Review title: "Had A Great Time Here"
Travel date: March 2008
We spent a great week at this hotel. Good choice of menu, for example breakfast - traditional English, cereals, continental breakfast, boiled eggs and toast. Evening meal offered a varied choice.

Rooms very clean, staff very helpful and friendly and entertainment in the evenings was good. We found the hotel was three to four euro taxi ride in to the town/beach. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel.

The pool was cleaned every morning. All in all we had a enjoyable time at the Puerto Azul and would not hesitate to go back.

Nice enough hotel. Rooms were clean but very hard to find!
Lifts didn't work and as for the food, I wouldn't give it to a dog! So be warned about the Partner Puerto Azul.

Hotel location not very good - half way up, not near any thing but very steep hill to shopping centre. Meals first week not too bad but second week fed up same things all the time - always no gravy.

Staff were nice and most were very helpful. Our maid was very good but others had problems with no clean towels. Bar staff very friendly but closes 11 p.m. prompt. Entertainment very poor and because of location you were stuck with it. Overall I would not go back to the Puerto Azul.

Review title: "Horrible Hotel - Dont' Book It!"
Travel date: July 2007
Read this before booking the Puerto Azul hotel please!

Right, where do I start? All I can say is this is the worst hotel I have ever been to in my whole life. I went here in July 2007 with three of my mates. When we first got there we thought the hotel looked really nice, just like all the pictures we had seen before and were really excited. We read lots of reviews before going and most were good so we ignored the rest but wish we had never booked it!

Please don't let me put you off going to Puetro Rico its self because I have been there twice before and the hotels were great. I just really really don't recommend Puerto Azul and hope you read this and think carefully before booking!

A Spanish man told us it was the worst hotel on the whole island!

Bad points:

1. Food was disgusting - most food not even worth looking at! (veal stew!)

2. Pool never got cleaned.

3. Staff were very rude to us throughout our holiday.

4. A lot of personal items got taken from the room.

5. We thought the alcohol was watered down.

6. There was no entertainment for people aged above eight because all the entertainment they had was snake show, snake show, snake show, snake show, parrot show, man on a piano and snake shows!

7. There was a disgusting smell around the pool and near the kitchen!

8. We hired a safe for 38 euros and reception refused to give us our deposit money back.

9. On the last day we were not allowed in the restaurant for food (even though all we ate was chips and bread!!!) because we were leaving at 6.15 for the airport but we had paid for the full day in the hotel so should have been allowed food but weren't.

10. While we were there a women stole my friends lilo off her sun bed (we saw her do it) and refused to give it back, claiming it was hers and complained to the manager about us!

There are lots more bad points but can't think at the moment.

Good points:

1. Night life was good.

2. Only three euros down to all the shops, restaurants and bars.

3. Lots of taxis all day and night.

Review title: "Disappointing"
Travel date: August 2006
Booked an apartment to sleep two adults and two children. Got an apartment with two single beds and a single sofa bed?! Didn't even see our rep in the whole 14 days. Wasn't even there for the welcome in meeting.

The ship on the entrance should have Marie Celeste on it, as the most we counted on the best day was 30 people around the pool and 12 at the bar. Entertainment consisted of four half hour nights in 14 nights, plus no kids' entertainment at all. If you want a very quiet holiday, then this is the place to be. Not exactly a family holiday place to go.

Travel date: July 2005
This is the best hotel. It is fun and full of things to do such as scuba diving, water polo. The staff are fantastic! I would recommended this hotel to everybody it is that good. The pools are huge. Plenty of sun loungers for people who like to lounge about! The entertainment is great. It has a fantastic view of the beach.

Me and my partner booked a very last minute deal and when we arrived were certainly not disappointed! The room was superb and the staff, pool, pool bar, and entertainment were faultless! The best holiday I have ever had! Highly recommended.

Good basic, clean, older hotel/apartment. Excellent value for money. The hotel staff were professional, polite and attentive.

The outstanding feature of the hotel, however, is the position. Close to the centre of the old town and close enough to the beach to hear the sea. Would certainly stay there again. Recommended!!! Try the bar next door ?The Garum' - top venue.

Review title: "The Greatest Hotel EVER!!!"
Travel date: December 2004
I think that the hotel is superb. It was the greatest Christmas I have ever had. I did dancing, singing, I even helped the entertainment staff. I have been coming to Puerto Rico every year for the past 10 years and every time I did not want to come home.

LOVE THE HOTEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review title: "Excellent"
Travel date: September 2004
Came on holiday here for two weeks. I cannot fault anything. The room was lovely with a gorgeous view of the beach. The staff were great, this being the main reason we want to go back. The bar staff were excellent and extremely friendly and the two guys on the entertainment are 10 out of 10.

We had previously planned to go into the town in the evenings, but once we had one night of entertainment from these guys, we would go out for tea and a drink, but always made sure we were back for the nights entertainment. Don't be thinking we're middle aged people wanting a quiet holiday. We're both 27 and enjoy the night life. We just found no need to ever leave the complex.

This hotel is wicked. It is really clean, got great staff, brill views I could go on. I had the time of my life. It's great from families with teens also, I met loads of people when I went.

The walk down the steps to the beach gives you exercise. I came home losing weight not putting it on for a change!!! Also its so cheap everywhere. And the food is amazing. Great vibe and atmosphere in Puerto Rico and in the hotel alone. Never wanted to leave and definitely going back this year! Also, tip for new people to the hotel!! You will never get lost, just look for the big boat!!!!!!

Review title: "A Brilliant Hotel - Amazing"
Travel date: March 2004
I have been to this hotel now every year for the past ten years. Sometimes, when I was younger we went twice a year. The hotel is in a prime location overlooking the beach with the Europa Center at the top of the hill just five minutes away for some great nightlife. The main entertainer, James, is very good but sadly he isn't very good at table tennis but overall this place is the best in the world. I'm 16.

Travel date: February 2004
We stayed at the Puerto Azul last year and the hotel was fantastic. The food was also great. The only downside to the hotel is the rooms were exceptionally clean but very basic and could do with a revamp. But hey, you only sleep in them. Would definately go back there.

Travel date: October 2002
Lush pools and views. Great location as you can walk up to the Europa Centre or down to the shops and beach. Good entertainment, fun for all the family.

The only downside was the food as they would serve the same things over again but they had lush ice-cream. By the poolside they do mint BBQs. I would recommend this hotel to couples families or groups of people.

Review title: "What A Place!"
Travel date: September 2001
It was a while ago since I stayed at this hotel. I have been on holidays since then but they just were not as good or as friendly staffed as it was here. We were not actually meant to stay here as we had been over booked but we ended up here. I'm pretty glad we did and we will be back in the near future!

These opinions are those of HotelStreet visitors and not of HotelStreet.
