"Some Good Points, But Not All"

The Los Zocos Club Resort has a good location (near nice sandy beaches, small shops etc), very nice layout with central pools, nicely landscaped and good facilities overall (sports, laundry and reception). Excellent kids' clubs with fantastic staff - one of the most notable points here.
The not so good. They gave us the wrong room type initially. Everything costs extra, extra, extra (room safe - 38 euros for two weeks including ten euro deposit). Don't go all inclusive. We didn't, thank goodness, but our friends regretted it. Not that the food is poor, but there is a far better range of alternatives for every budget within walking distance, so why stick to just one outlet?
The one week hire car was well worth it. We would have become bored here for the full two weeks. The SunStart excursions were very expensive and not well organised in our experience. Not worth it.
Lanzarote has some great places (Playa Blanca, Papagayo beaches, Porto Carmen, Ancient castle inland, special gardens in north) but it is still a very baron volcanic rock with little vegetation. We preferred Tenerife as we felt it had more to offer at better prices.

"Los Zocos"
Travel date:
October 2007
Just been reading some of the reviews so be it late, I thought I would add mine as I found the reviews very helpful upon booking our holiday.
Can't really fault the Los Zocos. When we stayed in October 2007, it had been through its refurbishment and it was great. We stayed self catering but we had meals at the hotel five or six times during our week's stay. There was a vast selection from traditional English meals to Chinese and Italian and it was all cooked to a high standard. When we stayed, the two restaurants at the resort had lager on tap and you just helped yourself. It was all inclusive in the price.
The whole place was very clean with regularly laundry service. The staff were friendly and there was no noise of a night time. A blessing for myself, wife and two boys who sometimes went to bed at 22:30 due to the busy day.
Costa Teguise as a resort is, or was, quiet in October but all the shops are still open and there are loads of restaurants and shops to take advantage of if you are self catering. The old town of Teguise is worth an excursion and you can pick up some reasonably priced leather goods. The beaches and waters are very clean, safe and it's not too windy.
If I must be critical, it would be that there was no air conditioning in our room and although we didn't spend much time there during the day when temperatures reached 33 degrees, it would still have been nice to have it at the night time.
It was the holiday that we, as a family, needed. Not too much hustle and bustle and time to relax without any yobbish culture around us. Definitely go again but as stated, no where as green as Tenerife.

Myself and my family travelled August 2007 and had a great time at the Los Zocos Club Resort Apartments. The apartments had just been through a major refurbishment and so they were just fab.
Food, there was enough for everybody's taste and lots of variety. Pools both sides of the apartments so no fighting for sunbeds. Great time had by all!

What a great holiday my granddaughter and myself had at Los Zocos. We stayed in block (1) where it has been refurnished and apartment was clean modern and comfortable. Cleaners came every day to us and were friendly, as was all the staff.
Food here is plentiful, couldn't fault it at all and restaurant and everything was so clean and the food looked appetising. The animation team was great, they work so hard. The long hours they put into making your holiday great. This is a great place if you have small children, the animation team take care of them, amusing them all day but for children from about 11 upwards it is a bit boring. Nevertheless, we had a great holiday.

Los Zocos is very well located and the only fault I could have had was that the refurbishment work was going on whilst we were there, but even then, didn't hear anything.
Staff and restaurants are great, facilities are well kept and the whole place was very tidy. Just be careful, pool can be bit cold first thing in the morning!
Local area very good - variety of bars, restaurants and shops just over the road on the seafront. Would recommend it to anyone. Already thinking of going back with friends this year.

The hotel and staff where lovely and I couldn't possibly find one thing to complain about. The animation team put on great shows every night and work extremely hard for their money. Perfect place for families with children as they take them off your hands with a variety of activities throughout the day. They suit all people of all ages as they managed to satisfy my family with ages 20, 23, 42 and 62.
My dad is an extremely fussy eater and he found something to suit him every night. The food was gorgeous with a variety of different themed nights. The only thing my mum would suggest about it was that it could do with a bit of a fettle up regarding new curtains etc but as we where there they were in the middle of refurbishing the apartments! Already looking for my next holiday there. Was lovely!

