"Hmm - Been To Slightly Livlier Places"
Travel date:
December 2007
Stayed in Caleta Gardens, room 133, from the 19th to the 26th December 2007.
On arrival the whole area of Caleta de Fuste was flooded as it had rained heavily. The hotel floor was very wet and slippery and most of the apartments' electricity had tripped due to water.
Anyway, was allocated room 133 which slept 3 if required. Everything there for self catering purposes including kettle, toaster, cutlery, plates, microwave, cooker, fridge etc, so really good in that sense. Apartments are cleaned four times a week, including fresh towels. TV in room showed some English channels but you will be charged to watch it - 12 euros and five euros for deposit for the remote control. Safes are in room, again chargeable per week but bolted down and very secure.
Main entrance door to apartment was very secure, no access from outside unless with key but the patio door in this room was very dodgy - if you pushed the fixed frame outwards you were able to slide it open whilst it was supposedly locked, so be very aware of this!
Entertainment in the hotel is quite good actually. Tony is brill with the kids but felt as if the hotel could've done a lot more for adults and Xmas rather than play dated music. Hotel does have a happy hour (two for one) from 20:30 to 21:30 strictly. Pint of local beer 3.40, local spirits 3.40, Blue WKD 3.90, Smirnoff 4.50 so a bit of advice, go out of hotel cross over road and go into the 'Netto' supermarket, buy 200 'Progress' cigarettes (like Richmond KS) for 5.89, yes 5.89 and buy your drink in there too. Have a few drinks before attempting the entertainment!
Jacuzzi is solar powered/heated and absolutely freezing despite saying that water temp is between 30-35 degrees on the sign. Sauna is broken, pool is freezing and I'm not kidding - it takes a lot of getting used too!
Avoid 'Il Patio' restaurant (out of main door of hotel, turn right and next to 'The Steakhouse', which is superb) for a meal. Service is a shambles, food is terrible and their 'couldn't care less' attitude leaves a lot to be desired!
Chinese buffet opposite Caleta Gardens is really nice and 8.80 per person eat all you can. Don't eat at 'Slowboat II' (out of main hotel door and turn left) - its rank! 'Scotch Corner' does a fab breakfast (Sandra, you're a star cook by the way) although a little expensive, it's still worth it considering you can get full breakfast for 3.50 down in the shopping complex at '60's Bar' two minutes walk from 'Scotch Corner'. 'Flower Of Scotland' bar is a good night out, late night burger at 'Last Chance, downstairs from 'Flower Of Scotland'. 'The Dome', 'Slap & Tickle', 'Sean O'G's', are all no bad nights out but don't expect the clubbing night life as it doesn't happen in Caleta de Fuste.
Beautiful man made beach (about ten minutes walk from hotel) but beware beacuse the folk hiring out the sun loungers will try to rip you off to the tune of six euros! My advice, buy a cheap beach towel and enjoy the sand. Water is really nice and clean too.
Summing it all up, was a good holiday none the less, but quite limited as to what you can do if you don't have kids. It's a kid friendly/family resort.
Make sure you hit the market. Haggle for the watches because they will try 40+ for just one. I got two Rolexes for 25. Don't let them hit you with the big price, make your offer, be very firm and walk away if needed (Rolex, Gucci, Rado, Bretling, Playboy) and handbags. I got one for someone for 15. They will try to get 30+ for one if you aren't firm in your offer.

"Caleta Garden Apartments Superb"
Travel date:
July 2007
Having visited Fuerteventura three times a year for some five years now, I have stayed in many apartments during that time. I can honestly say that the Caleta Gardens certainly rate as one of the finest around in my opinion.
The rooms were very comfortable and clean, with the cleaners coming in regularly. The bar area is generous in size, although the site entertainment could be slightly better than it was during my stay. With a 24 hour reception, there were never any problems that could not be sorted out straight away.
And the good news for those, like me, who enjoy the night life - you are only 30 seconds away from the town centre.
