"Caledonia Park - Putting The Record Straight!"
Travel date:
March 2009
Me and my fiancé (both under 22) got back last week from the Caledonia Park hotel. I had read the reviews and to be honest, was petrified of what our room was going to be like.
Got there at 8.30 p.m. on a Sunday, got our key straight away and were directed to our room. Room was located about ten steps away from the pool on the ground floor. Saw two cockroaches on the way there but they were all I saw all week in regards to insects! Room was fine. I would say it was a good size, large sofa, small TV - one euro per hour - double bed, small kitchen, hardly any kitchenware but hey, bathroom was really nice - brand new toilet, bidet (or however its spelt!) bath with shower attachment and a large mirror above sink area. Was all white and granite, and seemed very clean. We had fresh towels and our bed made every day. Whenever we saw the maids, they were very polite.
Food was average. Breakfast included meats, cheese, bacon, toast chips and beans. Probably cereal but I never looked! We went out for breakfast most mornings as we usually missed it at the hotel as it finished at ten. Loads of small restaurants just down the (smallish) hill, which sold full English breakfasts for about £4. Lunch and dinner were pretty much the same - chicken, risotto, paella, chips, fresh salad and fresh fish. Bar snacks in the afternoon are chips, hot dogs and pizza etc. Not the best standard, most a lot of it pretty cold.
I don't drink alcohol at the moment but was told the beer was good. They limit you to two drinks each, but each member of your party can go up and get two and they wouldn't care. And yes, they are served in plastic cups, but so were the drinks on the five star Caribbean cruise I went on at Christmas - it's for safety by the pool!
Entertainment was alright the nights we saw it. One night was a bird show - they had a snowy owl and bald headed eagle flying through the entertainment room/hall! They had bingo, karaoke, girls v boys and the usual English entertainment I would say.
Pool was massive. Would say the picture is a true reflection. Didn't go in it, as it was quite cold being March but people in there looked happy enough! There was music playing by the pool each day, at a nice volume which I think most people appreciated. There was also a paella and sangria demonstration one day, and a few pool tournaments throughout the week.
It's definitely not ten minutes walk from Veronica Strip - definitely a five minute taxi drive for between four tpo eight euros. Some nice shops down there but bars were pretty empty this time of year, and they don't half hassle to get you in for drinks! But everyone down there was friendly. We usually went a two minute walk from the hotel just down the hill to 'Snoopy's' karaoke/comedy bar - absolutely brilliant entertainment! Tina Turner/Amy Winehouse impersonator was incredible! A must see!
Just across the road from here is a slope that goes all the way down to the beach - five minute walk I would say. Four euros for sunbeds with comfy pads on! Surrounded by bars restaurants and shops and a really lovely beach, if you don't mind it being too busy.
All in all, would definitely go back to this part of Tenerife. Hotel was okay, not bad, not excellent, just okay I would say. Was a nice clean base and near most areas. If you're after a higher standard, then pay for a five star hotel. But at the end of the day, you make your holiday what it is, and we both had a great time.

"Brilliant"

We have just returned from this hotel and we all, that is, us, daughter and son in law and two teenage boys, have had the best holiday ever. The hotel, staff, facilities etc. were brilliant. It was clean, the food was excellent - good choice for all - and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We would all like to return to the Caledonia Park hotel.

"Do Not Be Put Off By The Bad Reviews"
Travel date:
September 2007
Arrived at 3.30 in afternoon on the 11th September. The room was newly refurbished. Nice and spacious. Very clean. The maid visited everyday except Sunday. Clean towels everyday, beds changed every other day. The room we had included one bedroom with two single beds and two sofa bed/chairs in the living area. Room number 317. I never saw any cockroaches in the two weeks I stayed.
Staff on reception speak great English and very helpful. Our television was not working, reported it to reception and someone came to the room 15 minutes later! Really good. Pool area cleaned daily and thoroughly.
Only down part was the people staying at the hotel. They left all their rubbish laying around the sun beds, even though there are lots of bins situated everywhere around the complex. Pool was plenty big enough and also had a separate baby pool. Plenty of sun beds to go round. A grass area to sun bathe on too. Tennis courts, volley ball/basket ball and squash court. Children's play area. Waiters are nice, if you are nice back of course, like any one! They work very long hours in that heat, 16 hours a day I witnessed numerous staff working. And they do work hard.
The restaurant was clean and tidy and the waiters were cleaning all the time. The food was fine, you had around four or five choices, plus chips/salad/bread, jacket potatoes, mash and a roast everyday. Breakfast included boiled, fried, scrambled egg, ham/cheese, bread, jams, sausage, bacon, cereal and toast. A choice for every one, young and old.
The entertainment was from 11 a.m. until 3.30 p.m., then again from 8 p.m. until 11.15 p.m. Something more or less happening every other night. Saw a snake show, parrot show, eagle show, hypnotist, singer/comedy act, fantasia, karaoke and comedy Elvis. The kids could attend a kids' club in the day, aged four plus. Kids' disco nightly.
All in all I enjoyed the holiday and can honestly not say a bad thing about the hotel and staff. It is a three star hotel, not higher. Guests of all ages and nationalities. Food was served 8-10.30, 12.30-3 and 6.30-9 p.m. in the restaurant. Pool bar snacks 11-12 and 3.30-5.30 p.m. Also in the evening, around 10 p.m., bowls of crisps are put on the bar and sandwiches, just in case you are a bit hungry, even after three full meals a day and snacks! The snack bar served hot dogs, pizza, cheese and ham toasties, chips, beans and ice cream. Bar open 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.
Think I have covered it all. I am a fussy person, regarding cleanliness and with my food, but I had no problems. Sorry my review is a bit wishy washy. Thanks and enjoy your holiday.

"Caledonia Park Is Fantastic!"
Travel date:
October 2005
I went to stay at the Caledonia Hotel for a week with four other friends, all of us 18.
The apartment we had had two bedrooms, an open plan kitchen and living area and a bathroom. All were clean and comfortable. The maids cleaned the room every day, the towels were changed at least every two days and the beds were changed twice during the week we were there.
I read on another review site that people were complaining of being near the motorway. Our room was on the motorway side and we never even heard it!
The food was lovely and there was always something for everyone. It was different every mealtime so you never got bored! The snack bar food was basic but tasty and most importantly free so we weren't complaining! The bar will only give you two drinks per person when there is a queue but this is fair enough, and they are very generous with their measures!
They unlock the sun beds at 9 a.m. It's a good idea to get down there early and get yours set out on the side of the pool bar because the other side doesn't get sunshine until early afternoon whereas the pool bar side gets it from about 10 a.m. all day till about 6 or 7 p.m.
If you go out on a night, try 'O'Reily's' bar: great live music and cheap booze! If you are feeling more adventurous, get a taxi to Veronica's strip. It's five euros in a taxi (doubled after midnight), only five minutes away and a real laugh, open till 7 a.m. We went on the night before we came home and really regretted not going before!
Basically, we had a great time, saw no cockroaches at all and would go back without persuasion!
