There were six of us, all adults, put in to a two bed apartment with a small living area. When we arrived, they realised this and moved us to two one bed apartments which we could only keep for a matter of two days, after which we were moved back to another two bed apartment, which we coped with due to the fact that we had a large balcony. We feel we should have been notified about this by the travel agent. Apart from that, we had a lovely stay and it was kept very clean and tidy.

Review title: "La Mirada Apartments"
Travel date: July 2005
Just back from two weeks in a two bed apartment at La Mirada with my wife and two boys 10 and 13. We thought the place was great, though we haven't had much experience of package holidays. This is only the second self catering apartments abroad that we have stayed at.

We found that 99.9 % of the staff were more than helpful, could all speak good enough English for us and worked really hard, particularly the garden and bar / restaurant staff. The cleaners seemed to have been in and changed the linen every couple of days.

The place was very clean, the food was good on the few days we tried it, namely first morning there for breakfast and a one day trial of the fully inclusive which fed the four of us all day for something like 40 Euro.

The apartments aren't exactly in Cala Dor as the main part is the other side of the marina. Easy enough walk but not when you are dragging kids with you. Taxi cost five euros one way to main shops / bars etc. Shops and plenty of eating places only two minutes walk for La Mirada. Didn't manage to get through them all. Ate in a few places more than once. The Spanish restaurant at the far end of the shops was excellent. My wife and I had a fish grill each with one litre of sangria for a total of 28 euros. We were stuffed after this grill of salmon, swordfish, hake, plaice, cuttlefish, mussels, prawns with baked potato and salad.

Didn't need to use any other beach than the one which is two minutes from apartments though we visited most of the others. Visted Aqualand in St Areall. Hired car from reception and got reduced price for park. Took glass bottomed catamaran from local beach for three hour trip round local bays. Got seasick as it was rough the day we went. Took small catamaran trip from Puerto Colom , Freebird 2, for four hour trip with barbeque, some free drink, snorkelling. Great day out though barbeque wasn't as much as I'd hoped for. Plenty of free wine and lager though.

Prices all seemed reasonable and a lot cheaper than Grand Canaria where we were a few years ago.

Pool at resort big enough for our two kids.

There were mostly Germans at these apartments though didn't bother us too much as you felt as though you were abroad more than if we had heard a lot of English spoken. Only downside was we didn't get into much company and the kids were lacking in kids to play with.

Just got back from spending two weeks at La Mirada. As a lot of people do nowadays, we read as many reviews as possible about the place to get an idea of what to expect and in general what we read was pretty much what we got. The place is clean and tidy, the rooms are clean and presentable although the housekeeping is a little below what most people would accept(we managed to obtain an ever increasing pile of dirt behind the bathroom door each day).

The pool was kept spotless with great supply of sun loungers and parrasols and we always found a space to park ourselves no matter what time of the day we got to the pool.

The place itself seams to be geared towards mainly the German guests with both the on-site entertainment staff finding it very hard to string a sentence together in English. Several times my youngest son was trying to have a game of pool only to find his German counterparts trying to take over. The daily game of waterpolo only ever consisted of two German teams.

The main downside to this place was the entertainments programme which, if we were being honest, is a joke. We, like most visitors on their first night, sat and waited for something to happen, to be greeted by one of our entertainment staff trying to arrange a game of you bet with, yes, you guesed it the Germans. The only ever time we caught a glimpse of the nightly entertainment package was a game of bingo with our resident staff having to ask guests to help with the English version of the numbers.

The resort itself is perfect. Its very clean and pretty with an ample selection of bars, restaraunts and shops. After reading many of the reviews on the resort we decided that the place to try was Tony's Bar situated in the main street through the resort, twice a day and two weeks later speaks for itself. The range of food covered everything anyone could want cooked to perfection and served by some of the most friendly helpful staff we have ever come accross even down to arranging and presenting my daughter with a birthday cake on the evening of her birthday. Victor, the owner's son, is one in a million. His English is great and nothing was ever a problem for him, even down to coping with my two kids who always wanted to mix and match the menu.

It was after our evening meal one night that we explained to Victor about our entertainment at La Mirada that he suggested trying Club Marthas located just around the corner. This we did and have just booked two weeks there next year (says it all).

Overall a good holiday, plenty of sun, great food and peace and quiet. Looking forward to going back next year but to a different hotel.

La Mirada was a nice hotel to stay in. The accomodation was very clean and spotless, the swimming pool was lovely!

The only complaint I have is about the night receptionist who could have done with being more friendly. Another problem was one day the electricity went off and they provided us with only one candle for light. Was anyone else there at the same time to experience this? Apart form that, I found it a delightful hotel with a friendly atmosphere.

This is a very friendly family hotel with a lot going for it. The staff are very helpful in all aspects. The hotel rooms are very clean with good balcony views of the pool or the well kept gardens. The pool is cleaned every night and is not full of clorine to be uncomfortable on the skin. The pool side has plenty of sunbeds (but be early) and parasols for those that need shade. We will be booking again to this hotel next year as we have made many many friends.

This apartment was lovely. When we arrived we had our worries as it was at night and they were playing bingo in a different language, but then as we went up into our apartment it was lovely and big and we had a lovely big view of the pool. The apartments were very clean and we had the maid coming every other day.

In our first week we didn't really know anyone and the children were getting a bit bored in the days but then in the second week we met a family from Birmingham so they were nice.

Overall the apartment was lovely. Might even come back :)

We arrived in Palma not knowing where we would be staying and were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at La Mirada. The hotel was beautiful. It was clean and very comfortable. We have since been on holiday elsewhere and did not enjoy it half as much.

Got a new baby due in four weeks so we will not be going anywhere this year but look out 2006, La Mirada. We will be back.

These opinions are those of HotelStreet visitors and not of HotelStreet.
