Review title: "Extremely Overrated"
Travel date: August 2008
The Sol Costa Daurada hotel is extremely overrated. It should not be rated as a four star, only a three.

We have always stayed in four or five star hotels and last time we visited Salou, we stayed in the El Paso Hotel linked to the PortAventura Park and the Sol Costa Daurada didn't even come close.

Cannot fault the cleanliness of the hotel as it was kept very clean and anything that needed repairing like the hair dryer and the mirrored door on the wardrobe were fixed within minutes of reporting.

The main problem was the pool area was not nearly big enough for the size of the hotel and when the pool was packed, it was not a very nice place to be. The bar was supposed to be open until 1 a.m. but we were refused serving at 12:40 when we wanted a coffee and if you were in the bar, you were made to feel that the staff wanted you to leave because they turned off the lights early and put up the shutter doors, making you feel very unwelcome. Considering the hotel is in the middle of nowhere (where you can get a coffee at night time? You think they would let you get one in the bar).

There were not enough communal toilets in the common parts of the hotel and the ones that were there had broken locks and big holes in the doors.

The food was nice but the same thing every night so it got a bit boring and we ate out a few nights.

Also, I don't think the majority of the staff made the English very welcome and the dinner staff were very miserable.

Overall the hotel was OK but we will definately not be paying it another visit. Compared to other hotels it didn't come close.

Review title: "Go There, It's Great!"
Travel date: August 2008
I've just come back from the Sol Costa Daurada hotel and had a great time! The location is spot on. Don't believe what the brochures say as it's just a 15 minute walk to either the glorious sandy beach or busy town. The food is scrummy and set in very clean surroundings. We didn't move from the pool very often as my daughter (five years old) was more than happy to spend the whole holiday in there making new friends.

On the negative.
1. The hotel run kids' club is supposed to be for four to ten year olds. It's not. They cater for ten year old Spanish kids far too much. The English don't get a look in.
2. Night time entertainment is the usual stuff but as it's based outside, it can be very noisy until midnight, even if you're on the top floor!

All in all, we definitely want to go to Salou and possibly this hotel again, so perhaps we'll see you there?

Review title: "Sol Costa Daurada Is Very Nice"
Travel date: July 2005
This hotel is worthy of four stars. The rooms are a good size and very clean as is the whole hotel. In the dining room, the large buffet caters for most tastes with a mix of Spanish and British food which I found to be quite adequate and some evenings very enjoyable. The staff were very nice and friendly.

I would suggest though, if you like an early night, ask a room that does not have a pool view as the entertainment goes on there till midnight and can be quite loud. A very enjoyable stay.

It is a beautiful modern hotel, with nice friendly staff, from reception down to the maids; it is very clean with good facilities.

Now for the downside. The food. The fried bacon was mainly undercooked and the eggs were fried swimming in buckets of oil. The fruit was not fresh. The evening meal started off well with a nice joint of beef, and another evening saw a joint of pork, but what seemed to start off well soon went downhill with most nights only hamburgers by the score. There was other food which was nicely set out but was mainly for the Spanish guests. The soup was not heated before putting in the Bain Marie so if you went for your meal early, you got cold soup. As you can guess we ate out often. Enough said, we still enjoyed the holiday and will go back to Salou again.

These opinions are those of HotelStreet visitors and not of HotelStreet.
