First of all, the rooms in the Amaraigua hotel were shabby. There was blood and dead bugs all over the ceilings and walls.
The food was virtually the same every day and I'm not a great fan of horse meat. The pool, unlike the photos, was barely three metres in length and there was not any green grass surrounding.
However, the staff were friendly and very helpful. Hope this can be of help.

I was worried sick after reading the reviews for the Amaraigua hotel and even tried to change my booking. Lucky I didn't. I was pleasantly surprised as it was excellent for the price we paid. Very clean room. We were in 116 facing the railway but we hardly heard the trains and they stopped running during the night anyway.
The food was OK, not brilliant, but plenty and a microwave if you wanted to really warm it up. The staff were all extremely friendly and it was such a small hotel it had a family atmosphere. I really enjoyed as did my husband. We had a flamenco show one night and that was excellent - not the usual run of the mill dancing - they even played the drums which I have never seen in flamenco before.
I must say that I would certainly go back to this hotel again as it was excellent value for money. The towels were brilliant white, the bed clean, extra pillows were delivered as soon as we requested them and also extra blankets. We certainly cannot see how so many people complain about this hotel. I have been in four star accommodation that wasn't as good as this in Spain and since my husband and I are both retired, we go on about ten holidays a year so we have seen plenty. Best of luck to the Amaraigua hotel and all the excellent, happy staff. We enjoyed being there with you all.

"Amaraigua Is Value For Money"

We booked this location because of time and price. We went with an open mind and only three requirements - clean room, edible food and courteous staff. We were pleasantly surprised with all three. OK, some of the dishes on the servery were not to our taste, but then they were catering for at least five nationalities. We always found something that was palatable and well cooked.
Our room was always kept clean and towels were replaced daily and as for the staff, they were very polite and always helpful. The entertainment varied from very good to average and the only observation was that it sometimes started at 10 p.m. However, it always stopped before midnight.
I would recommend the Amaraigua to mature people who want a break and only one week at a time, as Malgrat del Mar is not the liveliest place. The hotel is well situated for access to the town, which is across the road via an underpass. The beach is at the back door! But remember it is three star and that is all!

"Beware!"

Hello. Me, my partner and my two year old son stopped at the hotel Amaraigua in September for one week. One week was far too long there. We only booked this hotel as we read that it was a three star and what we read sounded very nice. We had a huge shock when we arrived.
We arrived at about two in the afternoon and were told we had to wait a while as our rooms was not ready. The reception looked quite nice and clean so we weren't that disappointed at first. When we arrived at our room we had a lovely balcony and view of the sea. We had to share our balcony with three other rooms but it was really big. The rooms were tidy but not clean at all. The floors were filthy. We had our towels changed ever other day but we had to ask someone to change the bedding.
The food was awful, there wasn't anything for children and it tasted like it had been sitting there all week. We found a lovely English bar called 'Eureka' just down road and all though the hotel was all inclusive, we ate at 'Eureka' for every meal the whole week, so it was a lot more expensive than we expected.
We also had a problem with hundreds of ants in the room. Every day people were changing rooms and complaining and no-one we spoke to was at all happy with the accommodation or food. We will never be going back there and I really advise you not to waste your money. It shouldn't be a three star as it shouldn't be eligible for any stars at all!

The hotel was right on the beach. The entertainment was OK and there was always something you could eat in restaurant. Rooms were cleaned daily. I found staff lovely and an ideal base to jump on the train and visit lots of places. Was cheap for all inclusive. Would go back to the Amaraigua.

"What a Disappointment"

I have just returned from the above hotel after a week fully inclusive and I must say that this turned out to be a lot more expensive due to the fact that the food on offer was pork, pork, pork or horse. Chips are on the menu every day but these are normally cold and chewy! The variety was pathetic and was absolutely disgusting and I wouldn't feed it to my dog. Both myself and my partner had chronic diarrhoea and even though we took pills to resolve this, we still had to go out to eat as we would have starved if we hadn't.
The hotel staff in the majority were miserable and unhelpful and quite rude at times (except the girl on reception and the entertainers). While we were there, guests had belongings stolen from their rooms, had belongings stolen from around the pool and when the water was turned off, they even got buckets of water out of the swimming pool and took this into the kitchen.
The leaflet we picked up in reception does not match the hotel itself. The children's swimming pool is not in use and there is only one pool for everyone else.
However the good points are the rooms were cleaned every day and the bathrooms were clean (even though there were two pairs of men's underwear on top of the wardrobe which didn't belong to either me or my partner). Good job they provided so much toilet roll or I would have spent a fortune on this item. Very disappointing as we went all inclusive and I personally ate hardly anything and my partner completely lost his appetite. I will never go to this hotel again and I found the resort itself a bit naff. Karaoke was good so thank to the entertainers. Also if you are travelling around during the day or night please keep your belongings safe as there are quite a few robberies that happen in the underpass which you need to use to get to the main road.
There are some really great pubs in the main shopping street: 'Rovers' Return', 'Robin Hood', 'Legends' and 'New Crown and Anchor' - these offer really great food at reasonable prices.

