Review title: "Nice But Noisy"
Travel date: October 2008
An attractive looking hotel with a wide choice of food including a Majorcan/Spanish speciality and friendly staff.

The acoustics are truly terrible with doors slamming like rifle shots and conversations in adjacent rooms clearly audible.

Seats in the muddled bar/lounge are tiny and it's not a nice place to be nor are drinks cheap. The few children in the place looked bored with little for them to do.

The Uyal hotel is clean and has some character befitting it's 50+ year vintage. Not a bad choice for couples.

My husband and I stayed at the Uyal last July. Our holiday was booked through First Choice on the understanding the hotel was adult only (as stated in the 'Adult Escapes/Adult Experiences' brochure). To our dismay, this turned out not to be the case! We could not use the minuscule pool as it was over-run with children! Our evening meals were ruined by the noise some babies made and nappies were not always changed straight away!

We were fairly lucky with our room and had a lovely sea view. If you are booked in a room facing the back of the hotel, then beware! Very tiny and an ugly view!

The hotel itself is comfortable and clean. The area is very nice, especially the pine walk. Had we not booked on the understanding it was adult only, I suppose we would say the holiday was pleasant! We are currently in dispute with First Choice because of the misrepresentation.

Review title: "El Fawlty Towers"

We stayed at the Uyal for a week with a group of fellow cyclists. There is no question that the hotel's location is very beautiful, overlooking the wide horseshoe-shaped bay of Pollensa and immediately in front of a fine sandy beach.
Perfect for any artists, bird-watchers, cyclists and walkers.

Both dinner and breakfast are served buffet-style,which is where the fun begins! One is not permitted to change tables ever. If anyone infringes this rule, one will be shouted at (at length) and thoroughly humiliated in public. Quite why this rule is so slavishly adhered to, we never did find out as diners have to order wine/water with their meal
and pay for these before leaving the dining room. Failure to do this will result in being pursued out
of the dining room and along the corridor, being screamed at in Mallorquian! The food is plentiful, if a little bland, with occasional forays into local specialities like tumbet.

The rooms vary considerably and it is worth paying for a suite with a sea view balcony as these are roomy and cool with the advantage of having a fridge and safety deposit box.

The hotel has a tiny outdoor pool, tennis court and table tennis.

There are few amenities at this end of Pollensa, just a small supermarket selling snacks and drinks and beach stuff for children. The walk into Puerto Pollensa is very pleasant, although there is a regular bus service if you are feeling lazy. Local buses also take one into Alcudia - plenty of Roman history here and Palma for the stunning cathedral and serious shoe shopping!

The weather on our late April holiday was exceptionally good
so, that of course enhanced our stay.

Review title: "Mixed Feelings About The Uyal"
Travel date: July 2006
Arrived at the impressive hotel frontage and then were directed to the rather drab annexe. However, the room was spacious and clean and the superb sea views we had paid for were well worth it. I did miss having a fridge in the room - they were available to hire, but I thought them expensive at 45 euros a week. I only found out about them in the middle of the second week.

The room also lacked a comfortable chair - the only sitting provided was the beds, two dining room chairs and the chairs on the balcony.

I found the food a bit odd: I couldn't get my head round a combined meal of sprouts, chips and fricassee of rabbit. Couldn't eat it either, nor the dish of perch (perch??) that was offered one evening. I didn't think there was much choice in the food and struggled a few times to get a meal that I would actually eat. Some dishes were lovely, such as tumbet and sopa mallorqina and there were always plenty of fresh salads and fruit.

I didn't bother to stay for any entertainment, as it's not my thing, but one Lionel Ritchie tribute I heard as I left the hotel for the evening was singing Elvis songs - and was still singing them when I returned a couple of hours later!

Staff can't be faulted, from the maids to the manager. The hotel's location is perfect: opposite a wide sandy beach, away from the port itself, which I found very hot and crowded.

I didn't use the pool, but it looked clean, if a bit cramped. The pool man tended to it every morning, and also tended the grounds.

One drawback for families with small children could be that the beach is across a wide, and at times, very busy road. This needs great care when crossing.

Overall, I would go back to the Uyal, but I would probably look to stay in a suite next time to get the comfortable seating and a fridge.

Cannot fault this hotel. Wonderful, very clean and very friendly staff. Food quality was excellent. Very good choice. Something for all adults.

In future, in my opinion, it would be well worth upgrading this hotel to a four star. Would like to say thank you for making our stay. Will book again .

Review title: "Hotel Uyal Is The Best - We Will Go Back"
Travel date: July 2004
We had a great time at the Hotel Uyal, far enough out of the main centre as we prefer the beach up this end of the resort - also a nice long walk after the dinner, you will need it - the food is fantastic and plenty to eat, the range of food is great - we loved the local dishes, 'Tumbet' especially, great salad bar, fish dishes, meat dishes and they also put on burgers and chips for those who wanted it, a good all round service catering for all tastes.

We had a suite of rooms with front view, although we paid extra for this it was worth it - waking up to the view every morning and as we had a child it was nice just to sit with a drink on the balcony in the evening. Rooms were clean and although the lift broke down a couple of times (felt sorry for the new arrivals lugging their suitcases upstairs - no help from staff!!),that didn't put a damper on the stay.

Entertainment was great with the exception of the English couple singing west end musical songs, they forgot they were standing on a patio entertaining families in a Spanish resort, in their heads they were on a stage in London's west end. A lot of people complained about her manner and sarcastic comments about children, she actually said at the beginning of the show that if any child could not behave and be quiet the parents should leave before the show started. We stayed for the entertainment value and giggled as much as possible which irritated her!

Pool was good, but agree with other reviews, got irritated by people putting towels out early and not using the sun beds. Think the hotel should deal with this. All said, it was a great holiday and we will return to Hotel Uyal.

Beach sunbeds are not part of the hotel(10 euros/pair/day),
pool sunbeds are snatched up with towels placed on them but no bodies, for hours on end (dodgy guests from Pollensa Park). I suggest removing items nicely, jump in pool, then use empty beds without drying yourself (repeat frequently). Hotel nice, quiet, friendly. Suite functional, tidy. Balcony sea view through big palm trees/fronds, sun in morning. Entertainment three times a week, not a disco
