"Aquarius Apartments Are Far From Great"
Travel date:
July 2008
Ended up at the Aquarius apartments after a two week stay at Hotel Ficus, Costa Teguise, after I was unable to travel home due to one of my kids being ill. However I was shocked at the standard of accommodation.
When I drove up to the place, it looked very nice. The staff at reception were extremely helpful and asked if I could take a seat until they sorted out the paperwork. This is where it all changed. I sat on the couch in reception. I think I would have been more comfortable sitting on a piece of lava rock. Anyway off to my room I went (room 210). As I passed around the edge of the pool, I noticed that it was very deep, if I'm correct in saying, 1.65 metres at the shallow end. The water was murky and I struggled to see the bottom of the pool. I climbed the stairs to my room, which may be an issue for the elderly and into my room I went.
It had a worn out sofa bed and one chair, patio doors over looking the pool and a large balcony which was a sun trap with four chairs and a patio table. There was a strong smell coming from the toilet. The bath had no enamel on the bottom. The taps dripped all night and I had to put plugs in the sink and bath in an attempt to stop the stench. The bedroom was clean and tidy with plenty of storage. The next day I made my way to the large sun terrace which gets the sun all day long. The terrace is made of concrete and is breaking up in several places which is very uncomfortable on the feet. The poolside bar was very expensive (ten euros for three soft drinks).
There are plenty of bars nearby and small nice resturants in the old town. The main beach is about a 20 minute walk from the hotel, as are all the larger pubs and resturants. Overall I would rate this accommodation as poor, in need of refurbishment and a good clean.

"Needs Some Money Spending"

This accommodation offers the best location in the resort. Yes, there are many stairs but forewarned is forearmed.
But it certainly needs a good overhaul. Not a good start was our room was not ready until 16.00 hours. On asking why at reception, I was told it's not my problem, the cleaners have not finished - a great welcome. The room itself was spacious but the chipped furniture did nothing to enhance its appearance.
The food was of a fair quality, plentiful, but cold and only Pepe seemed as if he was enjoying his work as I saw no one else raise a smile.
The pool was freezing and we saw only two people swimming in the 14 days we were there. The bottom of the pool had many tiles missing, not good for little feet.
The bar area was austere and again the staff didn't look happy. I felt really sorry for anyone on all inclusive.
The couple of shows we did see were good but how they performed with the one aged amplifier was a credit to anyone.
Overall how the Aquarius is rated as a three key amazes me and I will not be travelling with Thomas Cook again.

"Aquarius Apartments"

My holiday was really good in Lanzarote. I went with my mum, dad and sister. We stayed at the Hotetur Aquarius Apartments in Puerto del Carmen. The pool was really nice, a good size, and not very crowded, which was good. There was a baby pool, which was 65 centimetres deep and the shallowest part of the proper pool was 1.5 metres.
The bar was really nice and the service was very friendly. There was also a poolside shop, which sold drinks and meals. The kids' club there was good, with activities such as skittles and darts tournaments. There were good facilities at the apartments, such as two pool tables and a table tennis pitch, along with a table football. The facilities took a two euro deposit which you get back (but you had to pay to use them, get the balls etc.).
The shops were only a minutes walk down the road, and there were a lot of Irish bars. The closest restaurants were about two minutes walk away, and there was a really nice Polish restaurant that was just 30 seconds away.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Hotetur Aquarius. There was maid service five days a week, and good fiesta season, which was the time we went. They had a live band every night at the fiesta, and a massive big fairground, which you get a slight bit of noise from. I would definitely go there again.
