Just come back from two weeks at the Oro Playa - fantastic holiday. All staff are very friendly and helpful, rooms cleaned at least every other day and bar staff very entertaining. Although we didn't have any children with us, we could see that the entertainment for them was very good and they all seemed to enjoy it. Evening entertainment for children and adults very good. Pool facilities very good and water checked twice daily.
No complaints at all and will certainly go again very soon. Must try 'Trio' restaurant opposite - wonderful.

Me, my mom and my mom's friend had our first holiday and it was at Oro Playa. The staff was so friendly and kindly. We actually didn't want to go home at all.
There's entertainment, pool, bar and beautiful rooms. We're going down there very soon again. Oro Playa is perfect for everyone.

"Accommodation"

Hotel Oro Playa in Puerto Pollensa is one to miss. I suggest you avoid it at all costs. Our apartment was unfortunately dirty, old and had a definite musty smell. The bathroom had no window or extractor fan and so smelt less than fresh, in fact we had to go and buy bleach to try and eradicate the smells.
The sofas were engrained with sand and we virtually lived out of suitcases for the week owing to the furnishings smelling musty.
I know one does not go on holiday to stay in an apartment, which I never do and you only ever expect basic, but not unclean. I did complain and asked to be moved but I was told the complex told was full and by way of recompense it was cleaned again but unfortunately the building needs to be completely refurbished to conform even to the basic standard. Although only two star accommodation, I would rate it zero.
I did check the website to see what others had put before I booked and as there were mixed reviews decided it couldn't be that bad, how wrong was I.
I suggest to others it is given a wide berth until such time as it is refurbished
The resort of Puerto Pollensa itself is fantastic and I would give it a rating of ten, just go and stay somewhere else.

"Oro Playa Was Great"

I loved my stay at the Oro Playa, It was fairly clean and you can't get bored, The children all make friends and stay in the lounge with the big screen TV which the football is on for the lads also and in the evening there is a great entertainment programme. Coco and Nemo are great and really friendly and funny. The only thing I would say is that there were too many 60s, 70s and 80s nights in which only music was played and no real entertainment except for the mini disco which was enjoyed by little children and teenagers. The best of the songs being the 'Chichiwawa'!
Also the sofa beds in the rooms aren't very comfortable but apart from that, you can't complain except for the weather some days but what can you do?

This set of apartments are in a great location. They're set at the back of the main street and pine walk. They could do with painting as they do look a bit tired.
Many people return year after year as its not a huge complex and is a very friendly place. The rooms are small but have every thing you need. The bathrooms do need decorating but overall the Oro Playa is a good choice.

This was the best holiday we have ever experienced, well, so far. Oh yes, we will be returning so watch out! The entertainment was amazing, well, Coco was amazing - you are jealous he's in Belfast now, aren't you?
Waking up every morning with the sun shining through the window was glorious. AND not forgetting to watch our daily programme, Jeremy Kyle! Every morning never missed it (some people have pretty rubbish lives) and by the time it was over it was about 12 so mid day heat was approaching. Around this time we got breakfast. The best part of the apartments was the long walk to the beach - not! It was immense how we even walked in our bare feet to get to the beach. Ah, memories.
But back to the point, Puerto Pollensa itself was amazing - the scenery, the people, the shops and not forgetting the food, although I would warn people when walking up the street to the square that the floor is a bit slippery.
The beach, the sea, the pedaloes and 'Three Blind Mice' was an unforgettable experience. The beach was gorgeous - very well kept and presented. The pedaloes were hilarious, well, not when you get swept away by a wave. The sea was of a lovely temperature and swimming in it on a lilo was so relaxing.
The people we met over in Puerto Pollensa are so kind. We met Germans who were very exciting and now after meeting them, we have found a new best friend - love you Isa.
OK, OK I think I've written enough. But more to the point, Oro Playa was amazing. Great apartments. ten out of ten - no bother.

AAs a single parent I was rather dubious about going on holiday with my son. However, upon arrival at Oro Playa we were greeted immediately by the entertainment staff. Our week was spent in and around the accommodation which I found to be spotless. The pool and outside area is fantastic for the children and the entertainment provided by Coco and Nemo was superb, both were really friendly and deserve a medal! The children's club was also really good and all the girls there really friendly.
Oro Playa is in a fantastic location, just a short walk to the beach and some amazing restaurants. I would not think twice about booking to go to this resort again.

"Oro Playa Mixed Review"

June 2007
We were quite disappointed with the first impression of our room at Oro Playa, it was very basic and outdated. We had light fittings hanging off the wall and overall we thought it was quite grubby. However, it was clean and the maid service was every other day. We were however, extremely happy with the hotel staff, the Animation Team (Christoph and Nemo) and the bar staff. The pool was absolutely gorgeous and the location of the apartments was first class. Puerto Pollensa was out of this world, loads of restaurants to choose from (our favourite was El Castinet) and the beach was outstanding. I can't wait to go back next year.

Brilliant holiday, the only fault we had about the holiday was one week was definitely not enough! All the staff and entertainment staff (Nemo and friends) were all absolutely brilliant with children and adults of all ages.
Apartment room in great location with excellent views, lovely and clean (actually cleaned every day by friendly staff). Will definitely be going back as soon as we can. Brilliant, superb and fab.

