On arrival at the Sands Beach Villas, all appeared OK until you scratch the surface. The understaffed reception area caused delays in checking in. Phone calls to reception were given preference over whatever is happening at the desk, regardless of the length of the queues waiting to check in etc. Queues were very long most days.

The first accommodation allocated to us bared no resemblance to the brochure picture. It was grubby, shabby and very tired. The bedding was damaged and worn, pillow cases were too small for the tatty pillows, the bath was rusty, paintwork was damaged and was dirty throughout the one bedroom apartment. The glass in the coffee-table was damaged and the accommodation was only set up for three people for towels. In addition to this, the sofa-bed and soft furnished chair in the lounge area had dirty and damaged upholstery.

Avoid the restaurant food - we had take-away once. It was disgusting and ended up in the bin.

Most worrying feature is that there were no smoke alarms in the apartments and the second apartment we eventually got moved to had no protective cover over the electricity consumer unit because it was too close to the water fire extinguisher. A chair had also been conveniently been left under this unit making it too easy for any inquisitive child climb on.

We had to phone reception every day for the first ten days of this 'holiday' for things ranging from loosing the electricity supply when we used the cooker to chasing up bedding and towels that did not get changed when they should have.

There was a complimentary can of cockroach spray left for us in the kitchen area, but we thankfully did not need it.

The lagoon stank, the pools were freezing cold and the one heated pool usually had patches of who-knows-what floating on its surface most days. My kids got out both times they used it as they felt it was dirty.

Nothing much for our children. The internet access was forever faulty, tennis court always booked as not much else to do and any extras came at a cost.

The staff did try hard to sort things themselves, but we were not aware of any senior management personnel being present to sort our problems - all our help came from two very good reception staff.

We read some poor reviews before we went, but went with positive, open minds, but we now regret the day we booked Sands Beach for a holiday. Beware! No way a four star resort.

My wife and my daughter and myself have just come back from Sands Beach Villas and it was terrific! Without any doubt the best holiday we have ever had.

Apartments, swimming pool, helpful staff and a marvellous atmosphere in the complex made it a fantastic holiday and I just had to post my comments as soon as I returned, which was today - 31/07/08.

Clean, spacious and well equipped apartments. Any problems we had needed one 'phone call and the staff dealt with any issues immediately and very courteously!

Swimming pools and surrounding areas are absolutely spotless and well maintained. Plenty of space to sunbathe and lots of sun beds. Clean towels daily for your sun beds so you don't need to pack any towels - just a tip.

Excellent bars and restaurants just five to ten minutes walk from the Sands Resort.

Be aware of the 'Teguise Breeze' - it is extremely deceiving!
First class and well worth the money. Enjoy your holiday - we did!