They deserve a medal for all their hard work they put into their job. I will go back for two weeks in 2006. I can say to all the people who complain about their holiday, they must be very fussy.
Thank you all again for our fabulous stay and making us so welcome. Thank you again animation team. Keep up the good work. See you all soon. xxx

"Los Zocos Was Amazing And Cannot Wait To Go Back Next Year!"
Travel date:
October 2005
I am a 15 year old girl and I am just back from Los Zocos with my mum, dad and friends who went with us! We had an amazing time. The rooms were ok but they are basically for sleeping in because that is all we did in them as we were so busy with the animation team and talking to others there and just general things you do on a fabulous holiday!
The animation team (Renie, Alshia, Janine, Carola, Claire), they worked from ten in the morning until 11 at night doing all sorts of stuff with children and adults. Then at 8.30 at night they would have a child's mini disco but anybody could have joined in. Then there would be a show on, like an act they are doing or they have someone in to do something but there is always something going on!
Me and my family and friends were so overjoyed that we are going back next year for two weeks. It is such a fabulous holiday and as for the people saying bad about it, they all need to stop being so fussy. And as for cockroaches, no one can help them, they are living after all! But I am so excited about going back next year as we are meeting all the people we met there again.

"Great Holiday Had By All"
Travel date:
October 2005
Just got back from Los Zocos and had a brilliant week. Was a bit worried before going after reading some reviews but can honestly say it was best holiday ever!
The apartment was in block three and very clean. Cleaners came in every other day and changed bedding and towels. All the staff at the complex was really friendly and the animation team was great - they worked so hard. The food was excellent with a great variety at all meal times. A nice selection of drinks but could do with more. I was a bit upset that I couldn't have Tia Maria or Pernod unless paid for but plenty of others to select from, including cocktails :)
The only thing that did get me a bit mad was people getting up at silly times (5-6 am) to put towels on the sun loungers. Even though this it not supposed to be allowed, it wasn't stopped.
Entertainment was good, especially for the younger children. I could see young teenagers getting a bit bored in evening though as there was not enough for them, although my 11 year old loved it.
We went on the island trip and highly recommend it. We had a great day out, as we did at Rancho Texas and the reps' cabaret night. All the reps were really friendly and helpful. It was definitely the most relaxing week I have ever had and would recommend it to anyone. We have already booked to go back next year!

Having read some of the reviews, I had to send my own, having just came back from two weeks over Easter all inclusive. The weather was gorgeous. The room was basic but what do people expect, the same comfort that you have at home? It was clean and maid service was fine.
The food was ok and plenty of it, so there is no need to go hungry.
The resort entertainment team - 'the animation team' were superb and really made a point of getting every one involved. My kids loved them. I would definately go again.

Just returned from our favourite island where we have been many times and had a fabulous holidy. Although not the 'holiday from hell' it nearly could have been. Our room (in block two) was dismal. The furniture and fittings were well past their sell-by date and the carpet had suspicious stains. At least we didn't suffer cockroaches as other visitors had. We didn't complain, we just demanded a move to recently refurbished block three which the staff duly accomodated and was much better.
We were self catering so we didn't sample the food. Maid service is excellent and the complex itself very clean with two good sized (unheated) pools.
Don't be put off by this just demand to be located in block three on arrival and you will enjoy your holiday. Incidentally, the weather was awful but four adults with a hire car and good public transport still had a good time. We will return (not to Los Zocos though!)

This was our first all inclusive holiday and we were a little apprehensive. The adverse weather was a contributing factor for our getting to know all the other guests and the very friendly staff.
We found the resort to be clean and safe, with maid service to our room five days during the week. Clean towels were provided in abundance, and our bedding was changed twice...the maids even took the time to arrange our sons cuddly toys neatly on his pillow...a real nice touch!
The food, albeit basic, was cooked well, presented excellently and there was plenty of it, although the vegetarian choice was a little disapointing. The waiting staff were friendly and always made the effort to make a fuss of all the children, whilst at the same time carrying out their duties very efficiently.
The entertainment staff were great...considering their age they worked extremely hard and were great fun. We will certainly be back next year. The resort is great for families, and the friendly kids club was a great distraction from the couple of days of torrential rain. Thank you.

Upon arrival we went to our allocated room. It was awful, something from a house of grime! The frige was beyond its life, the cutlery was filthy and the room was not as illustrated in the brouchure. mmy husband immediately went and found the rep who arranged a move, this was to an equally awful room, we even found the remains of cockroahes in the bedroom which the maid just laughed off! We stayed in this room as it seemed that this was to be our only option.
We spent many a morning listening to the occupants in the rooms above using the bath room - my idea of a good holiday. I got the impression that we were not unusual in our complaints as the staff and reps just seemed to roll their eyes. We were self catering but the oven did not appear to be in a working condition and there were no cooking utensils - probably a ploy to get us to go all inclusive.
The furniture was old, dirty and vandsalised. The maid came five times in the week and she made the beds. I think the hoovers were broken as they were not used and the towels were not changed daily.
Overall Lanzarote is a lovely island, Costa Teguise is really pleasant, Los Zocos is a disgrace.

