I went with my two sisters and a friend. We had an amazing time at the Festival village. I thought the staff and reps were amazing. The staff were very chatty and friendly and they were very funny also. Entertainment was fantastic and very enjoyable. Lots of facilities to keep you entertained without even leaving the hotel.
We walked to La Pineda every day and visited the beach. Salou was very good and we never got bored. Everything is at hand and the hotel is well situated.

Definitely awful. Rooms are never mopped. You get two toilet rolls on arrival and if you run out before the cleaner is due, tough, you need to provide your own. You are not allowed to book in before 3 p.m.
Cap Salou is where the Festival Village hotel is situated and during the season, the bus takes 20-30 minutes to get to Salou. You cannot walk to Salou unless you are extremely fit. Very good bus service from outside the hotel. You can get the bus straight to PortAventura for example.
Would recommend Tarragona for shopping. For buses to Barcelona, get tickets from the red kiosk on the road as you turn left out of the hotel and about 500 metres down the road.
Food is dreadful - usual cooked breakfast and cereals on offer and very little else. Tried the traditional Spanish ham and cheese one morning - the cheapest rubbish going. If you a veggie, you will be lucky to find anything to eat. Evening meals are pretty awful as well. Also, we found out by accident into our fourth day that you could get a free drink with your evening meal. You have to ask at the bar. If you eat after 8 p.m., be prepared to be deafened by the entertainment as the eating area doubles up as the bar area in the evening.
There is very little to see in the immediate locality of the hotel. The nearest shops are in La Pineda. You can walk there as it is downhill but would recommend the bus back.
Cambrils is worth visiting, but the market is quite far out of town. The market in La Pineda is behind the Aquapolis water park.
You do get a fridge and kettle in the rooms so that is a plus. If you want a safe, you have to go back one hour after registering. You will be asked for a deposit of 90 euros or £60. Supposedly on the day of check out you need to check out an hour beforehand before you get it back. We left early morning and we were given our deposit back straight away. If you want a room on the day you book out, the cost is 80 euros.
If you like the sort of hotel where you just drink and are happy to go nowhere, this hotel is fine. I would certainly not recommend it. The food menu is on a weekly basis so if you are there for a fortnight, you will end up getting the same meals and while I remember, the puddings were lousy as well.

I definitely agree with all of the bad reviews! This holiday was the worst my family has ever had! We feel totally mislead by First Choice travel agents as this complex was nothing like they described to us.
For starters, the apartments are disgustingly dirty and we spent two hours making it habitable when we got there. Secondly, the mattress was stained with blood. The following morning, we complained to one of the First Choice reps about the mattress and they said they would sort it out and the mattress would be changed within a few hours. This didn't happen as they only turned it over.
Further complaints are: Air conditioning was leaking. We complained about this, however, nothing was done.
Blood was found on the floor. Obviously cleaners didn't clean this, in fact, only God knows when those floors were cleaned as there was sand and dust all over.
Staff were unpleasant, especially one of the cleaners who acted very inappropriately towards the kids .
There were big holes around plug sockets, which were very dangerous as the air conditioning was leaking.
There was a light hanging off the wall in the kids' room.
The noise in the hotel was terrible, i.e., when one buzzer went off it sounded like the whole block of buzzers were going off.
The smell of the apartment made me sick it was so bad. Also from our balcony we had a perfect view of the bins, much to our delight also on two occasions we saw a man acting very inappropriately while two little boys were playing. Myself and my daughter then went to complain. No action was taken and the receptionist laughed and made a joke of the matter.
Lastly, if you book with the travel agents, don't buy the PortAventura tickets - it's a con. I was told that with the tickets I bought we would be able to access the theme park or the aquatic park, however, this was all a lie and we could only access the theme park and even when we did, we had to queue at least two hours for one ride. In the end, my family decided to give a set of tickets away and we went to Aquapolis which was great and if you wanted to, you could go back there within four days for eight euros which was good.
Overall I would not recommend the Festival Village to anyone and if I could give it a zero I would. Also, I think that First Choice should take the Festival Village out of their brochure. If I wanted a holiday from hell I would have stayed in Britain and got flooded out!

