Review title: "Never Again"
Travel date: June 2008
Just got back from Benidorm. We go there every year and stayed in the Don Salva apartments this time. Never again. The apartment was dirty. Had to go and buy bleach to clean before we could use anything. Dirty cups in the cupboard. Don't think it had been cleaned since the last occupants.

There was a stag part directly above and a hen party next door - a nightmare. There is not a 24 hour reception as promised. Police had to be called because of rowdy drunks.

Long walk to anywhere. At the top of a hill. Long way from beach and clubs. The guy working in the bar/cafe was rude and abrupt as if he didn't like the British. Would not go to Don Salva again.

Review title: "Don Salva Apartments"
Travel date: March 2007

Have just come back from the Don Salva apartments. I stayed there for 11 nights with my four year old daughter. The apartments where OK although pretty basic. Beds and sofa were very uncomfortable but that was nothing compared to the noise level! We were on the 15th floor and I can tell you, at times, it felt like we where sitting on the main road outside! The traffic noise kept us awake all night every night. We were glad to return home for some sleep!

The staff where very nice and the bar area downstairs is always full with the local police who are based under the apartment blocks. The pool is far too small with nowhere to sit. These apartments are OK if you can cope with the constant noise of car horns and sirens every two seconds, but if, like me, you would like to sleep at night then please think twice about booking these apartments!

Review title: "Hotel Hell"
Travel date: October 2006
This hotel is not for anyone that does not like walking. We stayed there this October 2006 and it was so far away from the resort centre and the beaches and shops, we used taxis to get backwards and forwards and I'm fit. The hotel is at the top of a very steep hill which taxes an able bodied person.

The hotel is bordering on the average. The lifts are shaky and always breaking down and if you're on an upper floor could lead to problems. We got our towels changed once, the bedding was not changed the full time we were there and cleaning of the rooms is non existent. The only time the maids came to your room was after you left. A

Also, very close to the main police station and so all you hear all night is sirens going on. The hotel is right next to a dual carriageway which is the main road into and out of Benidorm, so you can imagine the noise. If you don't believe me, try it. You will see what I'm saying is right. So marks out of ten is one. This is one hotel I'd definitely give a wide berth to and I will never use again.

Review title: "Fantastic Value"
Travel date: June 2006
We are four lads aged between 29 and 31 and we've just returned (02/07/06) from our ten night stay in the Don Salva, Benidorm. After reading many reviews on this and other websites, I must admit that I was a little apprehensive about using this hotel. To clarify the situation, I would just like to submit a few facts:

1) The hotel is at the top end of a hill on the way out of town. Although it is not a very steep hill (20°-25°), it is a continuous up-hill climb from the beach and the resort centre.
2) The police station is adjoining the hotel and the dual carriageway directly in front is the main road into the resort centre. Hence you do hear a constant wail of police, ambulance or fire engine sirens or (if you're really lucky) all three together! This can be quite loud. However, it does tend to ease off on a night after 10/11 o'clock.
3) The pool is very small for this size apartment block. The apartments are spread over 20 floors with five rooms per floor and four people per room - you could easily end up with 400 people in the complex. The pool and sun-terrace is probably capable of holding a maximum of 50-60 people, so it can get very crowded.
4) There are three lifts, all of which are very temperamental and painfully slow. Two of the three had been stuck between floors while we were there. The stairs are bright, clean and secure. However, as we were staying on the 19th floor, we climbed them once and then decided to take our chances with the lifts after that!
5) The sheets and towels were changed three times during our 10 night stay. I think this is more than adequate. The beds were made every day, subject to us vacating the apartment at a reasonable hour.

Location wise, it's a five to ten minute walk to the 'Square' with all of its bars, clubs and restaurants.

All of the hotel staff are really friendly and helpful. You do tend to get a lot of police officers in the café, but they keep themselves to themselves and never bothered anyone when we were in.

Overall I think the Don Salva is excellent value for money. It doesn't claim to be five star and it isn't, but for clean, friendly, centrally located, great value accommodation I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Read the reports before I went. Was a bit worried but don't know why because it was great. So was the Don Salva. Staff were well friendly, rooms were clean and tidy.

If you're looking for somewhere good to eat, try ‘Tony Romas' on the front, just up from beach. Will definitely be back at Don Salva. Great place.

