"Hotel Ancla"
Travel date:
June 2008
Stayed at hotel Ancla last week for a week and I have to say I have never met such miserable bar staff in my 12 years of travelling. We went all inclusive for the first time and it really put me off. The bar staff do not know the meaning of a smile - they are miserable 24/7. We were served beer in plastic glasses that did not even resemble a half pint. In fact, they were a quarter of a pint if I was honest and if you went up for a beer, you didn't even get the glass half full. If you complained, you were just looked at like you had gone mad.
It was baking heat and there was no air conditioning. Went down to ask to hire a fan and they looked at me like I was daft - they do not do fans, you just have to grin and bare it. In fact, we had to go out and buy one as you just couldn't sleep in the heat.
The noise is horrendous at night so prepare yourself for that and we were put on the back part which has traffic 24/7. In fact, the whole hotel has traffic all the way round. They fail to mention that.
On a good note, I could not fault the food - it was excellent for daytime and evening, but if you want full English, you have no chance. Cereal choice is OK but only if you like warm milk with it as I am sure they don't know the meaning of putting it in the fridge overnight.
Rooms are very basic, not really kept that clean, although towel change is every day.
Beaches in Fenals and Lloret OK but prepare for the sand as it's like walking on glass. It's very shingly and the sea is quite hard to get in to as it's a bit of a drop in depth as you get in and that, combined with the sharpness of sand, is quite an effort so put some old trainers or something on your feet. Would I return to Lloret? Maybe. Would I return to the hotel Ancla? Not a chance.
If you are young and single, it may suit you but if you are a 40 year old couple and like a good drink, I wouldn't bother. It would take you two days to get drunk on the size of the glasses and the amount they give you. You have been warned.
By the way, when you look at the pictures of the pool area, it looks massive. I can assure you, if you are like me and love a big pool, you are being fooled. It is tiny and you could probably get ten people in there and it would be full. Spa is nice and the solarium is good.

"Ancla A Definite No No For English Visitors"

First impression looks nice, clean, tidy, good facilities, spacious restaurant and friendly staff.
Night time entertainment ribbish - six out of seven nights a Spanish disco.
I must therefore warn you also that this is not a family friendly hotel and if you take your children you must be mad. There is very little for kids to do and no entertainment for them what so ever.
If you go all inclusive, your time finishes at 12 on day of departure and your band removed.
Hotel caters for mostly German students and elderly Spanish but other than that it was not a bad price at £242 per person all inclusive. If you are going and you've read this, just have a good one.

"Ancla, OK"

Didn't love it but didn't hate it! They definitely do not cater for English and they don't expect us to go there! On very busy road, was woken up each night by people singing and shouting on main road and in hotel. Didn't like food (was all inclusive) so ate out lots. 'Hungry Horse' is great - across road.
Beach nice and picturesque but 'sand' is grit and hurts feet! Got very crammed when sunny. Only had one day of sun and so filling time was difficult as we planned to sunbathe for five days!

"Ancla Food Is Disgusting And Uncooked"
Travel date:
August 2007
The hotel was clean but the rooms were very cramped. There was no holiday rep.
The food was uncooked (the inside of the beef burgers was red/chips were soggy), repetitive, stone cold and disgusting.
This hotel is not for the British and definitely not for children. Apart from having uncooked burgers at the piscina bar, there was no other English food for my children. The whole family had the runs.
The hotel staff did not speak English and at times found certain members of staff to be very rude. My children would go to the bar asking for drinks and would be ignored. The staff in the restaurant even switched the drink machine off ten minutes early and refused to give my son a drink.
I would not recommend anyone to book the Ancla as it is poor value for money. I paid £1,200 for one week all inclusive for two adults and two children and never ate a decent breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The entertainment was minimal and the kids got bored after the third day of being there.

"Hotel Ancla Is Average"

HThe Ancla hotel does not really cater for children. Entertainment in evenings is not for the British. Food was OK. Hotel was very clean and staff were very nice.
The hotel is based right next to busy road so it is quite noisy but it is only ten minutes walk from beach.
These opinions are those of HotelStreet visitors and not of HotelStreet.