A fantastic family holiday. Our best ever! Reception staff very welcoming and helpful. We upgraded from drinks to all inclusive and well worth it. Rooms clean and spacious, with fab air-con at no extra cost!
Family (four adults, three kids of nine, nine and 11) too old for kids' club but we didn't need it as Gav, Hannah and Julie kept us all entertained day and night. Games in the pool got everyone chatting to one another, which led to evening games when everyone joined in and a super time had by all!
Excellent location for walking to La Pineda or Salou and fab bus service to go further.
A few days before we left an unsavoury lot turned up who didn't put their rubbish in the bins around the pool area and it soon looked shabby. They didn't pick up their dropped chips either (so we did), so again the people can make a difference. It didn't spoil our holiday, just made us more vigilant and it wont stop us returning.

Just back from the Festival Village and without a shadow of a doubt, the most disappointing holiday experience I've had in holidaying abroad. On arrival, a very bitter recepionist told me to go away and come back at 3 p.m. We arrived at 12.30 p.m.
On arrival, our first impression was one of disappointment. The front of the hotel is very shabby, full of weeds and badly in need of a good paint job. Room was filthy - floors and walls and holes in doors and shower. The whole apartment had it's floors washed daily thanks to the leaking shower - probably the first time the floors had been washed in months. Weeds were growing on the balcony, all areas around the hotel - pool, playground, outside bar etc. were all dirty. Previous guests' rubbish and dirty towels were all left in the apartment. The floors hadn't been washed or swept. We complained to the rep who advised she would have a cleaner sent straight away. We arrived on Wednesday and the cleaner arrived on Sunday.
Salou itself is lovely - easily accessible by bus which stops outside the hotel every ten minutes. My favourite part of the holiday was leaving the hotel!
The photos on the net and in the holiday brochures are very inaccurate. The pool area is very small, plenty of broken loungers, a manhole in the middle of the pool area that caused a stench on warm days.
I could go on forever as to why this was such a terrible holiday, in a filthy environment but I think you get the picture by now. I would not recommend this place to anyone and if it was possible to give a zero, I would.

Bit worried due to bad reviews before we went so had a very pleasant surprise on arrival.
Definitely not a place for singles or couples without kids as it's very family orientated which suited us down to the ground.
In our opinion: Check in great, staff great, room great, food great (all inclusive), entertainment great for kids (even our two year old) and adults (Gavin made entertainment for us because he is a funny and lovely guy) and weather great except one day (so took coach to Barcelona). La Pineda is a ten minute walk to the left, Salou is a 20 minute walk to right and both are very accessible with lovely beaches. We didn't even use buses as enjoyed the walk with buggy.
Only reason we didn't give ten out of ten was walls a little thin and shower not super but hey, not enough to ruin a great holiday.
We would definitely go back - met some lovely Welsh, English, Irish, Scottish and Northern Irish people as well. Thank you very much Festival Village.

Just back from the Festival Village hotel with my mum and kids aged 13 and six. On arrival, checked in no problem, Went self catering but upgraded to all inclusive on arrival as it was really cheap. 100 euros for adults and 50 for kids. So eat and drink much as you like.
The weather wasn't the best and it rained a few days but due to the entertainment in hotel, kids didn't mind.
Rooms very spacious and basic as is the hotel but for what we paid for it was a very cheap and good holiday!
Cap Salou is very quiet but catch bus outside hotel into Salou for two euros. Buses come every ten minutes.

"Basic But Good!"

