Review title: "Awful Place"
Travel date: November 2008
Well, where to start? Place was awful - four round towers. My room was on the busy main road where you heard the traffic all night long, the bed squeaked badly every time you moved and the headboard was loose and would bang against the wall. Slot meter TV, two pans and two hobs for self catering. The fridge was the best thing in the apartments. The bathroom was dirty and the towels were changed every two days. The beds made every two days.

Staff were friendly but reception staff arrogant. The only thing good was the beach wasn't far and the centre was close. 'The Old Tavern' was a nice friendly place to go, as were all the bars there. In the 'Pink Lady' bar the food is good.

Watch out for the African women near the beach who won't leave you alone as they robbed me of 15 euros for a bracelet which they wrap around your wrist even though you don't want it and the touts who pester you to go into the bars there. There are loads and loads of them.

This place is for 18 to 25 year olds as it is their type of place. Extremely basic and not comfortable. No one would talk to you there, just look at you with disgust, but as for the area as a whole, it was clean and people friendly. I definitely will not be going back to the Los Salmones and don't think I'll go back to Gran Canaria again.

The apartments were very basic but clean. There was my partner, my 15 year old son and myself sharing the apartment but no bedding for my son. The staff were helpful and we were provided with extra bedding. The pool was big and there were sun loungers but you had to get your towels out early. We were all inclusive and the food wasn't too bad - a bit repetitve though.

The worst thing on the holiday was the noise at night. We stayed for seven nights and did not get one good night's sleep. People were shouting at the top of their voices and throwing bottles etc. over their balconies. They had no respect for other people staying there. Unfortunately we will not be going back to Los Salmones and I would definitely not recommend families with small children to go.

Review title: "I Have Been Back To Los Salmones On Many Occasions!"
Travel date: March 2008
I have stayed at Los Salmones on four or five occasions. The rooms are basic but what do you expect for the price you pay for these apartments? The maids keep them clean and it's only a place to sleep - who goes on holiday to sit in their room?

I can't comment on the food in the restaurant as having lived in Gran Canaria many years ago and been back for holidays on many occasions, I have learnt that the best way to stay is self catering. The food in resort is cheap enough and I have stayed in many places in Playa del Ingles and have not once experienced nice food in the half board/all inclusive hotels. I would recommend that you travel a bit further than the Irish centre for meals out though as these 'themed pubs' can be a lot dearer than restaurants on the beach or further into town. There are some nice restaurants in the Gran Chapperal (a short taxi ride away - approximately three euros) which are very reasonable. The 'Britannia' (although an English themed restaurant) is very reasonable. We paid about 30 euros for four of us (it was more like 60 when eating in the Irish centre). I would recommend the pubs in the Irish centre though. 'Mulligans' is very good (under the Green Field hotel) if you like a bit of a sing song and giggle and 'Patrick's' bar is very welcoming too. Be wary of bars that say happy hour and free shots if you come in as they normally charge you double for the pleasure!

All in all, Los Salmones is very basic but its a place to sleep and is probably the quietest hotel in the Aguila Roca (Irish centre) area. Most other hotels around there have the pleasure of noise from 'Life' (the nightclub) and all of the bars kicking out at 3 a.m. Believe me, I have stayed in most in the area.

Don't be put off - it's OK. But if you go self catering it would be worth hiring a kettle and toaster! Enjoy!

Review title: "Don't Go Here!"
Travel date: March 2008
Well, when me and my boyfriend arrived at Los Salmones, they gave us a key to our room. The key didn't work so a man had to come out and change the lock. When the door opened, the lights didn't work so the man had to change the lights. I looked around the room and the plug socket was hanging out of the wall and as I was putting my clothes in the cupboard, the wall was cracking and falling down. The bed legs were crooked as if it was going to collapse. I put my phone on charge and when the battery was full, I pulled the plug out and the whole socket came out of the wall. Towels only got changed once, the same as the bed sheets.

The pool area was okay but if you want a sun bed you have to get out there early to put a towel on one.

Food disgusting and looks like it's just been left there from the day before as the food is the same every day. Ice cream really good and that's all I ate. Breakfast outrageous - the eggs black and the toaster well, its not really a toaster you have to put it in there six times before it starts getting gold. I recommend the food by the bar - pizza and chips - proper nice.

Most staff helpful and polite. Entertainment at night, well, there isn't any really.

I recommend Los Salmones for a group of young people that like drinking as it is in walking distance form all the bars and clubs. But overall I think Los Salmones needs knocking down and starting again.

The apartments are basic but very clean. It is not suitable for young families as there is a party atmosphere all the time.

Night life is amazing. Irish Centre, Kasbah is just fantastic. All the big clubs you could want 'Pacha', 'Cream' 'China White'. Went into 'Zig Zag' - funniest night ever.

