"Don't Be Deceived"
Travel date:

Cala d'Or. What a lovely place. Thoroughly enjoyed the place. Restaurants and bars were fab and local people very polite, but when I read peoples reviews, I thought 'there's always some numpty who doesn't like the accommodation and you can't please everyone all the time', but.......
1. No tea making facility. Reception told us no-one gets a kettle but it said on their web-site it was available.
2. We had to ask for a hair dryer. Again reception told us no-one gets a hair dryer until I showed her their web-site details. My partner and her daughter had to wait a day for a hair dryer.
3. There were ants in the kids' bedroom wardrobe. On closer inspection, there was a hole in the skirting board where the ants came in and out until we managed to block it off.
4. It said sky TV was available. The only channels available to us were Spanish. My partner's son is vary fair and part of the reason we booked this place was so he could watch TV when it was too hot outside, which, in August, I guarantee it was too hot for him.
5. The fridge/freezer door did not close properly. You had to raise the door up to shut it but it still didn't close correctly. We had to put the setting on full and that still only kept our food moderately cold.
6. The standard of our kitchen was absolutely nothing like the web-site picture. Obviously you show the 'show-house' kitchen on the site, hence deceiving the ordinary paying customer. It was that poor we actually ate out every night because the kitchen facility was very, very poor.
I'm sorry to have these comments but feel I should be brutally honest with you and maybe for the sake of the next customer.
What I will remind you of though is the place Cala d'Or is a lovely place.

"Playa Apartments are Fab!"
Travel date:
June 2008
We arrived on the 15th June 2008 with four children aged 12, seven, five and two. It was late in the evening. When we arrived at the Playa Ferrera apartments, the man on reception was very helpful, he showed us three different rooms (as I had requested: terrace, sea view and near pool). The last room was fantastic - eight steps from pool sea view (apart from bush in the way for privacy).
Beach is gorgeous but can get very busy between ten and one. Apartments are very clean. The only thing was if you have a pram, there are 56 steps down to the beach then 54 steps up to Ferrera town (the kids counted them every night).
The pool area was not busy and we had the pool to ourselves and a really nice Irish family for two weeks. If you are thinking of booking these apartments, the food is great. They do a really good deal for breakfast and evening meal. have a nice holiday.

"Playa Ferrera Apartments Are Really Good Value For Money"
Travel date:

We went as a group of four aged between 18-21 and had a fantastic time! The apartments, although basic, were clean and had everything you need for a self catering holiday. The staff were also friendly even with our late arrival. We stayed in block F which was only metres away from a Spar which is very handy for the beers (only 70 cents a can!).
There are six pools altogether varying in size. The closest one to us was only feet away and might as well have been private as we were the only four in it the whole holiday.
The town is about a five minute walk away up a slight hill and contains many bars, restaurants and little souvenir shops. We would definitely suggest visiting 'Andy's Bar' for the best pizza in the world! The karaoke bars were also a great night out and the bar 'Tropican' for tribute acts such as Abba, Take That, Neil Diamond etc although be warned, the drinks are expensive there. If you don't want to go into town there is also a nice restaurant directly opposite the reception which sells food to die for and the staff are lovely too.
The beach (Ferrera) is beautiful although down quite a few steps (could be a problem for the elderly or if with young children) and has crystal clear water but try and get there early for a good spot as it can get busy in the afternoon.
Overall we had a fantastic time and will definitely be going to the Playa Ferrera again!

"Playa Ferrera Apartments"
Travel date:
August 2004
We booked our holiday via Superior Resorts in January this year, but had actually booked to go to Alcudia. Two weeks before our date, we received communication from Superior Resorts that due to a 'technical error' our accommodation in Alcudia had not been booked, but that they had moved us to Playa Ferrera Apartments in Cala D'or.
There were eight of us in the party, which included three children aged 15, 10 and nine together with our six month old baby. The apartment was huge, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It fitted all of us in comfortably. We had a pool about ten steps away from our terrace (ground floor, double storey apartment). Pool was a good size and never over crowded. There are about seven pools overall in the Playa Ferrera. Our apartment was in a crescent about 200 yards from the reception. The Cala Ferrera beach was only 40 steps down from the apartment, but was busy (due to time of year). The management of Playa Ferrera was helpful. The apartments are quite old fashioned in their decor - but apart from that, they were completely adequate. There wasn't a microwave, but everything else was there. The Spar shop was only a few metres away, where we daily got fresh rolls and pastries. The apartments are both privately owned, RCI and rented via such companies as Superior Resorts. The pool was cleaned after one of the private owners arrived and complained. It was clean enough, but there was scum around the pool edgings. My only moan (and we all have to have one)! is that the travel cots that they provide need to be replaced as they do not have an adequate mattress on them. I have spoken to them about it as I ended up putting the baby in bed with me and my partner on the floor - but the baby got a great nights kip!! I had to pay around £30 for the travel cot for the two weeks.
There are gardens around the pool, which was great for us to keep the baby in the shade - it also gave some relief when the sun was out during the afternoon. The view of the cove is spectacular especially late at night. Our apartment was called 'Marina' and in an ideal location.
Not many companies will tell you that they have three bedroom accommodation - but ask - they are worth getting. The bedroom on the ground floor had two bunk beds in. Our bedroom, which had an ensuite bathroom, fitted the travel cot in comfortably. The second double bedroom had twin beds in (the same as ours). Our friends' 15 year old slept on the settee which she found really comfortable.
The main town is about 20 minutes walk away, however, there are also some other restaurants and bars closer. The Bar Carabel has happy hour between 8pm - 10pm. The La Bamba music bar just a couple of hundred yards away from the apartment, was by far the cheapest place to drink - ask my friend's husband and my partner- they drank there enough!!
Overall I would recommend Playa Ferrera. You are far away enough from the hustle and bustle of the main town and noise, but close enough to walk. You can cross over to the town quicker via the beach, but having a six month old baby in a buggy meant having to walk, but it was no problem at all.
For anyone with teenagers/young adults - Cala D'or may not be busy enough as there are not a lot of discos and bars, but plenty enough if you want to chill out and enjoy the town as it is. Very clean!!!
Watch out for the trips - they are a bit of a con! We booked to go to the water park in Magalluf via the First Choice rep at the apartments. I asked him how long the journey was, due to the baby. He told us it was only onehour away, so we booked. I ended up with a baby in my arms for a nearly 2 1/2 hour journey due to all of the pick up and drop offs! You also don't get to the water park till about 10.30am and you have to be on the coach ready to leave for 4pm. You would be better of hiring a car and taking yourselves as all of the coach parties leave at 4pm - leaving a half empty water park.
Book to go to Playa Ferrera - but don't book via Superior Resorts. The only compensation that we were offered from them was to pay our transfer costs!! Pretty diabolical seeing as though we booked seven months previously and the rest of our friends were still in Alcudia !!! I also had to sign a declaration that I would not pursue them for any further compensation before they would send a cheque for the transfer amount!!!!
