Review title: "Mariant Hotel "
Travel date: August 2007
I booked a two week all inclusive family break for myself, my partner, our four year old daughter and my mother to the Mariant Hotel in s'Illot (not to be confused with the four star Mariant Park Hotel in s'Illot).

We were assured that the accommodation had a bedroom and a sofa bed in the separate living area. When we arrived we were given the key to a hotel room which was very small, with two single beds, sofa bed and separate bathroom. After explaining to the hotel manager that the room was not adequate, he told me they would move us to another room (a studio room) in their studios (the Mirgay aparthotel) overlooking the sea. He explained that this would usually cost 140 euros (ten euros per night) extra but he would reduce it to 70 euros as a special offer! After spending £1800 on the accommodation I was not entirely happy, but in order to save all of us sleeping in a very small room I agreed.

The aparthotel turned out to be lovely. The view is beautiful and the little bar is quiet and comfortable and with a small pool it was perfect for my daughter. The short five minute walk to the main hotel was nice.

The main hotel is mostly occupied by German people. Very few Spanish and English stay at this hotel.

The food was a pleasant surprise during our first week, as we had never been AI before. The second week we were slightly fed up with the whole process of lining up for food, waiting for plates, the smell of the dining room and the general type of food that was available. The food was varied including soup, bread, salads, fruit, pasta, meat served in sauce and fish dishes, usually sliced or chipped potatoes, mousse, jelly and ice cream every night. Coffee, tea, juices (all powdered or made from concentrate which occasionally run out and was not replaced for a while) were available all day, cake is available in the afternoon and alcohol was available between 10 a.m. and 11.30 p.m. We were advised that snacks would be made available - this consisted of a meat or cheese sandwich which the bar staff didn't like providing either! The food was not fantastic but you do have to remember that this is a three star hotel. Taking in to consideration that everything was included (for approx £40 per person per day), you can not expect a great deal more, although by leaving the hotel and going for drinks and food during the second week we saw so much more of the town and experienced the food and company of the local people.

The pools were not cleaned in the two weeks we were there and it was impossible to get a sun bed.

The evening entertainment was slightly disappointing and consisted of one man (poor guy!) running either a mini disco or bingo (called in German, Spanish and English) which takes about two hours! He has a very small music collection! So needless to say we went out most evenings to other places or the quiet bar at the Mirgay.

Most staff are pleasant but the reception staff speak very little English and can come across as being arrogant.

I wouldn't choose to stay at the Mariant again. I would however choose to go back to s'Illot but I would go self catering or bed and breakfast somewhere else! The food at the various lovely restaurants looking out over the sea is very, very cheap and alcohol is not expensive. It would be a real shame if we didn't get the chance to experience the people and food because of going AI.

s'Illot has great transport links and is very close to Sa Coma, which has a beautiful beach and Cala Millor for shopping!

Review title: "Mariant Hotel Is Garbage"
Travel date: July 2007
The hotel was very German orientated, particularly the food, information signs and the understanding of language from some of the staff. Some of the staff, especially the reception staff, were rude and arrogant. The hot water went off and it took them 26 hours to rectify it and when questioned about it we were told to go away. I really think they did not understand the English language.

The entertainment consisted of one scruffily dressed little man aged about 50 to 60 doing bingo and mini disco on alternative nights [how boring].

On the good side, the rooms were quite clean unless you pulled the beds out and found two millimetres of dust. The maids did come in everyday except one. The pool never got cleaned and people were allowed to swim in it beyond the hours of 23.00 hours. Overall, I would give this hotel one or two stars.