March 2008
Not the best holiday we've been on but certainly not the worst. The holiday for us was going to be simply a self catering base for using the PortAventura theme park but quickly turned into an all inclusive for us for a few reasons.
Cap Salou was very quiet and noticeably 'shut' with the odd local bar open for 'local' business. Salou is either a 20-30 minute walk away or ten minutes by very regular buses that stop right outside the hotel.
You are offered a number of upgrades on arrival - All inclusive adult 96 euros, teenager 75 euros and child 56 euros per person per week. There's also an upgrade for drinks only option and half board separately that were also ridiculously cheap compared to the First Choice prices. We took the all inclusive upgrade and glad we did considering the distance we would have had to travel to Salou and the prices at the bars and restaurants when you get there.
We were in 'C' block in a six person apartment right on the swimming pool doorstep. Basic, standard but clean and adequate for our needs. Everything supplied should we have wanted to do the self catering option - kettle, cutlery utensils etc. There's been talk of dirty floors on previous reviews - definitely not when we were there. Huge two bedroom apartment with separate dining, living and kitchen areas with two bathrooms.
The advertised satellite TV is a few channels in Spanish only in the rooms (English channels available in the bar/smoking area but very limited to Sky News and ITV1). I'd consider taking a portable DVD player to keep the kids happy if that's what they like.
Fresh towels and toilet rolls daily but that's it. Room swept and mopped through by cleaning staff twice during our seven day stay. Plenty of hot water and no complaints about the accommodation. That's us though! From other families' experiences I strongly suggest you check your room for damage, equipment etc and report it to make sure you get that 90 euros deposit back!
The apartments have a patio area that provides a brilliant sunbathing trap from about 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. whilst we were there (28/03/08 to 04/04/08). It rained once at night during the whole week and we were blessed with 20-25 degrees Celsius sunny weather every day.
The pool - some braved it, mainly the kids. Very cold. Extremely small! Someone must have messed with the advertised pictures of the pool or they are the artist's impression because it looks nothing the size it really is. Pool area used well by sunbathers whilst we were there. Very clean and well maintained area but again there will not be enough sun beds etc in full season - there is not the space.
Reception area clean and spacious. Staff polite and very helpful to us, including Phil the First Choice rep who was there every day to assist and answer any questions. Basic shop - quite pricey if you are doing the self catering. I did not see any hypermercados in Salou either, where you would get the locally priced necessities for your stay.
The dining area looked like a works canteen but was kept clean and kept tidy by the regular bar/dining staff Cecilia, Melba and Junior supervised by the comically grumpy 'Luis'. Again full season it will be a nightmare with the space available! Breakfast is 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Cereals, fruit, pastries, toast and the full English. I enjoyed the breakfast but there was a mishap with the sausages one morning where they were still frozen in the middle!
Lunch and snacks during the day - pizza, chips, fruit, ice cream etc. Basic but loads of it cooked fresh on request, not like some all inclusives where it sits under hot lamps all day being eaten by flies!
Dinner was 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Again basic but adequate. Nothing for vegetarians except chips and salad! There was enough variety for me for the week but if you are a picky eater who likes your food it might not be for you. Usually pasta, chicken, fish, pork, burgers etc and some nights were themed with Mexican dishes, curries etc. If you are thinking of upgrading and don't know, it might be worth paying for dinner the first night (nine euros 70 per person) then deciding. There were some other guests disappointed with the dinners whilst they were there but if you've done the five star all inclusives available elsewhere, you will be. It's very basic. My kids 15, nine, seven and one loved the food and stuffed themselves full every night!
The bar/dining staff do appear at first impressions to be a bit grumpy and uninterested but they are not English speaking stars and we shouldn't expect them to be. They like a chat and a laugh if you make the effort and kept me well supplied with litres of milk every day for the baby (which they didn't have to.)
The all inclusive system is a bit of sham and open to abuse. Whether you go for drinks only, half board or all inclusive you all get the standard red wrist band. In effect, some were upgrading to drinks only and then sneaking in for dinner unchecked. Wish I'd thought of it first! But a couple were caught out midweek and there subsequently seemed to be a few more spaces in the dining hall on an evening.
Entertainment - again quite impressed. Going out of season I didn't expect any. Kids' clubs during the day well run signing them in and out etc. Reps were brilliant with them. On an evening, mainly done by Cassie, standard quiz, mini disco (yes 'King Caratacus' being one of them every night!) a kids' game, bingo (which is a bit of a rip off - six euros a ticket for prizes of 20 euros - where's the rest of our money going?!) then the same old Med tat shows of Mr Salou, Miss Salou, Mr and Mrs Salou etc etc, karaoke, hypnotist (very, very good night!). There's no pressure to get involved but it only works if you do (as usual). Five pool tables, air hockey and a couple of arcade games with numerous euro grabbing machines (Dad - can I have a euro, dad can I have a euro?!)
Smokers - not in the main bar, pool table area, dining area or reception but basically anywhere else is fine. Cigarette machine in the main area.
A very good holiday at a stupidly low price. Whilst we were there all the kids were brilliant and all got on well. All were very well behaved and had manners of angels. No nightmare holiday bullies - we've all seen them before! All the guests were so friendly which made for a brilliant atmosphere and email addresses were exchanged with those that made our very short stay even better.
Would we go again ? Yes, at the same price out of season. There is no way I'd go to the Festival Village hotel in full season because I can see the potential for a number of problems regarding space. We made six visits to the theme park in the week which was the main reason for the holiday. Buses every 30 minutes to the park which is about 20 minutes on the bus or land train. Bus is one euro 95 per person to PortAventura.

