Review title: "Pizza Restaurant Is Great, Just Outside"
Travel date: December 2007
My husband and I went to this hotel for our 50th wedding anniversary celebration and also my husband's birthday. On arrival, we were taken to our room with no waiting around. Next night when we came back, we had a lovely bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates waiting for us on ice. On
the night of my husband's birthday another bottle and some chocolates were brought to our room with good wishes and a lovely smile from the lady that brought it.

We loved every minute of our stay at the Costa Adeje Gran hotel. Our breakfast was wonderful and we could eat as much as we wanted. I could not eat it all and there was no problem taking an apple or an orange out with me for later. The staff were always very polite, though sometimes I felt the residents could have been more like them.

Our phone was not working but reception was quick to let us know what to do if we wanted to make a call. They contacted our taxi back to the airport too and did all they could to make our stay a happy one.

The hotel itself was a revelation, it was very big and very grand. There was evidence of some updating which is normal in any place that size, even one's own home and it has to be done sometimes, however, it never intruded on our stay in any way.

I purchased one or two inexpensive items in the hotel shop for my grandchildren and thought the price was good. Yes, prices in the bar are more expensive than in a bar, but then you are sitting in luxury while drinking it. Also, there was always entertainment at night to watch or listen to.

I bought a camera from the in-shop at the hotel. However, I was not happy with it after a day and told the young man so. He exchanged it for another without any hassle. I am very pleased with the exchange, however, I have since realised that cameras and electrical goods are easier to buy at home and just as cheap, better still you can rely on what you buy and know it is not a copy, A lot of fake cameras are sold in Tenerife these days, one only has to look on the web to see that.

We are looking forward to going back to Costa Adeje. This hotel gave us a great price deal so it would be hard to go elsewhere.

Our favourite eating place was a little Italian restaurant just a few yards from the hotel. They serve great pizzas and chef even showed me how he cooked them. I am not going to tell you that just yet!

Review title: "Five Star - Don't Believe The Hype"
Travel date: October 2005
The only thing five star about the Costa Adeje Gran Hotel is the entrance and the price of a drink at the numerous bars within the complex. This hotel is in urgent need of refurbishment! Many places throughout the complex are in need of plaster/paint or repair, inclusive of the swimming pool linings which have started to detach and form ridges on the bottom of the pool. Fixtures and fittings in many areas need to be replaced as they are simply worn out. The sofa in my room was filthy.

Food is bland/repetitive and the standard of presentation is poor. The dining room reminded me of a works' canteen as did the queue.

If you want five star give this place a wide birth, even better, try The RIU Palace (four star) or the Bahia Principe (four star), both of which provide much better value for money and superior service.

By the way a vodka and coke in the hotel bar will cost you 7.40 euros but you can buy a litre of vodka and a large bottle of coke for less in the supermarket next door. Local wines will cost between 11 - 17 euros in the restaurant and 3 - 5 euros in the adjacent supermarket.

I will not be making a return visit and would not advise anyone who has had previous experience of a quality hotel to do either!

Review title: "Costa Adeje Gran Hotel Is Fantastic!"
Travel date: May 2005
This hotel is fantastic. There was everything to do. You were never bored and I will definitely be visiting it again in 2007. It is booked so I do hope that the standards haven't dropped.

It is for all ages really because there is anything and everything to do. You needn't step out of the hotel grounds! Brilliant two weeks!

Must disagree with the last writer's comments about the food not being good. It certainly was when we were there. At dinner, cold table with loads of choices, meats, seafood etc and the hot has about eight different selections. Deserts are good and the wine list is excellent.

The Gran is an excellent hotel and the rooms and facilities are superb. We are going back in June through Orchid Travel who are great.

Review title: "Nice Hotel"
Travel date: June 2004
Beautiful hotel. We loved our stay.

A couple of tips - don't book this hotel through a travel agent, as it's too expensive. Book on-line through Alpharooms and Monarch airlines. They are the lowest prices at the minute. Then when you get there, there is a taxi rank at the airport and a taxi to the hotel costs about ?20.

Also the food is not great there so book bed and breakfast and eat out. We stayed here B & B. We would have stayed self catering but that's not an option, and we're glad we did. Breakfast was ok, as long as you were first in queue, however if you weren't you were sent to another section of the room and the food was re-heated, maybe from the day before, and you could taste it. I've spoken to quite a few people who've stayed here and they've told me the food was not up to five star standards. Lots of restaurants around. Theres a Chinese next door! Theres also a supermarket next door.

Love this hotel and am returning again this year, but this time paying less!

We've stayed here about four or five times now, from when it first opened. The area is quiet leaving all the bars, stag and hen nights to Las Americas. There are a few designer shops about with the usual perfume and cosmetic shops.

The Hotel is elegant and modern. The are three lovely pools and a grand loby/reception. The rooms are lovely but do try to get one facing out onto the main pool. The view from the front and sides of the Hotel aren't great with a patch of waste land to the side of the Hotel, over the road. A shopping centre is being built (it was started before our firt stay) but this is a good five minute walk away and there never seems to be any work going on there.

We too must disagree with comments made by a previous guest, speculating on 'reheated food, from the day before'. Have always found the food good with plenty of choice for varying tastes. Breakfast is always good with chefs there making omlettes etc. in front of you. We have found it to be a similar standard to other 5* Hotels abroad. I was pregnant on my last stay and still found plenty to choose from even with all the restrictions on my diet.

Will be going back soon