I stayed at Los Zocos twice, once in September 02 and again in December 04. I came with my mum and my little brother and we loved it so much, we came back again and brought the rest of the family. A lot of people we met out there have stayed there more than once!
It's a great relaxing break for the parents, fun all round for the kids and for the teenagers, there are clubs and bars on the beach that are packed all week (the 'Jellyfish' was my favourite).
You are guaranteed to getva lovely deep tan when the season is right. In December, five days out of the seven it rained and Costa Teguise is the windiest part of the island, but it didn't stop everyone from having a great time.
All the staff are really friendly and are excellent with children. The entertainment is very good, but if you stay for two weeks, you'll notice that they repeat week by week. But there are plenty of other child friendly places. The bar and ballroom have comfy seats and everything is easy to acsess.
The appartments are spotless and have beautiful views of the island, no matter where you're located!
I'm going again in May for a short break with my boyfriend and then again in December with my family and quite a few people I met out there! And will probably keep doing this for quite some years!!!
The first time we booked we did it off Sky Interactive without a clue what it would be like and it was one of the best places I've ever been and soooo cheap!!! I love it!

I put three for the cleanliness of the room, the correct welcoming from staff, but expect to be in the middle of a live "Rocky Horror picture show" of UK people, I just learned today you call them chavs in UK.
The 31st december 2004 was striking. Five hours of Elton John and the like and I tried to not listen to it from my room at the 2nd floor, desperately.
I escaped the hotel the next day, the sight of all the flesh roasting themselves by the swimming pool at 9am was too much for me, and all these people in Nike/Reebok/Adidas (Puma for some extremists) and the football shirts on 90% of the above 16 year old lads was too much for me too. Ok, I'm not English, sorry, nobodys perfect.
Enjoy !
One last thing: the Indian restaurant Najjul (or with a very close name) nearby is fine, if you happen to be there, you can go to escape these crowds. Cheap prices and good quality I thought.

If I have any complaints it is that some of the barstaff could do with a customer care course but on the whole I would urge you to try this club for a late break in the sun.

The animation team got me involved with most of the activities. Cannot say how much I enjoyed it. I am thinking of moving out to Lanzarote to live and work. Would love to be in the animation team.

We went all inclusive which was expensive as I had to pay full adult price for three of us. We met a couple who said that they had booked self catering and then upgraded to all inclusive so I am looking into that.
The food was good and plenty of choice for all, including kids. The staff were very nice and resort very clean and maid service very good. The pool area was spotless and cleaned night and morning. The beach was spectacular and very clean and the kids thought being able to see the fish swimming around your feet was fantastic. Overall we were very pleased and didn't want to come home!

"Los Zoco Club Resorts Apartments"
Travel date:
February 2001
Just returned from our stay at the Los Zocos. This is one of the worst holidays we have ever experienced. The accomodation was very basic and dirty. We went self caterering to begin with. The oven was disgusting and should have been condemned, no kettle, so boiling water took forever to boil in a saucepan.
It rained heavily for five of the days of the stay. (which we appreciated isn't anyones fault), but there was nowhere comfortable to sit or entertain the children. Although our accomodation had sky tele, the seating was so uncomfortable you couldn't sit on it for to long without getting a bad back. Our bedding and clothes were damp and musty smelling and we were unable to dry them, so we had to wear damp clothes. We ask our First Choice Rep if we could possibly have a heater to dry them, as my husband suffers with arthritis and her helpful response was flatly 'no'.
The bath was so rusty, you wondered if it could possibly hold any water without leaking. The stack pipes from the above apartments came through the bedroom, so when anybody from above urinated or opened their bowels we could hear them doing so clearly. We then had the excitment of them flushing the toilet. We were not aware that the free attraction of visiting the Niagra Falls was included in the cost of this holiday.
Every entertainment room ,the restuarant and public areas were covered with sodden blankets and had buckets on the floor to catch the many leaks. I must say we did joke that it reminded of the carry on film 'Carry on Abroad', (and we all know how that film ended). The food, after going fully inclusive, was good and of good quality.
We asked the rep if we could move to another apartment and she informed us that we could be moved on the day of our departure. We declined. There were numerous break-ins where people had money, jewellery, cameras etc stolen.
We couldn't take any more and asked to be moved. At extra expense to us we moved to the beautiful Beatrix Playa hotel in Matagorda which was the best part of the holiday. This took our rep six hours to arrange, so that was our last day of our holiday taken care of. Would we return, not likely.
However the resort is clean and the people are friendly, but in future I personally will be sticking to the south of the island where it is not as breezy. We stayed at the Beatrix Playa Hotel in Matagorda last August and had a fantastic time. We thought we would try something different, but we would certaintly not be going back to the Los Zocos Apartments. Star rating - 1. resort rating -6.
These opinions are those of HotelStreet visitors and not of HotelStreet.
