Stayed there with my wife and two children and thought the Playazul was a nice place to stay. We didn't see one cockroach in our apartment. The female receptionists were absolutely fine with us, as well as the staff at the pool bar.

Sometimes some Spanish lads would invade the pool but that was usually about 5 p.m. when we were ready to go.

Watch out for the taxi drivers in Las Americas because I took my family to 'The Patch'(family area) and coming back in the taxi they would charge as little as three euros and as much as seven euros for a trip lasting one minute so ask they how much before you get in.

All I will say is that eight friends went on holiday. We stayed in 'Y' block and were robbed three times. Great holiday or what!

There were six of us that stayed in Playazul for a week and we all thought it was excellent value for money. We had two rooms(114x and 115x) which was really helpful being next to each other. The apartments were really spacious and although there was no air con, the ceiling fans were fine for me at night time. Our sheets and towels were changed every other day. There was sufficient cutlery and a kettle.

Playazul is literally a two minute walk to Starcos and Veronicas strip so wasn't far to stumble back after a night out! The staff were all really friendly and helpful. I'm definitely staying here again next year!

Review title: "Ideal Location But Far From Ideal Treatment!"
Travel date: July 2007
The hotel is ideally located for people interested in partying into the small hours as it is only a few minutes walk from the strip but the staff at the hotel were very unhelpful.

On our first night we spotted a cockroach in the bathroom but thankfully it didn't return. On the second day we were informed by the receptionist that we were being billed for towels which were dirty - we hadn't used any as we'd all taken our own! On trying to resolve this matter we were subjected to some very patronising behaviour and eventually had to accept that we were not going to get away with it due to the fact that someone has to surrender their passport to the reception at check-in. Also, 60 euros has to be left there, which is what they took the 21 euros for dirty towels out of.

Inidentally, on the day of our departure, we were informed that the towels weren't dirty but were 'broken'? For some reason, we all got the impression that this type of thing could be quite a regular occurrence with groups of lads. If I was to go back I'd make sure I was there when the maid came in to clean and have her sign a form to say the room was fine. Otherwise the chances of saying goodbye to a large chunk of the deposit could be quite high.

Review title: "Avoid Playazul"
Travel date: August 2006
I have just arrived back from Tenerife for my week's holidays with my friend. I can tell you that our opinions are mutual and the hotel Playazul is dreadful. Other than it being close to all the clubs, shops and beach, there is nothing to offer. I would say it is a minus one star hotel with nothing to accommodate its visitors.

The place was accommodating a lot of Spanish youths (who obviously were on their holidays). This lot felt they owned the place and would often on a daily basis take up the pool. They were even throwing eggs over their balcony on the roadside.

Firstly, on arrival in the night, the receptionist on duty could not speak English and therefore could not provide the info needed. We were given the wrong directions to our room meaning we walked up four flights of stairs to get to section Z when we could have easily walked back through reception and round by the pool, although it was still a struggle.

The rooms were terribly hot in the night (harder to deal with than the nightlife) as there is no air conditioning, but ceiling fans, that were not very useful anyway. We had a self-catering studio which had very old, minor kitchen utensils that I advise you to soak overnight.

Advice to you, bring some extra cash to accommodate your stay in the hotel. You will need 60 euros to give at check-in (breakage fee), 14 euros for safe rental and six extra euros for the safe key. Of this you will only get the six euros and the breakage fee back at the end of your stay.

If you intend to use the TV, rent it for your stay as it may be cheaper. It's three euros a night from midday to midday. However, I was annoyed that it would cut off at all different times in the morning before 12.

The reception staff are quite unhelpful and rude except for the women receptionists. Any problems with your room will be welcomed with a patronising attitude. They have a habit of speaking and taking the mick in Spanish about you while you are standing there.

Be prepared for the odd stares from the locals and Spanish visitors. For anyone booking excursions, go to Metz located on the road same as The Columbus Hotel.