I stayed in this fantastic hotel last October. I went there with my family and some friends, a party of 20. Everything was incredible: reception, bar, restaurant, rooms and the staff is very helpful.
All our rooms were bigger than we expected and very clean. We will come back next year! Congratulations for the manager!

The Amaraigua hotel was really bad! All inclusive but you had to be brave to eat! Was served up pigs cheek one night and another night told that the meat was dodo! Amazing since they're extinct! Bar snacks available if all you want to eat is hot dogs in stale rolls, cold pizza or chips!
First room awful - mouldy ceiling in the bathroom. Second room mostly clean apart from a used plaster in the shower!
Scary subway outside in which we were offered cocaine! (You must pass through this to get into Malgrat.) Best to get out as often as possible. Can get a train into Barcelona which is beautiful and the market in Blanes is good!

Hotel, for the price, was great. Food very basic but good for what you pay. Room that we had, 213, was fantastic. Couldn't ask for a better view of the sea. They could do a little better cleaning though but good.
Had no problems going out at night. Overall had a great time and thanks to the bar man Jesus, yes, that's his name, also Inge in reception and Marc the reception manager. A pleasure to deal with them.

"Disappointed One Week Guest"
Travel date:
May 2006
Myself and sisters, daughters and nieces stayed at this hotel from the 22 May 2006 until the 29 May and the week could not have ended sooner. The food was nothing to be desired: chips with everything, even at the snack bar. If I never see a chip again it will be too soon. The bar staff seemed friendly until their bar manager noticed and was very abrupt with them, and my sister who only asked for two drinks which was allowed with us being all inclusive. He refused her because the rest of the family still had their drinks. I did complain to the reception. They didn't seem to understand until I said I didn't realise we had to drink at the same pace as everyone in our group. We gave up after three days and ate elsewhere and drank which cost us.
The cleaners are nothing to be desired. We had no clean bedding all week. They made our beds though, bless them. There was a tissue on the floor when we arrived and it was still there when we left. I had to clean the bathroom myself. We went to reception on several occasions for toilet rolls because we all had stomach problems and none was left in our rooms. They finally gave us one of those large toilet rolls in the evening and god bless the cleaner, the next morning she took it away and we had to go and ask all over again.
I have never complained about an holiday before and I'm disappointed I have to now. By the way, if you go out at night please make sure there are plenty of people with you because there are no lights outside the hotel leading to the subway and there are lots of young beach boys hanging around that you cannot see until you bump into them.
I would love to tell you about Tristan and Ilse who were the children's entertainers - they were lovely. Good luck to them this summer.

My family and I have just returned from our holiday. We found this hotel to be clean but very basic. It was all inclusive but we found we could not eat in the hotel as the food was not of a standard we liked. This holiday cost a lot more than our budget as we had to spend extra money on food that we had already paid for.
It quotes a full entertainment programme but we did not find this. The day time activities were non existent and the evening very poor.
The hotel is next to the railway line so if you are in the front, like we were, you can hear the train all the time. To reach the shops you need to go under a subway which is okay until it rains hard because then it floods. The beach is on your door step but is very coarse. I will not be returning to this hotel.

We are just back from a weeks holiday at this hotel. The first thing we noticed was the fantastic location right on the beach and literally five minutes from all the shops bars etc. The hotel was clean, the rooms basic but again clean and tidy. The towells changed every day. The food was better than I thought it would be.
The only down side was the beach as it was very coarse sand and almost impossible to walk on in bare feet as it would cut you. Also the sea was very dangerous for yongsters as it shelved out very steeply and the break was strong enough to pull adults in and out.
But overall we were very pleased with our stay here and the weather was superb.

This was a great hotel. Drinks available all day which we took down onto the beach..... snacks too, which made a huge difference to the amount we spent... or, should I say...... didn't spend. Lovely and clean. Fresh towels every day. Fantastic view if at the back of the hotel.... looking over the sea and terrace area. Food was very good...... no need for anyone to go hungry. Staff very friendly.
We had a great time as the weather was in the high 70's even in October. Lots to see and do around Malgrat. Going back again in July, can't wait. If you do go.... have a good time, I'm sure you will.
