"Cala Nova"
Travel date:

We stayed at the Cala Nova (one adult, one child) in May this year. The apartment was lovely with plenty of room. There was one bedroom with twin single beds and a wardrobe more than big enough (plenty more drawer space as well). The bedroom had access to the balcony. The main room had two settees and a dining table with chairs. This was open plan into a small but adequate kitchen. The kitchen had a fridge, hob, kettle and toaster (all that was required for a decent breakfast). There was also enough crockery and cutlery for four people. The bathroom was very nice and clean. In there was a bath, shower, toilet and basin with a very large mirror and plenty of towels.
Maid service throughout the week was fantastic. We did try to make sure dishes were done, but on the odd occasion the maids did our dishes for us! Regular bed linen and towel changes and the maids mopped up and tidied daily.
This level of cleanliness was echoed throughout the complex. The bar and pool area along with the steps up to the complex were regularly cleaned.
Amenities include 24 hour reception (Oliver at reception was very polite and helpful), small shop, internet access, Sky TV and big screen TVs, sunbeds and umbrellas at the pool.
We found the reps to be very nice and friendly, along with Paul the entertainment guy. He made sure that both the children and adults had an enjoyable time and we would like to thank him especially.
Generally, there is very little to fault the Cala Nova for. The pool can get very slippery after a full day of the children jumping in and out (and is probably too small during busier months) but that's about it. There are lots of steps up to the complex and its all uphill from the beach but there are lifts if you don't feel energetic. However, if you do the steps a couple of times a day you'll go home more toned up than you went!
We went out every day of being there and thoroughly enjoyed each day. 1) Whale and dolphin trip from Puerto Rico beach (just straight down the road to the beach and then far right). Fantastic trip with crazy skipper! 2)Deep sea fishing (further down from the whale trip boat). Lovely full day out at sea catching rays and red snapper. Pricey but worth it. 3) Big Red! Speedboat that is terrifying but excellent. Based at entrance to harbour opposite where you get the Whale Trip tickets from. 4)Amadores Beach (can't stress this enough - it is gorgeous). Man made beach. When you get down to Puerto Rico harbour there is a path upwards and right. Walk round the coast (don't miss the lizards) and you will arrive at the beach. When there, go to 'Sinatras' for lunch - it again is lovely (and does a huge British Sunday dinner). There are other daytrips such as camels and zoos etc but we stayed quite local.
Finally - have a good holiday! We are trying desperately to book again for this summer but can't get any vacancies!

We stayed at Cala Nova for a week and what a fab time was had be all five of us. The staff and reps were so helpful. Very clean apartments. There is an entertainer at night and day. He is a laugh and good with kids and drunken parents! So now you have read this review, get your money together and go to cala Nova - you won't regret it.

In Cala Nova the bar staff and receptionist are very, very friendly. The hotel is guaranteed some entertainment most nights of the week including bird shows, live entertainment, reptile shows etc.
I really got friendly with the bar staff and was very annoyed to have to come back to England because the staff made me very welcome.