Don't listen to any one slating the Los Salmones Apartments or resort. It is the greatest ever. Can't wait to go back next year. Miss the people.

Where do I begin? Do not listen to any bad reviews! Los Salmones is great. Big hotel, big pool, very lively, not suitable for small kids.

Rooms a bit small for four, but it was OK. Don't make too much noise though at night. We got a written warning! Ha ha!

The 'Kasbah' is really great. We loved 'Fantasy Island' to start the night about 11, then 'China White' and 'Zig Zag' then to 'Cream'.

Had a wicked holiday - eight Welsh girlies! Would love to go back! Be careful of illegal reps - they rip you off big time!

Review title: "Dont Eat The Food !"
Travel date: April 2007
My husband and I have just got back from spending one week in these apartments. We expected it to be noisy and weren't disappointed - even people fighting in the lifts on our first night. This continued throughout the rest of the week, so we didn't notice the motorway noise. We went half board and wished we hadn't - the food was dreadful. They served up the goulash three nights running and the choices were very limited. Breakfast was no better, and even though you were on holiday, you were expected to clear up your plates etc. Isn't that why you go on holiday? Out of the seven nights we stayed, we ate in only the once and chose to sample the local restaurants instead. The towels were not changed as specified, although the beds were made.

On a positive note - there was no fighting for sun beds, as plenty of those and the pool was fine, and the resort quiet, probably down to no 18-30s there yet! I recommend the anti stress pool massage for 20 euros, very relaxing and lasted nearly one hour. The taxis were cheap and everyone seemed friendly.

We ate in the 'Guarapo 2' (turn right outside the resort and keep going. It's on the right at a large roundabout). The paella was fantastic and the atmosphere very relaxed. Also 'Murphy's' bar was good for a few beers and had live bands. Would we stay at this resort again? No!

We are a couple of very young 'old uns'! OK, closer to 60 than 50! The Los Salmones has a good location. Great attentive bar staff. The reception staff really appreciate you trying to speak the lingo and have great fun helping you. The breakfast has to bought just down the road to the left of the base.

Night life is a few bars over the road with great music (modern pop) - told you we were young!

Go with the realisation that this is Spain and not Britain, and enjoy yourselves.

Review title: "Los Salmones Apartments Highly Recommended"
Travel date: January 2007
Just got back from staying in Los Salmones for a week. Found the apartments fab! Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Beds were made daily and towels were changed every other day. We stayed self catering. Apartments include a double hob (frying pan, cups, plates etc). Other items such as kettles and toasters need to be hired from reception - the only fault I have!

Although apartments are situated by main road, the noise is not something to make you turn away. Beach is literally a five minute walk away, night life the same!

Recommend the Kasbah centre for night entertainment; just be warned about PAs dragging you in. Resort of Playa del Ingles in excellent. Loads to do. Highly recommend to everyone, but I would say younger people in summer as it is used as an 18-30 resort! Would definitely return!

Ok, so these are just above average for the rating, but we found them very clean and tidy and well maintained. Yes, they are close to the roads but also to the huge amounts of shops, bars, restaurants etc, all of which are not right outside - they are half a block away so not that noisy for this time of the year.

Taxis are so cheap. Recommend to use one even if only for three or four blocks away. The airport is 25 kilometres away and taxi cost is 20-25 euros. Maspalomas fare – five to six euros, Puerto Rico - 25-euros or by bus –seven euros return for two.

Walk straight out the complex and right in a vast amount of shops (Yumbo centre), Kasbah, metro or head straight out one block to promenade. Turn right along promenade, down steps (steep) and great beach front bars and restaurants, especially the one near the main roundabout. Great Spanish entertainment.

Weather was dry sunny and 20-2 centigrade. Perfect. PS Don't forget camel rides at Maspalomas – ten euros each. Branded drinks are not that cheap. Shop around. Would not go in summer months as it's only for 18-30s but they would have a great time.

Travel date: July 2006
I stayed at this hotel on an 18-30's holiday and it is perfect. Close to everything, has a great pool, easy internet access and very clean. It can be noisy though due to being close to a main road, but it was bearable (granted, I was to wasted every night to even notice cars). The hotel has a great location for the beach, shops, places to eat and the night life.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. Everyone is nice and there is a real chilled, relaxed feel to the whole place. But it is mainly used by 18-30 holiday makers so most of the residents are young and looking for a good time. There is some noise generated by them at night but nothing stupid. I definitely recommend this hotel for everyone.

If you want to be kept awake all night by traffic, this is the place for you. What the brochures do not tell you is that the four round towers are situated very close to a very busy, 24 hours a day main road, with a motorway beyond that, so if you want a relaxing holiday, you can forget it here, if you get one of the apartments on the roadside.

