"Carmen Apartments Need Updating"
Travel date:
April 2008
This apparent three star hotel is in drastic need of an upgrade. The rooms are very late 70s looking and the fixtures worn and in need of replacement. The bath in my self catering apartment was rusty round the plughole and there was black mould around the bath. My bathmat proudly boasted 'Carmen 98' but had only one hole - not bad for 10 years old. This place could be fantastic with a lick of paint and some new stuff.
It is five minutes to the Yumbo and five minutes to the beach (or 15 to the dunes!). I am writing this on my iPod touch in my room at the Carmen as they do have free wi-fi.
Staff are great, pool is nice and cleaners come in daily. If you don't mind the tired decoration, this is super value for Playa del Ingles.

"Carmen Apartments - Spotless"
Travel date:
January 2007
35 years old, I've just arrived home to night. Stayed there for one week. I stayed in studio. It was basic, all you really need, and spotless. The maid service was brilliant. The sheets were changed every day and you are only five minutes walk at most to the Yumbo centre and you have to go there. What a night! And I'm straight. That is the place for your cheapest duty free and ciggys. The wee shop you first see when you just enter.
You are right in centre off everything - five minutes walk to the beach as well. I would definitely go back to stay there in January. The weather is something else.

"Arthritis"
Travel date:
April 2006
With arthritis, two problems are sleeping and walking. Walking on asphalt is good, tile or pavement is harder on joints. Standing is bad.
The Carmen Apartments are a pretty good compromise: Bad back problems make holiday selection difficult. Carmen foam mattress was fine but I had to put on floor as there was no solid under board and when asked, no facility for supplying one. (some apartment hotels have a solid board under the foam settee). However, unusually the floors were not tiled, which is good in my case. Tiles hurt my back (with tiled floors I'd have to buy a thick rug and move it around to stand on to cook or wash.)
The location couldn't be much better, not loud, but near enough to the centre for a short walk. Beside the premises is a little supermarket. It's around the corner from a good supermarket, near various bus stops and a bus ride or bit of a hike to the end of the beach that isn't too bad.
The building and rooms are very pleasant, the pool is fine, big and surrounded by a bit of garden (with a bit of a bar) and chairs and chaise lounges in the sunshine. Some loud music was being played by a customer but they asked on our behalf for them to turn it down/off.
At that time there was wireless in the lobby, but a computer which while didn't surf the whole net or get my emails, it did allow me to find out various local things, bus schedules, cinemas (in other towns with buses to and from).
There is a (pretty and cool) tourist office with bus schedules and pharmacy at the near side of the central square.
