Review title: "Don't Expect Too Much"
Travel date: September 2008
Stayed here all inclusive, two adults and two teenagers. Arrived very late but receptionist was friendly and helpful. They left us a snack in the restuarant but this was cold meat and cheese on a plate under cling film and a some rolls that were rock hard. No butter and a bottle of water.

Then off to our rooms. These were basic but clean and the multi channel TV included CNN as the only English speaking channel and Eurosport.

Always had to queue to get into the restuarant and the ninety per cent of the staff were discourteous and sometimes even down right rude. The food was the same virtually every night with the exception of the meat that was cooked while you waited. It appeared that all inclusive clients were treated like second class citizens. On three occasions we had finished our meal and had still not been served with drinks and if you had the audacity to ask a waitress, you were told 'we are busy'. Snacks are not available between 12 and three from the bars and the pool bar was closed completely on three of the days. Entertainment was very poor and aimed at the locals. All inclusive bar shut at 11.30. Two of the bar staff were friendly but the rest were arrogant and more interested in serving the single women.

The whole place needs upgrading and it certainly does not meet the standards of other hotels in the Best chain. I would neither stay here again nor recommend the Sol d'Or hotel to anyone. On the plus side, La Pineda itself is pleasant enough.

Review title: "Good Value For Money"
Travel date: September 2007
Just arrived home from a lovely week at Sol d'OR. It is a very Spanish orientated hotel. All the evening entertainment in Spanish, this also goes for the children's entertainment, but the kids seem to enjoy the disco from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

If you get a room close to the restaurant, it can be quite noisy until midnight when the entertainment finishes. Be warned, if you want English TV, all you get is CNN News and occasionally Euro Sport in English.

The food was plentiful and a good variation with loads of fruit. Don't worry if you think you're going to miss a good old beefburger or cheeseburger, they do a great one every night with seeded rolls and all the trimmings.

The bed linen was only changed once in the week although the towels were changed daily and rooms cleaned daily.

The swimming pool, although we did not use it, appeared very clean and was cleaned every morning. A small splash pool for the tots was a little to close to the main pool with no safeguard between them. There is a pool lifeguard on duty during the day.

The only thing I found is the staff could appear a little happier in their job. We found them struggling to smile at times.

The hotel is situated close to the fantastic beach with great soft sand and ideal for bathing - the kids will love it (EEC Blueflag). Sun beds on beach with a shade a little expensive at 14 euros for two the day. We bought a small umbrella for 2.95 euros which did the job. The wind seemed to get up in afternoon and the sand being so fine was flying every where.

We found the resort had plenty of restaurants with good quality food. The promenade in the evening was well lit and and we enjoyed walking to the other end of the prom and shops. We found a nice little English beach bar which also does a great cup of coffee ('Ann's Beach Bar') behind the tobacconist, also a 60" Sky screen to watch the football.
The hotel is within easy walking distance of a water park and a short bus ride from universal studios PortAventura.
Only a short transfer time from Reus airport, the fastest I have ever had. Overall a great last minute holiday.

Review title: "Great!"
Travel date: July 2006
The Sol d'Or is a great hotel. As soon as you get in the staff are great and very helpful. The rooms are reasonably good, very clean and I can find nothing bad about them. The swimming pool is really good but you need to get up early to get a good sun bed spot.

There wasn't much entertainment but last year had lots of entertainment. We didn't visit the beach but it looked fine. Two minutes away from market which supplies everything you need. Bus to PortAventura a couple of minutes away. Good fun for kids and adults. The playground at the back could do with cleaning.

Bar really good all inclusive, good quality restaurant - amazing, especially the breakfast grill, although a little repetitive. Overall very good quality for a three hotel.

Review title: "Better Than Ever!"
Travel date: August 2005
This was the fourth consecutive year we have stay here and it continues to get better and better. We stayed for two weeks and found the staff helpful and friendly, the rooms clean and our maid was very efficient changing the beds twice weekly and towels more often than that. The food catered for everyone, even my daughter who is fussy! We will definitely be back next year.

Review title: "Excellent Holiday"
Travel date: August 2005
We've just arrived back from holiday after staying in the Sol d'Or. The hotel was excellent overall and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was good, the pool was excellent and the hotel is in a great location.

La Pineda was lovely and the public transport was the best we've ever used. There was always someone around to help with bus reps at most stops at some point during the day. The rooms in the hotel are comfortable and we found the air conditioning to be excellent. To be honest we loved the place and will definitely go again.

A lot of the visitors were Dutch, Russian, German and Spanish but everyone seemed to get along. My two boys aged 11 and eight made loads of friends and I would like to say a big thanks to the entertainment staff there. Marc and Nina were brilliant with the kids as were all the staff and they made the holiday an unforgettable one.

Port Aventura was brilliant as was Costa Caribe. We didn't have time for Aquopolis in La Pineda but it looked brilliant also. Overall the hotel was excellent and La Pineda was lovely. Go there you won't regret it!

This was the first time we had been abroad as a family so were very wary. No need. Whole holiday was excellent from start to finish. Definitely go back again. Thank you to all concerned.

Review title: "Noise From Kitchens Air-Con"
Travel date: May 2005
The noise at night time from the air cooling-air conditioning across from the hotel kitchen is very aggravating and irritating. It persists all night long and all day. Do not stay in room 555 as you will not get any sleep whatsoever. I assume all rooms facing the same way in that block have a problem. The night receptionist thought it was the sound of the sea and that it was beyond his control.

These opinions are those of HotelStreet visitors and not of HotelStreet.
