"Grand Atmosphere!"

Big city stress flies out the window as you take in the quietude of the majestic mountain side and learn to relax again after the terribly foul weather of northern Europe. Sunshine, mountain walks, horse riding, archery (expertly taught by the affable Jordi), hydro speed and rafting in wild white-water streams - it all worked towards providing a full and soul-recuperating holiday away from Spain's clichéd coastal resorts.
Sports assistants Pedro and David were a genuine pleasure as they not only provided genial company and unobtrusive guidance, they are also vastly amusing with their stand-up comedy act full of witty repartee in speedy Gonzalez-type English. The ladies at reception (Sandra and Nuria) and dining-hall (Bolivian Teresa and a charming Thai superwoman) are hospitable and endearing. Jazz-loving manager Rafa presides over things with crisp Catalan désinvolture and rigour.
The Solineu Sport hotel, overall, is neat and effective in its simplicity, with good cuisine and adequate facilities (good movies at night). In winter it must be very busy, in summer it has everything a northerner needs to fully recuperate from overripe city life, including temperatures in between 20 and 30°C.
Best bit (keep it for the end) is the deep ravine complete with spectacular waterfalls as you descend the mountain holding the catholic shrine of Nuria after your picturesque ride up in a rickety train. Never felt like a pilgrim in my life, but this came dangerously close! A genuine high for a Fleming from the flatlands.
Ask for room 710: it offers you a magnificent view of the slopes. Peace in the Pyrenees.
