Review title: "Nightmare"

Where do I start? We had electrical problems - a broken water boiler which blew the electrics. This caused the fridge to go off and the freezer defrosted all its water over our food, which had to be disposed of. They repaired the problem (supposedly) and we replenished the fridge, only for the same thing to happen later that day. It was decided the apartment could not be made safe and usable so we were moved to another apartment, where after two days, we were flooded (with sewage). They mopped it up and said it was now OK. Wrong! I went into the bathroom an hour later, it was totally flooded and I slipped and fell, twisting my ankle and back. They moved us again, this time to a poky apartment as they were unable to place us in one on the same side as apparently 'the whole block is going to flood'. We moved (third apartment in six days).

I went to complain and requested confirmation that the apartment had flooded, only to be told 'what's your problem? We moved you. Everyone has accidents!'. When I tried to explain that the only reason I fell was due to the flooding, she shrugged her shoulders and said 'We have done everything. You have been moved'. I was refused a letter off them confirming the circumstances for insurance purposes. I am furious and very disappointed. This is a health hazard, not only due to the flooding but the nature of the flood. Not only did we have to put up with sub standard apartments but were treated poorly and insulted by the reception staff. I am absolutely disgusted with this and we were not the only people to have been flooded with sewage during our stay.

The Puerto Caleta apartments, are, in my opinion, unsafe; if I had been elderly or a child I could easily have had a more serious fall and further injury. The stress we had during this 'holiday' was unbelievable - so much for a relaxing break. I spent more time back and forth to get problems sorted and packing and unpacking than anything else.

Review title: "Puerto Caleta "
Travel date: June 2008
We arrived in June on a family holiday including a two year old. The Puerto Caleta apartments are basic but very clean and tidy. The maids do work really hard and the bedding is changed every other day.

Yes, the apartments do need a little TLC but this did not ruin our holiday. They are in a great location, not too busy or loud and in walking distance of lots of restaurants, bars and shops. There are lots of free play parks for the kids to use which was great.

There are many restaurants to choose from - the steak house 'Fado Rock'), 'Slow Boat' Chinese (the restaurant upstairs), 'Mexican Corner' (Great for rack of ribs) and 'Sean OG's' (Irish bar in the Puerta del Sol complex). The bar man there sent us to his friends (typically Spanish) restaurant opposite the airport which included free taxi there and back which was amazing so would recommend this (they did not speak English very well but they and we got by).

The beach was nice and great for kids as there is so much room to run around before they reached the sea. The beach over to the Sheraton Hotel (big red bricked hotel you see in the distance) is really lovely and has a safe cove for kids. We did some fishing over there on the rocks. There is also a shopping centre (Atlantico) here with a big Spar supermarket which is a lot cheaper than the Nettos. There is a lovely Irish bar/restaurant in the shopping complex (on the ground floor) where the food was really nice and the service was great. They really looked after us and our young son. I had the steak and onion wrap which was fab.

Take a trip on the little train which tours the town - its worth it for one euro each way. You can pick it up from the harbour. Down the road from the Barcelo Club El Castillo there is a great fish restaurant there which cooks sea bass and sea bream on a barbecue just outside the restaurant - great for watching the sun go down around 8.30 p.m.-9 p.m.

The weather started around 35 degrees and reached highs of 45 in the first week of July, but the light breeze make it feel cooler so be very careful.

And finally, the 'Lord Nelson' pub (at the Puerto Caleta apartments) was just great. Ros (bar lady and all rounder), Ann (Ros's sidekick), Tony (chief cook) and Dan all looked after us so well whilst we were there. Our son took a shine to all of them, as did we. We had some great laughs at the quiz (with Sarah and Henry) and Steve the quiz master. All in all a great holiday. Just be sensible and lock your valuables away. It's all about common sense.

Review title: "Stay Here!"
Travel date: March 2008
The Puerto Caleta apartments are wonderful for a cheap out of season holiday. The maid kept it spotless and we had no problems at all. There is no air conditioning though so high season would be too much! The restaurant and pool area are lovely and everyone is so welcoming there. Can't wait to return!

Review title: "Puerta Caleta Apartments Was A Fantastic Place to stay"
Travel date: September 2005
We stayed in these apartments and probably had the best holiday ever. Every one was really friendly and the staff at the 'Lord Nelson' pub were brill. The weather was 28+ every day for two whole weeks and the apartments were clean apart from the odd ant but once reception was told they soon sorted it out.

Before we came here for first time, we read other reviews probably just like you are doing now but we enjoyed it so much we are going back again this year.