We were worried about what we would find after reading the reviews on these apartments, and we were bringing our five year old son on his first holiday abroad. We were very pleasantly surprised. We had a good clean spacious apartment on the third floor, so we had a limited view, but hey, who goes on holiday to stay in the apartment all day anyway.

There were also reports that the apartments were at the top of a steep hill, which was also exaggerated. Yes, there was an incline, but nothing that an overweight forty something with a bad back couldn't handle easily. Yes, it was noisy with traffic and emergency vehicles, but only during the day, never late at night. The fact that the police station was next door, I found to be comforting, and to see so many of them using the cafe at different times also made me feel happy and secure. We are planning our next trip in October, and hopefully it'll be back to these apartments.

The only down points and the reason I only gave the apartments 9/10, was that we had to take our own rubbish out, and the men in the cafe were so sullen and made you feel like you were in the way. Also, the only food you could get at the cafe at night was pizza. The supermarket on site was expensive, so I have deducted one point.

Review title: "Don Salva And Our Stay,"
Travel date: August 2005
We enjoyed our stay in Benidorm finding plenty to do. The apartments were ok. The one thing that dampened our stay was the lack of sleep we had for the two weeks that we were there. We were woken every night with sirens sounding, and then there was constant shouting and carrying on from the young that stayed in the building. This was done from outside the apartment on their return from a night out in the early hours of the morning. There was a constant flow of objects thrown from the balcony which included air beds, four counted one morning, also toilet rolls. Then there was the rude awakening of heavy objects hitting off the car port on the opposite building. This was very scary to be woken from a deep sleep at night. The above very much spoiled an otherwise lovely holiday.

Review title: "Don Salva Apartments; Beware"
Travel date: June 2005
The hotel location is very unpleasant partly due to being situated next to the police station and on the main arterial route to and from Benidorm, including hospitals and is sited at the top of a very steep avenue. Crossing a dual carriageway was not my idea of fun. The sirens from emergency vehicles at all hours of the night is most off putting.

The hotel itself is very basic and reminds me of a Spanish hotel 40 years ago. As well as the hotel being basic, in my experience it tended to attract a rather undesirable type of holidaymaker generally with yobbish behaviour the rule as opposed to the exception.

If you like 18-21 year olds vomiting over the pool balcony, drinking to excess and cursing and swearing loudly from other residents at the pool as part of normal conversation, then this is for you.

If you like virtually no maid service and carrying your rubbish to bins personally and no supply of soap or loo paper then this will appeal.

The hotel staff were friendly but palpably failed to control the behaviour of residents unless it denigrated into mayhem during the night.

The only plusses were the two roomed apartments were spacious enough for four adults and the apartments were reasonably close to the entertainment and promenade but not suitable for anyone with a walking disability.

Review title: "Just Fine!"
Travel date: June 2005
Have just returned yesterday. Was worried by previous review done on these apartments but there was no need to have been concerned. On arrival we were positioned on the 14th floor but due to a friend's nerves, we asked to be moved and were given the first floor immediately!

The apartment was large and the balcony huge. We had all the amenities that you expect with self catering. Three of us in apartment and there was space for all us. Lifts always working and the staff were polite and helpful. The pool was fine and shade does cover the pool at some time during the day but there is still plenty of space for sun worshippers to enjoy the weather!

The walk to the beach is 15 minutes and you pass all the main areas where the good bars, restaurants and the 'square' is. Would definately return!

We stayed for four days in a one bedroom second floor apartment. The hotel was hard to find as a tree completely concealed the sign! The apartment was adequate and clean but old fashioned furniture and tatty twels and bedspreads let it down.

The position was very convenient and central for entertainment, beach, old town and transport. There is a cafe and small supermarket on site and the staff were quite friendly and helpful. Although we were out of season there is a nice pool and terrace with plenty of space although the amount of sunbeds stacked up seemed too few for likely demand.

Overall it was acceptable quality and convenience for a reasonable price £247 for four days for two including flights) We decided to save £30 by not taking coach transfers from the airport and booked a car with Carjet for three days for £36 collected and returned to the airport - excellent value and service.

Travel date: October 2004
I have just returned from the Don Salva Apartments and they were nothing like we expected. We were all expecting rubbish after reading about them on the internet, but we were pleasantly suprised!!

They were clean and tidy with all three lifts working and the pool was a reasonable size and clean!

The staff were helpful and kind. We would definitely recommend these apartments. Eight girls stayed and we loved it!! Benidorm rules!!

These opinions are those of HotelStreet visitors and not of HotelStreet.
