The luxury five star Parador de Leon is housed in a monastery which was originally founded in the 12th century to provide 'lodging for the poor of Christ' making their pilgrimage to Santiago. It later became the headquarters of the Order of Saint James whose soldiers provided protection for the pilgrims. The original building was demolished in the sixteenth century and the construction ot the present building, on the original site, commenced in 1515. Cloisters were added and improved between the 16th and 18th centuries, which look over the gardens.

Facilities at the Parador de Leon include public rooms filled with paintings, carvings and tapestries, a restaurant which specialises in the local dishes, air conditioning in the living rooms and the dining room, gift shop, bar and facilities hold business meetings.

This hotel has 195 twin rooms, 15 rooms with a double bed and 16 suites. All the rooms have a private bathroom. Some rooms are specially equipped for the disabled. In the rooms, there is a telephone, satellite television, safety deposit box and a mini bar.