Area is cool, loads of restaurants although the shops all sell the same things. The beach has black sand but one of the best beaches I have come across in Spain. A good restaurant I recommend is ‘Moli' located at the beginning of the restaurants coming from the beach behind Veronica strip.

All the clubs are cheap and offer two for one on drinks. ‘Tramps', ‘The Mett', ‘Oasis', ‘Waikiki' and ‘Busby's' are good for R'n'B, Hip Hop (recent) but do go to ‘Yates' to lap up cheap drinks before you head to these places. ‘Tramps' and ‘Buisbu's' especially do not get busy till after one. Weekends are busier.

Hotel Columbus or Tenerife Sol may be better options for you.

Review title: "Playazul - Not Much Sleep!"
Travel date: February 2006
I have just got back from staying in Playazul with my husband, brother and sister in -law and we all feel like we could sleep for a month. On arrival we were allocated room 177x and all seemed fine until we went to bed. As we lay there, I had to keep reminding myself that we were actually in a bedroom as we felt like our bed had been moved and placed in to the middle of a disco. We couldn't believe the amount of noise from the music, people shouting and screaming, and the D.J who seemed to love the sound of his own voice as he shouted over the microphone every two minutes. Eventually at 3.45 a.m. we gave a sigh of relief as the air went very quiet and the words SLEEP passed before us. Just as we were starting to drift, we were woken again by a grinding and roaring sound mixed with glass bottles being smashed. Yep, you've guessed it; the 12 bins outside our room were now being emptied by the bin men. Eventually at 4.15 a.m. all was quiet but by now we were all to angry to sleep.

We decided that one night in this room was enough and asked to be moved. We were allocated to two studios, which meant we had to separate from our relatives. These were situated at the back which was a lot more quiet but Yates and Linekers etc could all be heard until 3.30 a.m. - 4.00 a.m. every night and people shouting on their way home.

We have stayed in Playa de las Americas four times and never written a review before as we don't expect five star treatment if we haven't paid for it. We don't mind basic accommodation, in fact, we are quite easily pleased. We have three teenagers so we are used to loud music and groups of drunk friends staying around at weekends. We feel that people should be warned of the noise level especially in room 177x as it is placed directly above a night club and a bar with live music and karaoke and there is another bar opposite the bedroom window.

Sorry if this spoils your holiday plans. Sheets and towels changed every other day. Swimming pool and cafe excellent. Studios very clean.

I went to this apartment with a mate in January this year. Rooms are very basic but clean. Lots of steps - we were right at the bottom, right next to the pool though :o). The receptionist didn't seem very welcoming but helpful during the stay.

Very close to nightlife and beach only few minutes walk. Swimming pool was a big let down with it being freezing cold even in the heat of the day. Overall a nice place, friendly staff and very close to everything!

The apartment was very adequate, although there are a lot of steps. There was no view from apartment. Wall one side, apartment block from other. This was not a problem. Just a minor detail, however, the cockroaches that invaded the apartmentr each night were NOT appreciated. Make sure you take some roach spray and leave your lights on when you go out at night.

Travel date: December 2004
Great location. If you're looking some to lay your drunken head, on budget, then this is the place! In the centre of everything! Very short walk to the strip.

First impressions not good with all the steps and having to cart luggage up and down about five flights of them! No good for people with walking difficulties, prams, general laziness or phobia of stairs!

Rooms very basic, but very clean! (after the maids had been in that is!) No sign of any cockroaches, thank goodness!

Pool was nice, but very, very cold! What else is to be expected though?! It was December! Hilarious watching new comers take a dive into the icy thing though! Soon got out.

Love Tenerife (apart from all the mithering people, but hey, they've got to earn a living somehow!) Going back this March! Woooo!

Bit unsure when first arrived - loads of steps - keeps you fit. The studio was basic but very clean - maids came everyday to empty the bins/change towels twice a week. Friendly night security guard - always had a smile; lady at the pool bar not very friendly though!. Best thing about the Playazul only a two minute walk to the bars/beach.

DJ in Metz brilliant - very funny as was the DJ in Brannigans. Definately will be returning.
