"Good Hotel!"
Travel date:
June 2008
We booked this at short notice. To be honest, we were not
expecting The Ritz and, on arrival, in the middle of the night, after dropping guests off at the most magnificent hotels, we were a little apprehensive. First impressions not particularly good, but next morning things changed.
The hotel is small, family run and really clean. The pool areas are great for kids with one having a double water slide that the kids can use twice a day for about an hour each session. The good thing is, it is really informal. The food and drink is very competitively priced, cheaper than Side village. Watch out down there - it's nearly all priced in euros and a right rip off!
The staff are really good fun (top marks to Mehmet and Shakespeare) and are always having a laugh.
Breakfasts are the usual eggs, tomatoes, bread etc but you can get a cooked one for extra payment.
The location is outside Side proper but if you walk to the main road you can get a bus (dolmus) for one lira each way. Stick your hand out and they pull over anywhere! On the corner next to the hotel is the 'Sultan' restaurant which is really good and reasonably priced. Try their picnic trip for a day out. Much better than anything the tour reps can offer you! There is a big market once a week and another smaller one once a week about 200 yards from the hotel but stay away from their indoor cafe. Its a con, no prices displayed, and double the price of anywhere else. Beers normally around three lira were six in there! Don't go anywhere where prices are in euros or there is no price displayed, other than the little cafe at the dolmus station that as the most gorgeous dog and puppies. My little lad wanted to adopt one! Regards to all we met!

"Gazipasa"
Travel date:

This hotel is quite basic but it is well worth the money. We had a fantastic holiday. We went from the 25th August until the 8th September and the weather was brilliant. We had one day of rain but apart from that, it was so hot.
The self catering apartments are quite small but are cleaned every day (but at the end of the day you only sleep in the room). The bar staff are very nice and helpful and the food is very nice and around the same price as in the town.
The town is very busy and there is a wide selection of shops but you have got to be prepared to haggle otherwise they will just rip you off. There is also a wide selection of restaurants and bars in the town. You can get to the town by walking which will take about 20-30 minutes or you can catch the dolmus which is about two lira per person. You can catch this from anywhere. There is a free minibus from the hotel which takes you to dolphin beach at about 10 a.m. and brings you back at about 4 p.m. You also get your sun beds free if you tell them that you are from Gazipasa Hotel.
Last thing, if you come out of the hotel and turn left, then there is a restaurant called 'The Sultan'. It is brilliant there. The food is excellent and some nights they do Turkish dancing. The staff are so friendly and we love them to pieces. They treated us like family. We would go back just to see them. So overall, I loved this holiday, but if you do not want a basic hotel then I wouldn't advise you to go to Gazipasa, but it is good and the pool is very big. Also, there are water slides.

"Gazipasa - Family Hotel"
Travel date:

This is a family run hotel for families that want a fairly reasonable priced holiday. They are very friendly people and make you feel welcome. The rooms are always very clean and the self catering apartments are very spacious and of a good standard. The pool area is clean with natural surroundings, just last year they added two water slides into a separate splash pool. The slides are not on all the time. There is also a pool bar open all day for snacks, then in the evening. This changes the pool side into a very relaxing restaurant. We have had several meals here and all have been very good. Also a couple of nights a week they have entertainment, Turkish night, BBQ or reps bingo!
If you want a change of scenery on a evening there are some great eating places within a few minutes walk. Outside of the hotel, the beach is within ten minutes walking which takes you right past the local mosque, which is worth a visit, the hotel's daughter (Seyda) will take you - take your camera. There are two beaches, both clean with water sports of all kinds. The beach sun beds are free if you buy drinks/food from the beach bars! Just outside the hotel on Saturdays is a market. This is a must if you like to barter for the fake gear that is very cheap. The market gets very hot so take water with you.
You can organise your own trips very easily through the shops in Side town centre which you can take a walk (25 minutes) or jump on the dolmus (minibus). There is one must if you stay at Gazipasa, go on the picnic with the Sultan restaurant, which is at the end of the road. These guys are great. They will take you to a nice spot for swimming/sunbathing; they will feed and water you all day long, then take you in the mountains to show you the views. All for a snip of the price of what you would pay in the town.
If you go to Gazipasa you will have a great holiday. Say hello to the family: mum, dad and their daughters Shula, Seyda and Tugba. We are going this year for our third year.