The only thing I did not like the noise levels of other people in surrounding apartments, especially at night. It is not sound proof at all i.e too hollow and more signs are required to tell people to be quiet with their family.
But the children loved the entertainment every evening. Meal and meal times - good. Reception staff a bit lax. Restaurant staff - excellent. Hotel management overall - good.

The room was clean and spacious. The food was alright but it was theme food and not a lot of choice. We had to wait nearly two hours for our room to be ready. The pool was a joke. You could not see it from the hotel. It was tiny and always in the shade.
The games room was OK. The children's time at night was poor. In one game, kids had to ask the bar man for a pint of beer, ask people for cigarettes, get an adult to give a sock and put it over the glass of beer. Then the adult had to drink it.
The Festival Village hotel is in the middle of nowhere and there is nothing in Cap Salou. I would not recommend families to go there. We are a family of five and the children where bored.

Was scared after reading reviews, but everything was even better than the best reviews. Lots of room in the family apartment in the main building, maids three times a week, nice and quiet so you slept easily and plenty of entertainment for all ages - you can take part or just laugh at everyone else. The reps were very good, especially Dan and the pool was a fine size and very clean.
I thought we were going to be at the top of a steep hill, but it was nothing like that, it was an ideal situation. La Pineda and Salou were all in walking distance. You get buses all the time just outside the hotel to Cambrils and PortAventura. Would recommend the cruise at Cambrils - it's a three hour cruise and a free bar for the whole journey. Neu Camp and the dancing fountains excursion in Barcelona were really good too but go with the 'Plana' bus company as they do everything the same as your hotel except it's half the price.
We ate out most times as we like to try different places but when we did eat in the hotel, it was very good. Don't buy a two week pass to PortAventura as five days is all you need. Water parks were really good, Aquapolis one was better though. We thought the food prices would be very dear in PortAventura but they were not - they were the same as mostly everywhere else. We thought the queues for the rides would be long, but most were about fifteen minutes.
Thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at the Festival Village. Met some really nice people. Would recommend here.

The pool was a bit small, but as it was May, it was not an issue for us, though I suspect it would be heaving in summer.
The hotel is just outside La Pineda and is a short bus ride from Salou, Tarragona, and PortAventura. The buses run from outside every few minutes. This is an ideal base if you don't want to be in the thick of it all. It is lovely and quiet, but only a short walk or bus ride from all the action.
We found all staff very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely go again and have recommended it to all our friends.