As a self catering guest, the kitchen facilities are miserable. Toasters have to be hired at €10 per week (!), as do coffee machines. The small TV has a slot meter on the side. The beds have soft mattresses.

Pool tables scruffy, needing maintenance Generally very poor. Staff friendly enough. Entertainment, the usual fare for this type of place, best avoided.

I am just home from Gran Canaria. I stayed in the Los Salmones. I thought the apartments were great. My room was very clean and had everything in it that myself and my partner required. The staff were all very friendly and welcomed you to the complex.

The bar is very nice to sit and have a drink in and also it was right beside the pool which was handy. I thought the pool was very clean and also nice to have a swim in.

The apartments were well situated beside everywhere and you weren't short of going somewhere for something to eat. Overall myself and my partner had a great time in these apartments and would definitely recommend it and I would also go back to them.

Travel date: November 2005
These apartments are quite well located. The room facilities for self catering are very basic with very little utensils. When we were there, the apartments were nearly all full and there was very little noise (not that we were there most of the evenings).

Now to the cleanliness and room servicing - or total lack of it. The towels were changed twice a week and the sheets were eventually changed on the eleventh day after complaining to reception. This with exceptional temperatures for this time of year - 32 - 36 degrees during the day, so showers at least twice a day, night temperatures of 20 - 25 degrees, so heavy sweating during the night!!!!.

If these apartments drastically improved their housekeeping services then this would be an ideal location and worth the money. It annoys me that when we go abroad and some companies think that anything will do. Yet tourists coming to the UK expect (and deserve) a high quality and facilities and service even from the most basic of service providers.

Me and six friends stayed in the apartments last summer. We found it absolutely fantastic and we had the time of our lives. Our beds got changed every other day, we had more than enough towels to go round and as for all these apparent creepy crawlies everybody is moaning about, we didn't see one! I'm 19 years old and my six girls are of the same age, (18/19). I'd advise anyone to go!

Travel date: July 2005
Me and two mates stayed at Los Solmones in July of '05. The apartment was crawling with cockroaches and very small! We paid for three beds only to find two of us sharing a single bed for the duration of the holiday, not very pleasant when you have to sleep in that heat!! We had two towels, to share amongst the three of us, that weren't changed once. We had to hand wash them ourselves every night. The bed linen was also left for us to clean!

The hotel never sleeps, it's full of drunken little 18 year olds off their heads chanting ?oooh, oooh' to one another up and down the staircase!

The Irish centre and Kasbah are a stones throw away which was ok, but after the first few nights, it's easy to get sick of doing the same things! The pool was amazing though, really big, although it was stinking! There are some great restaurants about and the bar staff etc, are really friendly! But be warned....by the end of your holiday you won't be able to look at a bottle of peach schnapps the same way!!!

I recently stayed at the Los Salmones Apartments with eight girls. We had a brilliant holiday! We all found the apartments very clean, and there wasn't any rubbish around at all!

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. When we checked in we had been given two rooms very near each other but one room was in a different block. We asked the reception if they would be able to put our friends near us in the same block and sure enough they did it for us the next day!

The apartments are situated in a good position, very close to the Irish Bar and Kasbah is in walking distance!

We were self catering which we were pleased about. There are loads of restaurants around that served nice food and were all really cheap! We did eat at Los Salmones restaurant one night. It was a buffet, but I wouldn't really recommend going half board!

The apartments have a bird cage with some really pretty little budgies! There are also a few cockroaches around, but I think that is to be expected abroad. BUT it really was so clean, we were pleasantly surprised, considering it is only rated two stars!

Review title: "Los Salmones...Tut, Tut"
Travel date: October 2003
I went in October 2003. I have a few gripes about the place, for example, I found the staff rude and agressive. The maid was rude and didn't knock before entering your apartment. The main owner guy spoke hardly a word of English.

The main part of what disgusts me about this place is that while we were staying there, workmen came in and fitted smoke detectors in our rooms while we were still sleeping in the beds. One of my party awoke to being covered in rubble from the ceiling.

The other thing I did not like was the fact that the apartments were built in cylinder like shapes, and at the top of the roof was a hole. This hole was meant for a tree to grow through, but when we were there, the tree was a meer sapling and when it rained it soaked the tile flooring on the stairs and made it quite hard to walk on there with out slipping, especially if you've just come home from a booze up.

The good thing about this resort is its location, not very far from the beach at all. As you walk out the main doors, on your left is a road of pubs and bars, on your right is miniture golf. If you carry down to the next t-junction, you have got your restaurants on your right and your shops on the left. Straight ahead is the beach!! Couldn't have asked for a better location really, just a pity about the staff.

These opinions are those of HotelStreet visitors and not of HotelStreet.
