"Would Not Recommend Hotel Sur"

Well, where do I start? I can't really think of one good thing to say about this hotel to be honest. If you do decide to go to this hotel, don't expect anything fancy. The bathroom was tiny you couldn't even sit on the toilet properly it was that close to the sink. The shower was like a drip and really small, the shower curtain was nothing fancy, it was very dirty and looked like it had never been cleaned. It definitely needs updating. The water didn't even come out of all the holes in the shower. The light in the bathroom kept flickering and at one point went off.
The room itself is very small. It had no kitchen area, just a bed and a safety deposit box. I don't think the sheets were ever changed the whole time I was there (two weeks). I don't think the cleaner actually cleaned to be honest. There was a mark on a mirror the whole time and I don't thing she ever cleaned the bathroom. Only thing she did was make the beds. She turned up when she felt like it, she didn't have set days - you never knew when she was going to come.
The water went off while we were there. When we asked what the problem was, they said it was the pump in the road and it would be back on within the hour. An hour later and still no water so we went and asked what was happening but no one seem bothered. After kicking up a fuss they let us use the shower room but that was nothing special - wires hanging loose and the lights didn't work. The water finally came back on during the night at about 2 a.m. (it had been off from about 6:30 p.m). but the day we left we heard it had happened again and the hotel staff were blaming it on the pump in the street but we actually over heard the staff taking saying 'we will have to get this pump sorted'. It was actually inside the hotel and had nothing to do with the pump in the street because the rest of the hotels near by were fine.
If you are looking for somewhere quiet, this is not the place for you. We were directly above the hotel bar called 'Pago Pago Beach' which played music till 4 a.m. in the morning with the same boring act on very other night. Dave use to play Wed, Fri, Sun, and Ricky and Goran used to play Tues, Thurs and Sat with LJ on a Monday. It was OK the first time you heard them but after than it got too much because it was overplayed and they sang the same songs. The police would usually turn up at 12 because music was meant to be off at 12 unless it was sound proof which it wasn't. There was a barman called Ian who was very friendly who gave you a free drink when you arrived.
The pool is nothing to talk about - very small. There were sun beds but no parasols. Never went to the pool as it didn't look inviting.
There was no air con in the room. There were fans you could hire for about 35 euros for two weeks.
There is a lovely little beach a five minute walk away. It was rocky in the sea but if you go past where the life guards are near the rocks, it shallow and you can walk out there. There is a nice harbour just up the road with some lovely restaurants. I would recommend 'Smithy's' near the harbour and 'The London Inn' around the back of the hotel. You get extra big dinners there. There is a nice restaurant in Cala Millor called the 'Sun Deck' - they do a lovely lasagne. It's a bit of a walk but its definitely worth it. It's in with all the shops and one place I would hugely recommend is the 'Sweet Shop' which is just up the road. When you come out of the hotel turn left and it's just up the road. They do lovely sandwiches and they put a lot in them too. They have a big variety and they do the cheapest ice creams too. The people who work there are all English and very friendly we ate there every dinner time.
Places I would not recommend are 'Brother Bear' and 'Yates' - was not impressed at all. We found a nice little bar which did nice English breakfast's called 'Sonny's' bar - very nice and very friendly staff. We only ate once at the hotel for breakfast and it was disgusting. Food was cold and it looked like it had been warmed up if it wasn't used the day before. Definitely not worth four euros at all. I would definitely not go back to hotel Sur but I would go back to Cala Bona as it was a nice little place. All I can say is good luck to any one who has booked to go there.
