night (with the routines being changed) which is hilarious. Although this is the gay centre, everyone is made welcome and we went nearly every night with the kids and were always made welcome.
Although the apartments are only 50 metres from the Yumbo Centre, I didn't find them noisy at all. There are bars and restaurants underneath the apartments as well and I never had trouble going to sleep (although I must admit we were out until about 2 a.m. every night).
The pool area was always clean and most of the time there was only my husband, kids and me in the pool! There were plenty of spare sun beds as the pool area was never crowded.
The apartments are about a 15 minute walk from beach and other centres such as Kasbah Centre. I found Playa del Ingles a brilliant resort and there are loads of nice restaurants. The Chinese buffets 'eat all you want' were excellent.
I had a brill holiday in Playa del Ingles - there are loads of shops, pubs, discos, restaurants and the beach is fantastic. The sand dunes at Maspalomas are amazing.
I would recommend these apartments and this resort to everyone. I wouldn't bother looking elsewhere - I would definitely stay here again.

"Our Opinion"
Travel date:
February 2007
Let's just clear one thing up, in no way is Roque Nublo a five star complex but we knew that when we booked. If you are expecting a five star resort, you are going to be very disappointed. If not, what you get is great accommodation.
Accommodation that is spotless and spacious. Of course it's basic but again, you get what you pay for. The balcony was great to just chill out on overlooking the pool and landscape. The rooms were large, comfortable and a great base for our holiday. The complex is also residential which kind of says if people choose to live there all year it ain't all bad. On the downside the shower had no hot water until we realised what we thought was a shaver socket that had been left on that we turned off actually controlled it (weird set up) but piping hot water all day and night when we needed it.
And as they say 'location' location'. And yes, there is some noise but again if you're staying next to the Yumbo centre, you would kind of expect that. With that in mind, the apartments had blackout curtains and to be honest, we were not disturbed by the noise in the slightest. But again, if it's a relaxing early night you are after, these apartments/resort is probably not for you. We could not fault the location or the apartment we stayed in.
Not only would we recommend it but it would be our first choice if we returned. It was clean, safe and so centrally located you could roll home if you so choose. Or if not, it's within walking distance of all the bars, shops, restaurants and clubs as well as all the attractions of the resort and hey, there are better hotels and better resorts but for the money we paid it exceeded all our expectations. The beach can be a bit of a trek but we walked everyday and enjoyed that too. It never took anymore than ten minutes and on the days we were too lazy to return, three euros in a cab.
Please note: In my opinion, the pictures do not do the apartments justice. Yes, there are a couple of typical tourist bars but equally they have one of the island's best voted restaurants in the same parade.
The pool area was everything it kind of should be but with such a great beach, we never really spent much time there. We booked with Thomas Cook and the only down side was the First Choice flight home had very, very cramped and small seats.

To describe Roque Nublo as basic would be to describe the sun as merely warm. I would not stay here again. I accept when we go on holiday, facilities are not as we have at home. However, some modicum of comfort is required. For example, the shower ran hot for around 30 seconds, and thereafter remained cold for the remainder of that day. The single beds provided are at least 15 years old, with lots of very suspicious looking stains infesting them - as well as, I've no doubt, other things. The terrace is so enclosed the sun could not force its way onto it. The staff are completely unhelpful, to the point of ignorance. The pool area I found to be poorly maintained, with build ups of litter around the edges - hardly sanitary.
These points aside, I enjoyed my holiday in Playa del Ingles thoroughly - just if you are going, perhaps don't stay here. It is very noisy, but one expects this given the location adjacent to the Yumbo Centre and the karaoke bars and restaurants underneath the apartments.
All in all, these apartments are below standard for a British tour operator to be using - even given that this was a cheap break. They are dirty, poorly maintained and thoroughly unpleasant.

Have stayed here now for six times and every time we are always made welcome and there always a smiling face from the staff and management. We like these apartments as we are a gay couple. It's close to the Yumbo centre and we find it easy staggering distance to crawl home in the early hours.
Also, this year we're going on November 5th 2007 - end of our Blackpool season. Can't wait. We're going away with one of our parents, her sister and a good friend and even though they are straight, we feel this place is a safe environment for them and especially clean as well.
Every time we have been we have found it spotlessly clean and staff always helpful. So keep up the good work, Roque Nublo.

