"Disapointing But Adequate"
Travel date:
October 2005
We were originally meant to be staying at the Don Gregorio but our tour operator (Thomson) seemed to make a few slip ups, and when we arrived there, the non Spanish speaking receptionist couldn't find our name on the list. After ten minutes in his office (a glorified broom cupboard) he emerged and said we were at the Mariscal III, ten minutes walk away. However, we needed to leave 60 euros deposit with him.
The Mariscal III is very basic, the road outside is noisy and the drains 50 yards away smelt awful. The room was comfortable but not totally clean, and the cooker did not work (presume it had run out of gas, and had been so for a long time.) It was in an ideal position and it had a reasonably sized swimming pool. Unfortunately during our week's stay, the pool was only open once. Seems it had developed a fault and was in the process of being drained. For three days the gate was locked with no sign to say why. On enquiring with the caretaker, he was very rude, didn't speak English and provided no explanation. The Maiscal III does not have anyone on reception, so there is nobody to talk to in case of any problem. On the whole though it is an ok place to stay for a week, but don't expect anything special - and if I were you, I would take the stairs!
We had a fantastic week in Benidorm, and I would recommend the destination to anyone. However, watch out for blue rinse around Oct/Nov!

"Mariscal V"
Travel date:
July 2005
As three young girls, Mariscal V was perfect for us. Literally two minutes away from 'the square'. It could be loud on bar crawl nights but we were usually out in it and it was close enough to stroll (or crawl) home.
The apartments were clean and basic. Perfect for somewhere to get ready and sleep and as this was usually in the day, it was quiet!
I would recommend this place to young people looking for a lively holiday close enough to walk to everything so you don't have to fork out for taxis. Lets face it, alcohol is the only thing we want to be paying for, if we have to!
