We have just returned from a week's stay at the Playa de Oro hotel. Our room was on the first floor overlooking the pool. Some three doors down, the corridor under the balcony was an outside shed what looked like an outside bar but was never used by the hotel. It was used by the local thieves to climb up and gain entry onto the balconies. While asleep, we were robbed of two hand computers, two mobile phones and a digital camera by thieves climbing up and entering our room. We found out at the police station that the lady two doors down had also been robbed the same night, the same way, again while asleep in the room. After informing the manager, he stated 'they normally just take money'. The locks on the doors are very hard or not able to lock. This is an ongoing crime at the hotel because after viewing the shed more closely, the thatched roof has a large dip in it were the robbers jump back down and the hotel staff knew exactly were to look for the stolen items where they found the lady's stolen purse minus the money.

So be aware to lock balcony doors at night no matter how hot you may be.

The food is so bad everyone starts to eat out after their first day there. Apart from that, the hotel rooms are very clean. The bar staff are always smiling but the entertainment is rubbish. This is a hotel to give a miss.