OK, when I found out where I was staying, I naturally got straight on the net to see when kind of reviews were there. And to be totally fair, I was more than a little concerned that I was going to a dump from some of the things I read! However, I thought it only right to try and put the record straight a little.
The Roque Nublo Apartments do basically what it says on the tin - no more, no less. Our apartment was clean and really well equipped. Yes, perhaps the decor was a little shabby here and there, but not to the point that the place was falling apart or anything. And there was a massive fridge, which was brilliant to keep the pretty much everything in! By the end of the week I was quite sorry to say goodbye to that fridge! The maid service was fantastic and they were very friendly, as were the reception. Oh yeah, internet access in the reception, not badly priced at all!
The main picture on this site really doesn't do the place justice. It looks like the apartments are over a fish market, when in reality there are about five or six really nice cafe bars that serve good food and the staff are all extremely friendly. I would kind of suggest that an alternative photo be used and give the place a chance!
Only bad point was no air con. We took to sleeping on the balcony in the end because it was so hot (not complaining though). Also, if you are going to Gran Canaria, before booking the Roque Nublo, consider your party. It backs on to the Yumbo Centre and is very, very noisy until about 4.00 a.m. (ish). I would really say great for a group of mates or us young folk who enjoy dancing the night away, but perhaps stay away if you have little kids/babies/or want a quite nights sleep!
I had a totally wicked holiday here. If I were going to Gran Canaria again, I would totally stay here again. Its no frills, but has no nasty surprises either. So if you don't mind a bit of noise and can handle the no air con (although, not entirely sure if they had it in other apartments, you might need to check), I would definitely recommend this place. Don't let the picture put you off - it is really pretty cool!

What a fantastic holiday! All the staff working at the Roque Nublo were all very friendly and willing to help. The apartments were well looked after and spotless. The maids came in to clean the rooms near enough everyday!
The pool area was spacious, and, most of the time, quiet! The bars underneath the apartments were very convenient and never noisy. The Paddy Murphy's bar is a must when visiting Playa del Ingles. Such a warm and friendly atmosphere with the entertainer John in the evenings and not forgetting the owner of the bar who always looked after us! And the restaurant next door called El Duke does the most amazing breakfasts. The best I've ever had!
Just a word of warning though. It is a real eye opener when visiting the Yumbo centre which is round the back of the apartments, due to all the gay clubs and bars!
The only downside of the holiday was travelling with Thomas Cook, as the reps were dreary and gave a very unprofessional view of the company! However this will be a holiday I won't forget in a long time and I can't wait to go back and see everyone!

I just got back from Gran Canaria yesterday and tanned up in March. Playa del Ingles is a great resort. We stayed at the Roque Nublo Apartments and found the decor and facilities in them to quite basic. They don't come with a kettle, iron/board and the television operates on a money slot system which we found to be very cheeky indeed. However, we can't fault the cleanliness of the apartments. They are well looked after.
A great feature of the apartments is the balcony, which is large and offers great relaxing views of the pool. The pool itself is a good size, very nice and clean and rarely overcrowded.
There are a string of bars and restaurants below the apartments and I strongly recommend you visit 'Benny Hills'. The entertainment is great and the staff are magnificent.
In conclusion, the apartments offer everything you could want- great location, good size and cleanliness. The Playa del Ingles resort is nice; the people are friendly and helpful. The beach is a 10-15 minute walk from the apartments and the sand dunes of Maspalomas are also of equal distance (make sure you visit them!).
Also, make sure you pay a visit to Puerto Rico and visit the 'Amadores' beach. It's about a 25 minute bus ride from Playa del Ingles but the bus ride is a treat in itself. The journey goes through winding mountain roads and you're sure to see some absolutely stunning scenery. This region of the country is absolutely beautiful and the Canarians are very nice people. I'm sure wherever you go in Gran Canaria you're sure to have a great time.