I surprised my partner by booking a holiday to Salou. It was the first time we had been to this resort so we did not know what to expect. When I had booked the holiday, we were supposed to be in the Villa Marina Club Hotel but when we arrived at this hotel, the lady at reception was not very helpful as she tried to tell us about a problem with the rooms and they had to send us to another hotel. I later found that they had double booked all of the rooms as the Festival Village was full of people who had booked Villa Marina.
The apartments were massive. We were happy with this hotel. As we were all inclusive everything was free.
The hotel was due to close in two weeks from when we were there. It showed because they ran out of the bottles of San Miguel and the draft San Miguel was tasting a little stale.
The entertainment was good but they needed to do more for children. The Elvis impersonator was excellent, the best we have ever seen. Also Casie, who was part of the entertainment team, who also sang, was brilliant. We bought one of her CDs but when we got it home it didn't work.
Overall the holiday was very good but the hotel was a bit far from everything. We are definitely going back to Salou next October but we will find a hotel a little closer to the centre, not that there were any problems with this hotel.

"Everything Was Fine Until We Got Burgled!"

To be honest, I'd read a lot of bad reviews about this hotel, but I always believe in having an open mind. I've stayed in a range of different accommodations around the world and as long as the hotel is clean, safe and has a pool, I'm satisfied.
Everything was pretty good in the hotel and our room. We were kept an hour waiting when we arrived at the hotel to be told our room ‘wasn't ready', which was rather annoying, but hey, we were on holiday!
We did a lot of excursions in the first few days of the holiday as we planned to upgrade to all inclusive for the remainder of our stay. This costs only 15 euros a day, which was great value for money. Thank heavens we did upgrade to AI as on the fourth night we were there, we decided to check out the evening entertainment in the hotel. When we arrived back to our room, we had been burgled! All value items had been stolen, e.g cameras, jewellery, money, flight tickets, driving license, bank cards and even clothes!
Obviously we were very annoyed and scared (being a group of just four girls aged 21 and under). What made us most angry was the way the hotel handled this. We were the third burglary that week, so you think the hotel would take some responsibility (especially as the burglars broke in via the bedroom windows which weren't secure with a lock, even though we'd asked the hotel three times that day to ensure they were installed with bolts). We even complained to the manageress. She didn't even apologise, she didn't accept any responsibility and said she couldn't help us in anyway! We were given no money to help us out for the rest of the holiday,
Another factor that annoyed us was we were moved from our original two bedroom apartment to a one bedroom. This meant four of us were sharing two single beds!
If you're travelling here with children, please be very cautious! We spoke to a lot of families there and they all seemed really uneasy and worried. This is no way to spend a holiday! So be warned if you're going to the Festival Village. Don't take anything too valuable and be on your guard!

Myself, my husband and three kids (9,10 and 14) went on holiday for a week last year. Bit dissapointed with the room at first, but to be fair it was ok. Clean and spacious. The kids had to sleep on sofas in the living area which was ok.
We walked to La Pineda which was a lovely place. Nice water park and lovely beach. The majority of locals were friendly.
The food at the apartments was ok. A buffet breakfast cost six euros for adults and three euros for kids. If you're a good eater, its value for money.
The staff were friendly and the first choice reps very helpful.
Salou was a taxi ride away and cost eight euros. The theme park and water park are more than superb. As a family we can't wait to visit them again. I think young or old (of which I'm in between, you know, forty in the mirror twenty in the mind) Salou and Cap Salou are both lovely places to visit. I will say with confidence that for the same money a family can visit Benidorm though in my opinion (just spent three days there). Salou is the best place for families.
PS. I'm very fussy about cleanliness and food and didn't have much to complain about(much to the shock of my hubby and kids). Well done, Festival Village.
These opinions are those of HotelStreet visitors and not of HotelStreet.