We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at these apartments. They were very clean and the maids worked ever so hard each day. The staff were most helpful and the animation team were fantastic with the kids staying at the apartments.
The only down side was the gardening work which, in my opinion, should have been carried out and completed before the season started but this lasted for no more than one day and the gardeners tided up all of the mess they made as they worked. All in all, a most enjoyable holiday for myself, my husband and my pensioner parents. Thanks to all at Ora Playa.

"Disappointed Visitor"
Travel date:
September 2006
Having read reviews before holidaying at the Oro Playa, we were expecting a decent apartment. How wrong could we be! The window in the bedroom had a large crack, the toilet was moving when sat on, bath rusty, cutlery rusty, kettle and toaster didn't work (these were replaced) and the apartment was dingy. However, the entertainment programme was very good and the staff friendly. Maybe we were unlucky in our apartment allocation as the other family we were travelling with had no problems with theirs. One last moan, all the children were coming out of the children's pool with cuts to their toes from the rough surface at the bottom of the pool. Would definitely go back to Puerto Pollensa (brilliant resort), but I won't be in a hurry to stay in the Oro Playa again.

"Truly Amazing Family apartments!"
Travel date:
June 2005
Having spent our second year at the Oro Playa, I can honestly say that this is a truly superb place to stay. From the overall setting of the apartment blocks around a great pool area, to the friendly and energetic local staff.
The entertainment was great, ranging from a parrot show to a Wild West trio, who we suspect are the Guys from The Wacky Wild West water park attraction. There is a structured and varied selection of daily games and activities from 10.30 am until 3.30 pm, including rifle shooting, pool, 'javalot', killer darts etc. We also got to try scuba diving in the pool and my six year old had a great time pony riding, on Wednesdays. Franka and Sonja, the hotels 'animacion' (entertainment) team were lovely, and really seemed to enjoy thier jobs!
The apartments are basic in as much as you don't get a microwave or freezer, but the two ring cooker and fridge with spacious freezer compartment served our family of four well. There is sleeping for two in the sitting room which is comfortable, and there is a pull out bed that can be put up in either the sitting room or the bedroom. The bedroom has adequate wardrobe space and there is a dresser and two bedside cabinets too.
I recommend spending a few Euros and getting a key for the room safe, however, crime is not an isssue, but your insurance smallprint insists on it!
The on-site shop is OK for topping up your basics, but if you want to get a 'main shop', walk to the 'Caprabo' hypermarket (along the sea front and turn down the side of the Burger King restaurant, follow to the top and turn left and you are there!)
For some great days out, try a trip into Pollensa old town. A bus ride from the harbour will set you back one Euro each and is a return ticket. In Pollensa there are many lovely cafes and restuarants to choose from. For the energetic, try walking the 365 steps up to the top of Calvary Hill. The views from here are spectacular! Also try the bus to Formentor beach, its one Euro each way, but again the views on the way back are spectaular! The beach at Formentor is great, but catch the 10.30 bus as it does get crowded early. You can always try coming to or from the beach by catamaran from the harbour, but its about 20 Euros. Direct Holidays have a wide selection of trips out and they include the Caves of Drach, the best caves system I have ever seen. Its finale is a classical music recital on the underground lake. If you want to go further afield, try going solo to Palma by bus and catching the old train to Soller. From there you can catch a tram down to the Port of Soller. My kids loved this and we found it was cheaper going solo, with more time to spend there.
For a great eveing out (if a bit expensive) try Pirates! A nightly dinner show that Direct Holidays organise. At over 50 euros a head for adults, it can be expensive for a large family. Although we didn't try it, they tell me the Son Amar dinner show is better for older kids and adults.
Literally across the road and down a passage way lies the beach and the beautiful pines walk. Kids and adults alike will be thrilled by the lovely clear waters and the laid back atmosphere of this stretch of the bay. If you want more hustle and bustle, go into Alcudia, where its a bit more in your face! In the evening along the pines walk and the main front to the harbour, the cafes and restaurants come alive. Most people start to eat out from about 7.30 onwards, so if you have young ones its ideal to get them fed before this time. The street entertaineners include a juggler, unicyclist, who also does a great 20 minute show along by the Hotel Daina. Look out also for the sand sculpters, who are amazing! On the downside you do get the odd street seller trying to push the fake watches, DVDs and sunglassed on you.
All in all, if you do decide to stay at the Oro Playa, I would be suprised if you don't enjoy yourself. I can honestly say that in the two years we have been there, we have not heard a wrong word said that was of any significance. Happy hlidays!

We have just returned 12 days ago from a two week stay in the Ora Playa Apartments. One could not go wrong. Apartments were kept spotless, maid service something else, ours could not have been paid enough, even though she insisted on making the bed after I had made it!!!!!!!!!! Aghhhhhh, but everything had to be exact perfection with our maid. She was 100 per cent trustworthy and very obliging. I could not praise her enough.

"The Oro Playa Is A Great Hotel"
Travel date:

Me and my family have been to Majorca three times and we stayed at the Oro Playa every time. Oro Playa means golden beach in Spanish, in case you didn't know. We went there in 1999, 2000 and 2002.
It is located in Palma which has some great restaurants including the Coral, TexMex and some others which I can't remember the names of. I really enjoyed myself and Majorca is a great sunny place.
These opinions are those of HotelStreet visitors and not of HotelStreet.
